I just love this song!! Unfortunately I have never been in Ireland, but I feel as if I've been there my whole life when listening to this song. All my prayers to the Irish people and for peace so that the children in Belfast can have a normal life and sing again. Thank you for this song
This is my favorite song by Simple Minds and in high rotation on my iPod. I'm always stirred up by its powerful earnestness. It makes me want book the next flight to Ireland. Thanks for posting it in HD!
The beauty of the Irish or Scotish artist's, especially the likes of Simple Minds, is the heartfelt honesty with which they express themselves. No need for overly political correctness. No need for steryotipical paraphrasing, or demeaning sentiments, just music and lyric's of passion and truth that can deeply touch the spirit and soul of even the most disimpassioned human being.
tja, kann man nix dazu sagen..simpel minds eben.einer meiner lieblingsbands in der früheren pop zene...einfach genial......dieser band trauer ich schon hinterher.. Don´´t youuuuu........miss youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu......... ( wein ).......
I felt compelled to play this video even though I never heard this song till now. I just wanted to hear Simple Minds and I was blown away. Wonderful song and lyrics. I am not Irish but my mom is an exile from her homeland where there is a lot of separation along ideological lines. I can relate to the feelings of longing, sadness, as if something left you, etc.
1:02 to 1:06,,,Paradise on YT,,,A Classic tune best played loud in a Subaru WRX STI,Westbound on Highway 1,leaving Kamloops BC around 2 AM in heavy rain....
Having left NI in 1987 at 20 yrs old after having seen some of the worst violence etc this song is particularly special to me and it does make me think about returning. It is a very special place with the friendliest most genuine people on the planet (outside of the few trouble makers)
I think of it as an amazing tribute to the lives lost in two worlds apart...two worlds that remain prisoners of their own ideas/beliefs, without realizing that with true freedom, there is no need to fight for a belief. This song is an eloquent way to rejoyce in the innocence still left in the children of the Emerald's Isle. Thank you Simple Minds.
A beautiful song to ease, the hurt and longing for a change, one day.Superbly charged with emotion and lyric.I think of the children's innocent hearts and eyes, forever changing.Thank you for this.
Epic. Just epic. It should really be sung by an old man,but Jim Kerrs vocals makes for a world of difference, It is a song for all whos familys blood has ever been lost in conflict.
absolutly!!! sorry my bad english but i"m comming from germany and my scool- times is a long time ago. i love the scottish and irish music too and i love to see the reel-dance it"s for me a wonder what they can do with his legs and i love the great rhythem
thanks for uploading-producing this fantastic song! in my youth this song was one of my first longplayers (on vinyl:) and i sometimes listen to it since today - pure energy!
from what I've heard Jim Kerr the lead singer of Simple Minds had Irish roots. I often used to wonder what inspired a Scottish singer and band to sing a song about Belfast and the troubles but apparently there are many links between Scotland and Ireland and some Irish Immigrants settled in Scotland during the famine and at other times of great struggle.
I listened to this song all summer long in '89...so many world events happened that year, Probably one the most important years in modern history. Looking back, I see how we're now experiencing the effects of '89 in a very significant way. For me, this song has personal significance. You made the quality of the sound SO beautiful. Thank you, Palladium...pichky

When I first heard this song so many years ago it gave me the shudders - meaning I loved it. It has a haunting, ethereal and spiritual quality to it - melancholic and joyful at the same time. It gives me an inner ache for something intangible but felt - an ache for that inner memory of Peace and Joy now forgotten . I am not Irish, but this song made me come as close as I can get to feeling Irish. The inner mood this music provoked goes beyond all boundaries - wonderful music.
@wolf7379 Thanks for your comments and I feel the same I love this song so much and gave it a special showing.and the fact its done in black n white makes it more so.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments.
@PalladiumTV Thanks to you Sean for putting this video up because it was such a long time that I heard it, and it brought back sweet memories. A wonderful video too for the Irish. Thanks.
@matabasofes Oops! Yes I later discovered that! My mistake. Sorry about that. LOL. The music is on Ireland but the band themselves is from Scotland. Anyway...thanks for putting me straight on and for those who might be passing by here. Okay then, part of me wants to be Scottish and the other half wants to be Irish! LOL. Anyway thanks for informing me and all the best to you.
@roughboy71 Thanks for your comment. I agree. I tend to find that Irish and Scottish music have a spiritual component that is haunting at times. All the best.
thank you simple minds for making this "belfast child" hopelessly homesick again. i love you guys no end. 30 years and still going stronger than ever.
Most of this video is showing run down areas filmed in east belfast.......just shows hardship on both sides ....... maybe we are all closer than what we think.
look how they used to be able to create harmony between Synthesizer Flute Violin Acoustic Guitar Electric Guitar Bass Voice Drums Tambourine Samples don't make them anymore :/
Fabulous song! You dont`t have to be Irish or Scottish to feel this rhythm pulsing in the veins of your flesh or to feel the songs`s warmth deep into your bones! I love it!
A soldier for Jesus?? Yea, thats really what he wanted when he died at the cross. That is why I do NOT believe, because everyone else who claimes to believe, misunderstands the whole meaning of faith.
