Damn I saw Beat Street at the show when it first came out but I don't remember this trailer. It has a lot of scenes that weren't in the movie, thatz fresh.
God nothing has changed.. among the lower class audiences we keep seeing these movies that literally only exist to say "hey look, a subculture!" going back as far as Beach Blanket Bingo and extending all the way to YOU GOT SERVED and beyond..
@KairuHakubi what are you talking about? You must only want to rant. "Beach Blanket Bingo" was never made for a lower class audience it start american sweethearts Annette Funicello & Frankie Avalon so get your facts straight. And the only thing that these movies had in common was its exploration of a burgeoning underground scene. Beat Street was actually one of the best of its kind because it did include a plut. But unfortunately had weak performances
@KairuHakubi lower class is something you think of people, and not what people think of themselves!
but of course you would think that everybody is supposed to dance to the same tune of the mainsteam media that did'nt allow any other demographic to exist! So we had to get our own!
and why you so upset for! the white man is the one reaping all of the benefits from hip-hop anyways!
@ILustForMystery Early '90s? There was lots of good hip hop in the early 90s, some would say that was the golden era even though by that time it was more commercialized. It was a different sound from the '80s. More layered with samples, more sophisticated rhyming style. Even the gangsta rap was better produced than nowadays.
@ILustForMystery HEY! A year of the Dragon child...like me...(64)...yeah those were great times...nothin like the corporate, manufactured, processed and packaged BS that passes for hip-hop today. You may not have been there in the Golden Era but you have the heart of someone that was. I miss those battles at the Roxy..the Latin Quarters..the Rooftop in the Bronx and the Funhouse...(now where'd I put that Time Machine...?)
It pretty looks like authentic underground culture, but in my point of view it's in some form "culture creation from the top". "B-Boy" is occult lingo for bee-boy (the beehive in ancient egypt was the symbol for the ideal society, drones serving the elite/the queen). Is it possible that "they" (Tavistock Institute, London?) invented or pushed this stuff? What about masonic names like "Grand Master" Flash...?
Wow, I would have never come up with that. The truth is a little more simplified.
B-boy simply stands for "beat-boy" In the late 70s' thru 80's guys who played records at parties learned to take two record players and spin certain sections of the records back 2 back. (mixing), usually at the most entertaining beat of the song. Dancers would catch this "beat" and perform their best moves to it.
Beat street was released only a month later.A very quick answer if you ask me.I loved the breakdancing and hip hop culture in this movie. I was disappointed by the graffiti artwork. They could have use real artist like in wildstyle.
half that shit was not in the movie i seen beat street i ant see them brakeing in class i wish they would release that version of the movie with the stuff we ant see
Fuck yeah. I remember this shit from when I was three years old then a year later my mom took me to New York City and we rode on the subway and I was like whoa this shit is for real.
best b boy film ever made, hip hop has brought more kids together from different backgrounds than any otther movement. these kids showed the rest of the world to have fun.
making something out of nothing and reaching todays level of a worldwide art.
long live the b boys and b girls of the world.
black white, whatever it dont matter stand up for our right
The trailer is a bit misleading but there are much more better parts in the fim that were not it the trailer :) shame hip hop is were it is now,80s ruled in every thing it was like a rebirth of colour and life and nothing has touched it since apart from the acid house early 90s rave scene but 80s changed the way we live today and forever:)
Wow amazing post man, the last time I saw this trailer was when I was like 8 and I begged my grandmoms " PLEASE take me to see Beatstreet!!!"
Such good memories, that whole hip hop culture movement was so crazy from that time and I must have saw this movie at least 50 times once we got a VCR a few years later...
i've watched this movie a thousand times and a whole lot of things in the trailer are not in the movie. can someone tell me if there is an edited version available.
movies back then and now were, and are on a budget and under many time constraints so alot of good shit gets cut out in order to fufill these obligations....at the time this was made Im guessing that this was the case and they certainly were'nt thinking about DVD extras,lol........sux i know but it is what it is
Maybe because it is a Hollywood backed movie and it was trying to capitalize on a potential cultural trend, for no better expression, so it may have been strictly bottom line: get the movie done and nothing else outside of the contract, does that make sense? In essence, anything that was cut from the movie, tragically, if not saved was/is destroyed.
This movie was released by Orion, which has since gone bankrupt. My guess is that since it wasn't a huge success, it hasn't been deemed worthy of the deluxe DVD treatment.
You could be right about that , Wookie72. Still, I can't help but think that anybody on set could have tried to document this, nobody could be so dense not to see that it ought to have been.
I'm not saying the footage isn't out there - it's very rare for something like that to be completely destroyed. However, it's probably not in the best condition. What it would take is a major fan effort to revive it.
oh this is the shit! Kool Moe Dee, another 80's hop hop rapper legend who came up with the theme song, love that song too. what sucks so much is that 80% of the scenes that appear in the trailer ARE NOT in the movie, which sucks so much and makes me real upset. thats why the movie is short.
With all these new dance movies for the kids nowadays that annoy me, we have to remember that for those of us born '75 to '80, these were OURS! Miss this.
If a movie was about nowdays hiphop, it would be called Bitch Street.
