  • at least kill the poor bugger dont just be a douche taht lets it suffer either that or use snap traps which are humane by all standards

  • poor mouse ... dont know why people do this ... motherfuckers.

  • Congratulations! You've used a normal freaking mouse trap, (The cheese ones are so old, mice KNOW what to do when they see one) and captured a mouse! Also, the adhesives associated with those are USUALLY poisoned, as a smell, and make them sleep. Blah. However, you should've ASKED the guy if it was a poisoned one or not.

  • @ChuckNorrisGamer They're not poisoned, they're non-toxic. They're horribly cruel so don't delude yourself that they "fall asleep" because they don't.

  • i hate rat there tail freaky scary

  • @Tippen90012 and that's a reaon to hate them? wow you're a coward. think about it, it's a tail for fucks sake! dogs have tails, cats etc.

  • @213yee How about you shut the fuck up and learn proper english and grammar? You're making yourself look like a complete idiot by trying to attack me.

  • @pippy1994 i agree, i've removed it in shame

  • You think this is bad then look at those 1980s rat traps that don't kill.

  • rats and mice are just hungry whats so bad about them? so its just their population problem. Am I right or am I right?

  • @chesterngiamzhenghao

I think it's been established that the presence of mice and rats poses a health risk to humans (Hanta virus, for example). They carry diseases, the most notorious of which was the bubonic plague, which still exists in some parts of India. So I understand the need to remove them from wherever humans live; it's just the unnecessarily painful method of doing it that I had a problem with.

  • I hate whoever uses theese traps

  • Besides, there is a lot of shameful things human beings do. This is just one of them. All I'm saying, is that such people who torture animals like that deserve to be criticised for it. A pity you didn't speak Chinese well, I would have told him he was a cruel bastard.

  • I agree that people who use this kind of trap need to be educated/criticized about it. I don't think it's fair to say that our handyman was "torturing animals" -- that's a bit over the top. He was however engaging in an accepted practice that is all too common here, and one that needs to change.

Is your Chinese sufficient to engage in name-calling? Wait a minute, isn't calling a rodent-killer a "cruel bastard" a line from Green Mile?

  • I don't think it's over the top. The person set the trap, and then left the animal alive on it (thus causing it to starve). In addition, they mutilate themselves on the trap to get off - I would say this is torture.

But you are right, it is mostly done out of ignorance rather than pure malice. My Chinese is good enough to throw around a few barbs here and there, and the Green Mile was a great movie. :)

  • Okay, Chocabloc, I gotta admit, I was pretty put off by your initial comments -- pretty harsh to accuse me of being complicit in this shockingly inhumane practice -- but now I'm starting to appreciate you.

Just wanted to report that I just requested in writing to my real estate agent (who speaks English and will pass it on the the landlord in Chinese) that if any more rats are caught in those traps, we request that they be humanely killed before being discarded. Will report back.

  • These people are monsters. You could have intervened and killed it yourself.

  • The people of Taiwan are not "monsters," they're people. Although, I admit that this method of pest control is "monstrous." Your self-righteous knee-jerk condemnation seems especially arrogant because you weren't there. No, I could not have intervened; if I could have, I would have.

Do people call you a monster because you like handling snakes? Are they justified in doing so, having never met you?

  • You misunderstand me. I meant the people who dispose of them that way... somehow I doubt all of them do it. I have relatives in Taiwan and they say that they are usually drowned before being thrown away. They view the method you describe, as shameful to them as human beings.

These traps are available in the US and people do the same thing. It is bizarre these traps are still legal over there.

Why couldn't you have put it out of its misery anyway? What was stopping you?

  • Language barrier. As I said, I tried.

FWIW, I've read that recently a branch of the SPCA opened in Taipei. So maybe there's hope after all.

  • @moocattitude

Animal cruelty laws have materialized in Taiwan, because they passed a new law about animal cruelty. All you need to do is present this to the legislature.
