Newer model Xbox 360s have foam padding above the disc to prevent it from tilting and touching the mechanics that scratch the disc. I don't have that model though. Still, people shouldn't til the console.

@Selsiuss2 That's a false rumor... one of my friends got the newest 4 GB Xbox "S" model, and he was playing MW2. His cat knocked it over, and the disc came out with those saturn ring scratches and couldn't read. We were pissed (well mostly him since I own a PS3 and since the games are on blu ray discs they don't scratch :))

@Selsiuss2 Exactly. Problem is, that would increase production costs by about 10 cents/unit. No really. Over 55 million systems, that would have cost them 5.5 million dollars. There is a business incentive to not even do stuff as simple as that. And as for red ring of death, the new systems instead get a red dot of death (the problem wan't fixed, they just changed the way that it appeared. saved money). It's dishonest, but would you be willing to lose 5.5 million for something no one would care?

@hypernova1024 I had the RROD before and I tried every method to fix it besides the towel method. I finally sent it in for repairs and it hasn't messed up since. But I did lose my Soul Calibur 4 disc to this scratching, though the console was only barely tilted. It seems like you have to treat your console like a baby made out of glass; the slightest error will F it up.

@Selsiuss2 One method is the error code swap method, where you plug in the RROD 360 so it changes error codes to two lights, and then let it cool back to down to "forget" that it was red ringed in the first place... works like half the time, but if it doesn't, M$ won't repair it for you for trying that (voids their already pathetic warranties).

Yeah, you should have the common sense NOT to move ANY type of machine that for example plays games while it is doing JUST THAT. If you damaged your disc this way, its your own fault. Regardless, though, this doesn't happen with my PS3. So I win either way.

I have 2 games that no longer work. I have never moved the xbox when disk was inside, but somehow after a mere few months of playing them, a small circular scratch near the inside (unlike yours, on the outside) made the game inoperable. Pauses or errors at the same spots always. For halo 3, the disk no longer is recognized. For gears if war, about 30 seconds into a game, it crashes.

what you do to fix it for like 5 bux is you get silicon pads and place them in the dvd drive. this prevents the disc from moving around inside, but still spins at its normal speed
