i have a eee pc 701SD 8GB with custom installed Windows XP Lite
i want to upgrade the RAM to Kingston 2GB DDR3 1066MHz because its on sale for $34 dollars.. but does anyone know if the 701SD 8GB support DDR3? and 1066MHz?
i know it'll support 2GB DDR2 667 MHz, but the 2GB DDR3 1066MHZ is on SALE! so im thinking of getting that one... someone pls reply!
anybody knows how to upgrade the exact same laptop from windows xp home edition to a windows home premium? maybe or something a little more better? because its so shit a slow working right now
Hi, I have a black eeepc 701, with webcam. 4g (this will be the hard disk space I think), and 512mb (i think that is the ram). Can I further upgrade anything, such as the ram?
why i can't put a 2gb ram memory on my pc :( i have amd ath 64 x2 dual core 4400+ and motherboard support exactly 800MHZ like the 2gb memory fraquency is ... :| my pc doesn't start after i put it :|:( please help
i used to, but gave it away for free.! when you've played pc games you know the difference between real gaming and snes like graphics. No comparison!!!
could you please tell me, the memory's specification. because i am from argentina and i want to know if it is possible to buy that kind of memory module, for my future eee pc. thanks!!!
its an empty slot. but allows for future modding or hacking the pci on the board giving space to mount a bluetoth device or something like a 3g card setup. there is a hack showing a 3g card being installed there.
no he meant the empty space u see when the cover is removed. , THERE is nothing currently there on a OEM eee pc it is space that can allow you room for modding like i described above. the WIFI card is actually ocupying the pci slot under the panel that you cannot see.
OMG! Is that it? Or do you have to tinker in the BIOS to install it? If that's all you do, and the computer works fine after that, then this is what I am gonna do!
I have the 2G Surf model which had no panel, I've removed the 6 screws of the base but the back doesn't come off. Does anyone know how to take the base off this model please?
does anyone know why my eeepc won't recognize the 1gb 200 pin dimm i've tried installing? yes, it is the right kind of chip. all that happens when i power on is the indicator lights g on, then...nothing. no activity at all. thx
Linux has supported 4 GB on 32 bit for a long time. It's just that on this particular computer with this particular version of OS, it can't see more than 1 GB. But you can easily install a variation of Ubuntu or Fedora Linux and it'll see the 2 GB no problem.
Hi, where did you buy your eee from? I'm living in germany and want/need an eee, but have no idea where to get it from in germany. What site did you use? thanks
The eee xandros kernel cannot support 2gb; It's set to 1gb by Asus themselves, but eFfeM, a member of eeeuser, recompiled an experimental kernel that Does support 2gb.
im not going to bother upgrading the ram, 512mb is enough for what i intend to do with it, however i will be buying a 32gb sdhc card to act as a hard drive upgrade.
I guess because it fits right into the Cardreader, which saves space, which would be needed for the HDD and the USB Cable and the battery doesn't get drained (is this the right word?) from the external Harddrive motor.
what type of hard drive connector does the solid state drive use? i was wondering if i could swap it with a high capacity disk drive if i bought this system.
yeah. i would load xp onto it and upgrade the memory to 1 gig. it will have the power to handle xp like my desktop would (although iot has a brand new gpu...) I wonder how much the battery costs? (by a high capcity battery in near future)
I guess the earliest models had a minpci slot with the memory on it, newer models for sure have the internal SSD soldered to the main board, so bad luck with that.

# Intel® PM45 + ICH9M-E Chipset
# Up to 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
# 2 dedicated SO-DIMM slots for Dual Channel DDR3 Memory

you cant upgrade your hard drive people!! just buy an SD card, bout £30 for 16gb!!

can you replace the harddrive too? (there must be "larger" solit state hd's available)
d4m4s74 3 years ago
you can't replace it because 1st it is a solid state disk and 2nd it's soldered to the mainboard of the EeePC.

mine 4G model came with 512k... if I upgrade to 1gb will Xandros Linux run any faster???

it will not make any difference, upgrading the ram is only useful if you install windows on it.
markii63 3 years ago
Wow so easy, thanks. :)
GTASMatbugs 3 years ago
over 1 gb and you have to recompile the OS
frontier1701 3 years ago
the xandros handles 2gb then you need to recompile

will the upgrade be similar on the 900?

the one i got is 512mb. does it work if you change it to higher like 1gb, how much can u upgrade it. how about the hardrive?
alirezaavazzadeh 3 years ago
So you have to remove the 512MB chip and replace it with a larger one? (rather than augment it)
adric22 3 years ago
so, THIS QUESTION IS FOR ACTUAL EEE PC OWNERS ONLY!!
would you recommend this to others[assume we know that it cant replace your actual computer]?
what programs you guys currently have on your machine? running linux or xp?
