Phil Spector (now in jail for murder) wrote a song (after seeing an epitaph on a tombstone) called To Know Him Is To Love Him. He formed a group called The Teddy Bears (after Elvis' hit) and recorded the song with Marshall Leibman, himself and Annette Kleinbard (later Annette Bard) resulting in a hit record! Years later; Annette changed her name to Carol Connors and made a few more 45s. She also testified at the O.J. trial. Phil's Annette label was named after her. Joe S.
@avatarspade "To know her is to love her" - That's the way The Beatles did it - the original song is "To know him is to love him" by The Teddy Bears - written and produced by Phil Spector in 1958.
i do feel bad for the way john treated her, i mean in one of his last compositions 'real love' he says about cyn "thought i'd been in love before, but in my heart i wanted more"
How the fuck did he expect fame for killing this man? smh.. It's insane anyone who tries to stand for peace and equality has to die for it, people before and after him
@gabyyy24 and 20-40 years from now people will be saying the same. Me personally i want the 90's back BUT we should try to enjoy our generation for what it is. If you think about it the similarites of this time and the 60's are more then you think.
I am kind of uncomfortable with the word 'genius' that seems to be banded about so frequently when people talk of somebody doing something that is considered to be outstanding. I believe John Lennon was touched by musical genius, but not in the same way as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was. However, amid howls of derision I will concede that Lennon was indeed an ordinary man that was capable of extremely extraordinary things. I adore his music.
@TheDiddlysquat Having a somewhat poor memory regarding song lyrics and being a "below average" student in school really have little to do with intelligence. Albert Einstein had problems in school and yet his last name is synonymous with "genius". Anyone can memorize words and equations taught in school but it takes real intelligence to think of new ideas.
Cheers n that. People like John Lennon intrigue me - you know. People who are iconic e.g. Woody Allen, Michael Jackson, etc. This documentary is good.
The guy narrating this is Bernard Hill, a great actor who was the captain in 'Titanic' and was in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy .. He was from Liverpool which is why he's narrating this ..
Interesting film footage, but I didn't see Paul, George or Ringo talking about John anywhere...Only the "trouble" Pete Best!(this was John's word about Pete in his article in Merseybeat in 1962!!!)
You mean, John was the real trouble?..I hope not! I hope you're not one of them, who say that he was "anti-Christian",because he said that Beatles are more popular than Jesus..He was just speaking about some lazy priests, who don't really care about young people..As an artist, he was honest-and,as a man,had already felt a lot of pain..
Anway, John was a rebellious man. He partciulary against Christianity. Besides the comment, you should look the interviews in 1975-1980. He got piss off when Dylan (his hero) got saved.
Bob Dylan is another thing-too complicated... Anyway, let me answer using John's thoughts about Christ-and "bad" Christians: "Christians... are so busy condemning themselves and others, or preaching at people, or worse, still killing for Christ. None of them understanding, or trying in the least, to behave like a Christ..." (Skywriting By Word Of Mouth). I'm an Orthodox Christian, and I find no difference between Christianity and John's words...
Seems reard to me you haven't even heard of orthodoxy... Anyway, it's synonymous with true love and spiritual freedom... If you ever visit a Greek island, or a Greek village, you'll see what I mean... If you know Greece at all, of course!!
thank you for the reply. I am all in favor of true love and spiritual freedom. I have traveled in the past 20 years and have not made it to greece yet.
oh, she was just shocked by John hitting her pal, that's all(then she ....Quite rightly called him cruel for doing it)John was very flippent in his emotions, he had a lot of growing up to do and who was going to be his father figure?..... he only had rock'n'roll!
She said that she and Cynthia had been to a village club and were brought back home in a car by two blokes, all very innocent. Cynthia told John about it the next day and when she went to the cloakroom, she found Cynthia crying - John had slapped Cynthia (I think he didn't like Cynthia being taken home by the 2 blokes).
haha that be kewl if Ringo did narrate that, and it does sound a tad bit like him (lol) I feel real bad about his mother, and bad for the guy who thought it was his fault. It wasn't everything happens for a reason right? And anyway Johns with his mother now :)
The Beatles were a grand group of fellows, and John Lennon really wrote fantastic songs. I had no idea he ever went to a proper school, but he was a rebel. I mean a REBEL!!! Just listen to that song "In My Life". That's a song and a half. Wowsers!!!
