Subtle thing, but around/after 1:00, the way she's using her feet while walking is so nifty --keeeping them in the air ever so slighly before she steps makes it look like she's treading the air. =D

Yes, but even so, Ziyi Zhang shouldn't be dissed. If you actually watch the beauty dance scene, there is only THREE shots where you cannot see her face (assuming because it was Wang Yabin dancing). Therefore, most of the dance WAS actually Ziyi Zhang.

It's unusual that the dances in the movie would not be done by Zhang Ziyi because she was a dance major since she was 8 years old. In addition, it's a disadvantage for movie makers to hire a dancer (Wang Yabin) when their actor Zhang Ziyi was a dancer. I can understand for movie makers to hire a stunt double so that their actors are not injured. I tried researching who did the dance numbers but can't find any...maybe I'll check the movie's ending credits.

@headachebaby achtually Zhang did the most of the closing movements in the movie, well, which were not the same as what we see right here on the video. However, Wang and also another male dancer did the technical and reverse parts. Together they three made the whole dance scene. In my oppinion, this piece was only a scenario, the original choreography. (hope my poor English could somehow explain your doubt. Unfortunally i don't think we can find any useful information from the endling list.)

@headachebaby BTW, i muss say, Zhang is really not so good at dancing, not only at Chinese classic dance but at folks dance as well. The second one is what she used to major in when she was in high school. Her teacher and even she herself recognised it. Thus she changed her way to Beijing Film Academy. On the other side, Wang is a master in chinese classic dance, really master. So i can imagine the director just wanted the movie could be made more beautiful.

I agree that Wang Yabin is an excellent dancer, and that she definitely deserves credit, but in Zhang Ziyi's defense, the actress was trained as a folk and classical dancer at Beijing Dance Academy before an agent recruited her after seeing her perform at a dance competition.

Yes she was trained there, an experience she rarely talks of because it was a failure. Her teacher said three weakness are fatal to her being a good dancer: legs aren't equally long; she lacks flexibility despite of training; and she doesn't have the coordination. For proof, you may search for her peacock dance on youtube. It was a lackluster performance. I do admire her, however, for knowing herself well and for being decisive. She chose an area in which she can excel at-commerical movies

She mentioned many times that she wasn't very successful in dancing school. But the definition of success in her words means to be top folk dancers in China. She will never become the very top fold dancer but she is still a good dancer. It's pretty much an honor to be able to study in that dance school.
