I would love to know how to get the whole performance -- I teach this epic in my World Humanities class, and I would love to add this to the reading versions I use.
This is a most wonderful "telling" of the moment of Sundiata's getting up to walk. The dancer is phenomenal -- he has portrayed all the immense power that the story says is in the young Djata's body even when his legs don't work yet, with the upper-body moves, and the ferocious joy on the day when he finally gains his feet and begins to dance. I also love that he has carried it out to the audience -- as if to say, this is not on a stage, it is among you all to this day.
@lainikuumba E koh kay nay wah / How are you ? Thanks for the positive feedback. I am located in Vancouver, Canada. The artists are from Mali/Guinea/Senegal but live in NYC, DC Chicago, Montreal and Paris. K'an be here` ma - blessings, Rex Chequer
Ehhhh-- bari ali ning baraa--- jatabaa!!! Very inspirational. Great djembefolalu and wonderful acrobatics. Also a very nice way of illustrating Sundiata Keita's growth- as someone born a cripple to being a man of great power. Ali ning ke!!
Damn Amadou! Are your hands on crack @ 0:19! You are amazing! At certain points your hands were like the wings on a hummingbird! AMAZING PERFORMANCE BY EVERYONE ON STAGE!
I love it!!!
