  • i have a eee pc 701SD 8GB with custom installed Windows XP Lite

i want to upgrade the RAM to Kingston 2GB DDR3 1066MHz because its on sale for $34 dollars.. but does anyone know if the 701SD 8GB support DDR3? and 1066MHz?

i know it'll support 2GB DDR2 667 MHz, but the 2GB DDR3 1066MHZ is on SALE! so im thinking of getting that one... someone pls reply!

  • This is not 701 model. It's another model of Asus Eee PC.

The 701 model has different back case.

  • @miketheonero Lol :)

  • @miketheonero They made these in White and Black. I have both in my office.

  • anybody knows how to upgrade the exact same laptop from windows xp home edition to a windows home premium? maybe or something a little more better? because its so shit a slow working right now

  • Hi, I have a black eeepc 701, with webcam. 4g (this will be the hard disk space I think), and 512mb (i think that is the ram). Can I further upgrade anything, such as the ram?

  • so did he upgrade ram? like it originally has 512 or w/e so he upgraded that right?

  • why i can't put a 2gb ram memory on my pc :( i have amd ath 64 x2 dual core 4400+ and motherboard support exactly 800MHZ like the 2gb memory fraquency is ... :| my pc doesn't start after i put it :|:( please help

  • is this Asus 701 08GBLX? but, actually asus 701 the main memory cannot be upgraded to 40GB/60GB/80GB/160GB .. right?

  • hey it's only one slot? or can i putt 2 cards?

  • PM45?

Thats a shitty chipset. Your computer sucks.

  • jealous. lol..no hard feelings.

  • Don't be jealous, live and learn.

  • and its the size of an eee pc?

    impressive.

  • dear chap, Size does matter, contrary to what your girlfriend tells you..

  • you must get so much pussy with your alienware man.

  • i do actually, they just turn to jelly when they see my processor purring. haha

  • And weights like a ton and costs like 10 EEE 701 pcs ... Not even comparable...

  • your alienware sucks

  • Why not just get an X-Box for less?

  • i used to, but gave it away for free.! when you've played pc games you know the difference between real gaming and snes like graphics. No comparison!!!

  • No, I said X-Box, not the SNES.

  • i told you i don't have SNES.

  • I told you I said X-box. Should I step outside and come back in? Maybe we should start this over. lol

  • i don't have ps3 lol

  • Why are you telling me this? Can't we just stick to comparing our GameBoys like we used to do, back when we were both innocent?

  • noob question: will the ram upgrate work with eee-ubuntu 8.0.4.1?

  • Yes... but only a max of 3.2GB (32 bit system)

  • you cant upgrade your hard drive people!! just buy an SD card, bout £30 for 16gb!!

  • can you replace the harddrive too? (there must be "larger" solit state hd's available)

  • you can't replace it because 1st it is a solid state disk and 2nd it's soldered to the mainboard of the EeePC.

  • mine 4G model came with 512k... if I upgrade to 1gb will Xandros Linux run any faster???

  • Wow so easy, thanks. :)

  • over 1 gb and you have to recompile the OS

  • the xandros handles 2gb then you need to recompile

  • will the upgrade be similar on the 900?

  • the one i got is 512mb. does it work if you change it to higher like 1gb, how much can u upgrade it. how about the hardrive?

  • So you have to remove the 512MB chip and replace it with a larger one? (rather than augment it)

  • so, THIS QUESTION IS FOR ACTUAL EEE PC OWNERS ONLY!!

would you recommend this to others[assume we know that it cant replace your actual computer]?

what programs you guys currently have on your machine? running linux or xp?

  • Hey i got the same screw driver set lol, comes with 6 in a yellow box and the lid flips back around the body :P.

  • could you please tell me, the memory's specification. because i am from argentina and i want to know if it is possible to buy that kind of memory module, for my future eee pc. thanks!!!

  • You can put one module of 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz.

  • would a 4gb sodimm module get on this baby?

  • 4GB RAM on an eeePC?! What are you planning to use the laptop for?

  • what type of battery does it use 2 b tht light??

  • Damnit, it's a SiS branded module?!?!

    Weird...

Anyone knows if EEE PC 900 have one or two slots for up to 2 GB of ram, at least?

  • love the video. short and to the point. i embedded it on my blog to show how easy it is to upgrade from 512mb of ram to 1gb.

  • n00b question: I have an EEE with WINDOWS XP (works great), can I do this or XP won't recognize it?

  • Drak, it will recognize it.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you guys! :D

  • What's the other slot that we can see in the vid?

  • its an empty slot. but allows for future modding or hacking the pci on the board giving space to mount a bluetoth device or something like a 3g card setup. there is a hack showing a 3g card being installed there.

  • no that is taken up by the wifi card

  • no he meant the empty space u see when the cover is removed. , THERE is nothing currently there on a OEM eee pc it is space that can allow you room for modding like i described above. the WIFI card is actually ocupying the pci slot under the panel that you cannot see.

  • oh got that confused

  • im gona hack this shit

  • OMG! Is that it? Or do you have to tinker in the BIOS to install it? If that's all you do, and the computer works fine after that, then this is what I am gonna do!

  • Oh, and what RAM Module did you use, and where can I get it in the UK???

  • DDR2-667, max is 2gig, = ALOT with linux

  • it cant have like 4 gig or ram?

Does it only have one ram slot?

  • What exactly are you expecting from a ~8-9 inch laptop??

  • Yeah hehe

    guess to much huh? :P

  • Or wait... now I get it. The 4 gb model - ram installation. Disregard my comment.

  • ok :P

  • I'm askin for 2 slots because I guess that EEE mayu have dual channel...

Am I expecting so much for E³? :P

  • I have the 2G Surf model which had no panel, I've removed the 6 screws of the base but the back doesn't come off. Does anyone know how to take the base off this model please?

  • The RAM is soldered onto the EEE PC 2G model and is irreplaceable. Sorry.

  • It's true, plastered all over the net in fact. Google is your friend.

  • Comment removed

  • are you installing its RAM there? and if you are can you tell me what the chip is please.

    thanks

  • does anyone know why my eeepc won't recognize the 1gb 200 pin dimm i've tried installing? yes, it is the right kind of chip. all that happens when i power on is the indicator lights g on, then...nothing. no activity at all. thx

  • same problem here! any help would be much appreciated

  • moron the new linux kernel supports upto 4 GIG of ram on 32 bit processors ... idiot.

  • no wonder people think "smart" people are pricks.

  • Linux has supported 4 GB on 32 bit for a long time. It's just that on this particular computer with this particular version of OS, it can't see more than 1 GB. But you can easily install a variation of Ubuntu or Fedora Linux and it'll see the 2 GB no problem.

  • Does anybody know if it is possible to put a 2.5" laptop Hard Drive in this?

    Thanks

  • impossible, you can only add an external usb HD

  • thanks

  • does it support 2 gb of RAM?

  • yes it does 2GB of DDR2 Ram at 667 Mhz

  • Seriously!!! Wow

  • yeah I went to a German Website, to buy my EEE PC, it's already coming :P , and I had 3 options, 512, 1GB and 2GB all DDR2 667Mhz .

  • what german site?

  • Hi, where did you buy your eee from? I'm living in germany and want/need an eee, but have no idea where to get it from in germany. What site did you use? thanks

  • I don't think the xandros kernel can support the 2gb.

  • it's an x86 linux kernel. How could it not support 2gb? The standard is 4 for the most part? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • The eee xandros kernel cannot support 2gb; It's set to 1gb by Asus themselves, but eFfeM, a member of eeeuser, recompiled an experimental kernel that Does support 2gb.

  • im not going to bother upgrading the ram, 512mb is enough for what i intend to do with it, however i will be buying a 32gb sdhc card to act as a hard drive upgrade.

  • 32GB?! Why not get a tiny external hard drive for five times less cost?

  • I guess because it fits right into the Cardreader, which saves space, which would be needed for the HDD and the USB Cable and the battery doesn't get drained (is this the right word?) from the external Harddrive motor.

  • I guess that sort of makes sense. But why not buy a 32GB SSD instead?

  • what type of hard drive connector does the solid state drive use? i was wondering if i could swap it with a high capacity disk drive if i bought this system.

  • wow that easy...

  • piece of cake pal!

  • ya how bout explaining some of that might be helpful instead of watching a some dudes hand molest the memory module.

  • This is why I'm pissed the 256mb ram "surf" model has a smaller battery. Otherwise I'd just buy the 256mb ram version and pop in a 1024mb module.

  • yeah. i would load xp onto it and upgrade the memory to 1 gig. it will have the power to handle xp like my desktop would (although iot has a brand new gpu...) I wonder how much the battery costs? (by a high capcity battery in near future)

  • the 256 model has the ram solderd on to the board so it is not replacable

  • Any way to upgrade the onboard internal SSD memory?

  • I guess the earliest models had a minpci slot with the memory on it, newer models for sure have the internal SSD soldered to the main board, so bad luck with that.

  • Zap! He doesn't use any anti-static protection.

  • LOL I was thinking the same thing!

  • so-dimm ddr2-3200 400MHz 200 pin 1GB max :)

  • is it an so-dimm? DDR2 ?

  • Does the EEE PC ship with an empty ram module or do you have to lose the original ram in order to upgrade?

  • you have to lose theoriginal or sell it on ebay

  • How easy to access to the memory module !

  • you take off the back panel which is 2 screws
