Kevin Pietersen's departure had nothing to do with the racial quota system. He simply wasnt good enough to make the provincial side and one of the Amla brothers got picked ahead of him. He wasnt even a batsman in the natal b team

In terms of legal nationality, they're British, not English. There is no 'English' nationality, only a cultural identity.

Doesn't matter what people sound like. If he was dumb (in the UK English sense, not the USA English sense) he could still choose his nationality. Since his mother is British, he is entitled to British nationality via that link.

Pietersen is bitter because when he was playing in south africa he was left out of his provincial team because of the racial quota. His mum's english so he jetted off to england to get his cahnce to play international level. He's slated south african cricket since.

Accents are irrelevant. His mother was British. His family is British. You can have an Indian accent, an American accent, a Scottish accent, a Russian accent, and have citizenship of the United Kingdom.

While I have nothing against KP's ability to play--I am actually a big fan of him as a cricketer--I just find the whole "I am 100% English" to be absolutely bollucks. If your accent is still south african and you're trying desperately to remove that, you're not fucking English. Absolutely pathetic interview.

@Gautamiyer2 Thats rought to say without experiencing it yourself. I'm 100% Sri Lankan by blood. I live in NZ now and play cricket here. I consider myself 100% Kiwi and people do have a problem with that. I dream of playing cricket for NZ. I have never wanted to play for Sri Lanka. I have defined my character the way I want to define myself. And thats Kiwi. What you are and what you were are 2 different things. Who cares about his accent and his past. The point is, he believes he is English now.

@aruncharles1 In Pietersen's case, it's not even a matter of heritage. He only went to play in England because he wasn't selected for South Africa. And it's not as if he spent most of his years in England either. He still has an accent and has a lot of family in SA. To consider yourself 100% of anything is absolutely ridiculous. Sorry to say, but even in YOUR case. You cannot be 100% of anything; especially if you've spent more than half your life in another country with another culture.

There's no legal nationality of 'English' anyway. It's 'British' and the State that you are a citizen of is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It's impossible to be 'English' except in a cultural sense, not a nationality sense. England is not a sovereign country, issues no passports, etc.
