Here's my thoughts...

ONE exclamation point is like the Metal Gear Solid sound where Snake is discovered, and MULTIPLE ones mean a scream- more means a longer scream.

The funny thing is that, even though Apple Kid's inventions are extremely helpful throughout the game, it's only by luck that they just happened to be useful. The fact that Apple Kid didn't even think that zombies were real, yet invented Zombie Paper anyway, supports my theory.
