Well, that's probably not a bad thing to be PO'd about; after all, they were great old cars, and they could have been restored. At the end of the day though, if they guy I worked for didn't destroy them, it would only have been a matter of time. It's a shame no less for that. I remember the old cars from the 50s, which were still somewhat common when I was a kid in the 70s. I miss them, but they're almost scarcer than hen's teeth today. All crushed and recycled into new cars.
Of course, after all that, it must seem hypocritical to you that I would make a video showing people having fun smashing old cars that plainly were in good condition, at least from the standpoint of restoration potential. Just curious, but have you ever watched a demolition derby? When I was a kid, they were fairly popular. They don't seem to be that popular now where I live. But I saw lots of great old cars get smashed up in them, and I'd be a liar if I said that I didn't wish that I could have been in a few of them too. I'd be surprised if at least part of you isn't also at least a little be enticed by the idea of smashing up a big old car (even a wee bit?).

They were smashed because they were to have been removed from the boss's property over six months before, and the owner had done nothing to remove them. But I think that more than just removing them, the boss was making a statement to the owner (just my theory on the last part there).

I didn't to come off that harsh. What gets under my skin is when old classics such these or older are smashed. They are a part of our Nations History. And a very fun, friendly, happy one to live through too. These cars were built back when America HAD (PAST TENSE) HAD pride in what it did and what it built. I wish I could have lived through those days, I love seeing old cars such these being fixed up and running down the road again. In a way, it brings part of that great past to the present.
Those old times were just overall, better. As far as being just metal, I'll ask this: "Why value the statue of liberty?, they should scrap that too, bring in the wrecking ball, knock it down and crush it." Whouldn't go over well now would it?
If even though they may be gone many many many years from now, why not treasure then NOW, at least we have something, the generations following don't, so treasure them and our great now as we can do that.
Well, this much I can tell you (though talk is cheap) - IF I had some acreage of my own, those cars would have been moved to it, and not smashed (well, most of them).
The funny thing is (not 'ha ha') that as I drive around town, I see many trucks carrying so many big, old, crushed cars to the scrap barges, so they can go to China to be turned into Walmart products. Seems that the 'industry' can't get rid of them fast enough.
There's a part of me that's very sorry to see that happen.
Next time ship the real cars over to wisconsin so I can restore them and smash a civic., prius, camry, accord, cr-v, eclipse, or any other plastic crap! (the real reason heavy equipment was invented)

Some people are idiots. They get so worked up over a car (like sexually frustrated teenage girls and the Twilight Movie! lol) Even if you smashed a '67 Mustang Convertible (my favorite and dream car) I would be like "cool" I only like them when they're all shiny and looking new! If you were to smash a nice new looking one I'd just be like "Aw man!"
I would love to but I don't have a big Hitachi or CAT excavator or a bunch of old cars.

They were smashed because they were to have been removed from the boss's property over six months before, and the owner had done nothing to remove them. But I think that more than just removing them, the boss was making a statement to the owner (just my theory on the last part there).

It's like this: The cars would have been crushed whether I was there or not. No one forced me to be there. And frankly, I enjoyed watching them get smashed. But this does not mean that I would have smashed them if I was in a position to make the decision about what was to be done with them.
I don't expect you to understand, Max. Not everyone can understand something like this. Everyone sees the world through different eyes. Although it is a waste, it is not a sin, per se, in my opinion.

Where EXACTLY, and BY WHAT MEASURING ROD, do you determine just what is so 'damnable' about crunching up some old cars?
One will say, 'It's okay, as long at they're Japanese cars! But don't smash the American cars.'
Another will say, "You can smash the newer cars, but don't you DARE smash the older ones."

And he'll mean it when he says it. I know guys who are adamant that if it's not a GMC product, then it's junk. And they AREN'T joking when they say it. Others are just as staunchly the opposite.
I've heard some folks who are very much the same way with trucks.

Anyway, I think y'all can see where I'm going with this, so I'll leave off here. But I like to get people to look at why they think something is important, and try to get a bigger perspective on it. I think we usually take ourselves too seriously when it comes to material things.

I didn't to come off that harsh. What gets under my skin is when old classics such these or older are smashed. They are a part of our Nations History. And a very fun, friendly, happy one to live through too. These cars were built back when America HAD (PAST TENSE) HAD pride in what it did and what it built. I wish I could have lived through those days, I love seeing old cars such these being fixed up and running down the road again. In a way, it brings part of that great past to the present.

Those old times were just overall, better. As far as being just metal, I'll ask this: "Why value the statue of liberty?, they should scrap that too, bring in the wrecking ball, knock it down and crush it." Whouldn't go over well now would it?
If even though they may be gone many many many years from now, why not treasure then NOW, at least we have something, the generations following don't, so treasure them and our great now as we can do that.

Well, this much I can tell you (though talk is cheap) - IF I had some acreage of my own, those cars would have been moved to it, and not smashed (well, most of them).
The funny thing is (not 'ha ha') that as I drive around town, I see many trucks carrying so many big, old, crushed cars to the scrap barges, so they can go to China to be turned into Walmart products. Seems that the 'industry' can't get rid of them fast enough.
There's a part of me that's very sorry to see that happen.
