  • saw these bonny lads 5 times in 4 years 5 of the best gigs ive ever been to and ive seen some fucking big bands

  • Ha'way the Lads

  • ray runs an art shop near oxford and sells his paintings of buses

  • filmed them at bbc a few times and got drunck several timeswith them best was hexagon at reading away the lads

  • well then where are they hiding isn't it about time they had a get together ?

  • Three daft boogers got lost in the Fog on the Tyne and can't see the clear white light...excellent...thanks for uploading

  • This is excellent.

  • the clear lindisfarne light has guided us all

  • I saw them in Peterborough for the last time around 83/4. we walked into the bar before the show and there they were having a beer. we must have looked gone out, and ray jackson looks over and says 'alright lads?'. close to their audience or what?

alan hull, I think, was one of the most underrated singer-composer-writers this country ever produced.

  • I'm old now. I saw them City hall Christmas two tears 79 and 80. Fucked my head then. Fuck it now. Just fantastic. Can they tour again?

  • One of my favourite bands of the seventies. Totally original and unique!

  • @episkopi08 i would like also for Lindisfarne to tour but sadly most have passed away,so sad.

  • @cbracs ~ Most? One has passed away, one.

  • Absolute class..... we will never see their likes again.... makes you proud to be a Geordie!! HOWAY THE LADS!

  • Anyone remember Cardiff College of Food Technology about 1969. Lindisfarne, What a night. Alan Hull autographed the album Nicely out of Tune for me. I Quote him! ' May your pockets ever jingle with Newcastle Brown Tops' Bless you Alan and Lindisfarne

  • : )

  • This is one of the few times I can say in my life.

    "I WAS THERE !!!!"

  • Brilliant, but sadly a few short months later and Alan was gone...however i do have my memories of god knows how many gigs by band members and solo including Bob Dylan at St James's park, a great idol of mine supported by our home grown heroes, for me it was Lindisfarnes show as much as Bobs.

  • alan hull singing to his own people, i honestly cant think that any other band ever will ever generate anything close to the magic of the lindisfarne shows, it was a joy to be part of, rip alan

  • what a number, what a band. you cant get numbers like this today

  • Christmas isn't Christmas anymore without a Lindisfarne Crimbo concert. Alan Hull was a genius. Sadly missed.

  • It makes me proud to be a Geordie !!

  • Derby kings hall .72. What a gig, what a band. what memories. !

  • Proof positive great music played with confidence and talent is a magical thing - and timeless!

  • lindisfarne are legends.geordie speakin here like and i love their music.

  • Many thanks for this. I never got to see the lads at the city hall, but they did make the best band that toured scotland ever, Sorry Runrig,

  • @bordeauxjake Naturally I prefer Runrig but I remember seeing (and photographing Lindisfarne) at Edinburgh Playhouse. I was supremely-disappointed that they hadn't played Clear White Light. But they saved it to an encore when I was wondering what the funny boxes at the back of the stage were - photofloods, that near-blinded me when this sonfg started!

    Superb

  • My first ever concert was a Lindisfarne concert, when i was 7 or 8, at Portsmouth Guildhall. I didn't really appreciate it, i just went cos my dad loved them and i wanted to join in and see what all the fuss was about.

Listening to this now, and 'Fog on the Tyne' and also ' Lady Eleanor', i have to say, i should have appreciated it more! not that i'll ever admit it to my dad, but hey - it reminds me of my childhood!

  • First heard "Fog on the Tyne" in '72 on an "underground" station here in Chicago at about 2:00AM and never looked back. Brilliant is an understatement....

  • Saw them at Chelsea village Bournemouth 1978 Chris Rea support, few people turned up...didn't deter this band they were Brilliant ..best party I've ever been to..

  • I was there awsome

  • Just dragged out my Lindisfarne Songbook. Looking the worse for wear after 37 years and still stained where the cat pissed on it in 74. She's Long gone and so is Alan but the songs still shine. Time to murder them again. Salutations to all who are enjoying this great band.

  • My parents were at this concert and when it was played over the radio they taped it, unfortunately the tape is now chewed and gone, does anyone know where I can find more of this concert in video or audio?

  • Met 4 geordie lads here in London at a wedding a few weeks ago. What great lads with an amazing sense of humour and we talked about this band. Not many bands to match them.

  • simply the most entertaining band I ever saw

  • OMG - Couldn't even remember when I saw them do this at Eden Court Theatre lol Just remember they were amazing.

  • The Best!!!!!!

  • the first album I ever really got into. .fog on the Tyne. .

  • Thetrack of Lindisfarne. Even now when it plays it gets everyone up and singing along. Well done boys. Newcastle for one are extremely grateful and proud

  • One of the best videos on YouTube!

  • Christmas concerts at the City Hall were the highlight of the year. The place erupted every year as "meet me on the corner" kicked the concert off. Everybody knew the words and danced like mad buggers toevry song. Great memories.

  • tell me about it.. was fantastic

  • @durham1964

I was there. I'm nearly in tears listening to it. What memories!!

I met Alan Hull. he autographed an album for me writing " may your pockets ever jinngle with Newcastle Brown topps". God Bless!

    What happened to him?

  • He died of a heart attack in 1995. Great loss.

  • Thank you for telling me that,

    A great band

    My youth

Lady Eleanor, Clear White Light WOW

  • No problem :)

And couldn't agree more. Never saw them live (age stopped that lol) but great band, great catalogue of songs, not much more needed to say.

  • As a London boy I admit gladly that this was one of the best live bands ever seen. I have had the great pleasure of seeing them live twice in the 70's.I am still very sad that Alan Hull has gone but I still listen to the music almost daily. T.J. Essex

  • @finickity i do the same.im a proper geordie and these are legends.its nice to know that someone from the south actually likes some of our famous faces.theres more like alan shearer, alan robson for metro radio, bobby thompson as a comedian....

  • @finickity At prep school I was in the same class as Simon Cowe and Rod Clements. Three years later I went to another school where I was in the same class as Ray Laidlaw. Sting was a couple of years below us. Ray has remained a good friend for almost fifty years now and helped me during a difficult time ten years ago. They're a great bunch of lads. Glad you enjoy their music.

  • @gnomely1 You were extremely honoured my friend

  • the stones n beatles yer arse, this band was sheer total genius, every song a classic.lady elanor, run for home, fckn hell magic man.

  • Does anyone have archive footage from the early seventies of this song? Please please post if so.

  • I grew up with and shared many xmas concerts at Newcastle city hall with Lindisfarne

(just saying the name brings back fantastic memories), PURE MAGIC !

Nowt better than a bottle of brown(or 2) and Lindisfarne !

    Thanks lads :)

  • It's more than thirty years since I first heard this but it still moves me. god bless alan hull.

  • I always thought Lindisfarne played better in Sunderland...(:>)

  • what can you say about this band...just awesome seen them live over 12 times from 1072 to 1989

    good on you Alan Hull

  • From 1072...? You all survived our Vikings and then some, ay?lol (I'm Norwegian) Long live Lindisfarne!

  • 1072 geeze you makems sure tell some porkies.lol

  • who me?....didnt Malcolm McDonald score a hatrick on his debut for Sunderland..(:>)

Alan Hull is a true legend...get his back to basic solo album and on the other side cd

  • Fantastic!

Wish someone would find some more Lindisfarne - one of my favourite bands, and Alan Hull, what a writer, sorely missed.

Thanks to anyone for putting any Lindisfarne on YouTube!

Alans "Pipedream" LP is still one of my favourite records.

  • My favourite song of all time - Guy, Gateshead

  • Who invited the two jumped up arseholes to pass comment. They cannot hold a candle to the band they are "talking about" .

  • Alan Hull stayed at my house one night. A true gentleman and a TRUE genius. R.I.P.

  • This band used to make the city hall bounce to it's foundations - fantastic atmosphere every single time - everyone went home hoarse from singing every word at the top of their voices.

  • alan hull genius

  • Seemingly Elvis Costello rated Winter song as on of the best ever. No one will argue with your statement.

  • cheers maujon

  • magic, whoever was there got the gig of a lifetime, run for home is my fav, inspiring when im out for a gentle trot.

  • if my m8 decka could see this

  • Alan Hull was a true genius.

  • My God how could anyone argue. Nice one

  • I saw one of alans last solo gigs at the celler south shields and what an awesome night that was..a true genius...masterful and underated...

but some how keep it that way....special band..seen them many times from 1971 to 1985

  • can anyone tell me. on what date did the lead singer die i've got the year but not the actual day and month.

  • From lindisfarne . de web site - On 17th November 1995 the sudden death of James Alan Hull is announced

  • has anyone got run for home?

  • I was at this gig.

    RIP Alan

As for the Mags, I was 13 years old and I went to the front of the stage proudly wearing my SAFC shirt. I got a few good natured boo's but everyone was top class.

Alan Hull/North East - the greatest people in the world

  • what year were you born mate becuase my parents are 45 and 43 and when they first met my mam took (or dragged) my dad to see them at the city hall.

  • The best.

  • every one should know this band and if they say that the mags. are a rubbish team then let them all go to hell.
