  • @jmedia Yeah, eh? lol

  • It was supposed to be a Chaplin mustache, not a Hitler one. Ron was allegedly aiming for the Chaplin vibe, but of course, he should have guessed. Or maybe he had...

  • @ViceroyCDR The provocation worked pretty well, I guess;-)...

  • They sound so cute and young!

  • @jrmetmoi They were... And in a certain way STILL are!

  • how very fascinating ^__^

    danke mucho

  • @LLLeeeeeeeee The pleasure is mine:-)

  • you want fame come to Britain

  • @reallyfullofmyself *****-comment... but what about their wit?!?

  • Thank you very much for this.

  • @BalloonAway You're very welcome!

  • First heard this on a saturday scene l.p which featured interviews with all the stars of 74 including david cassidy , gary glitter , sweet , alvin stardust , showaddywaddy etc

  • According to the book, "Mick Ronson: The Spider with the Platinum Hair", Ron & Russell Mael (Sparks) hired Ronno on their LP "Big Beat" but never released that recording. They released a version with guitarist Jeffrey Salen.

  • @GrayMuse Maybe one the reasons I didn't enjoy BIG BEAT so much, who knows... I certainly wasn't involved in any background decisions then.

  • OMG..........I had no idea they were around in 1974! The first time I'd ever heard of them was in 1983 with "Cool Places" w/Jane Wiedlin.

  • They asked Brian May of Queen to join them? Imagine what it would've been?

It's been a privilage listening to their music over the years. Richie979.

  • @Richie979 Even worked with the same producer MACK over the years! Feel the same way here; even had the fortunate opportunity to see them live two times over here...

  • Can you imagine if these two guys would've gotten together with Frank Zappa? Wow, that would have been killer!

  • @zzzxxyy What a thought: Ron, Russell and Frank... the Zparks:-D!?

  • fantastic to hear such a talented duo/group again, thought these were great years ago, and yes there still great. S P A R K S

  • @barry2757 Forever;-)!

  • Gosh...I remember this from 1974 and I still have a copy of this interview album.....best band ever....no doubt !!! The interviewer was Sally James. Every schoolboy's dream at the time...but not mine. I was more into Bolan...lol

  • @exproggo ;-)!

  • He's joking isn't he, about being from LA?

  • THAT's pretty much officially confirmed data, I guess;-)!

  • nope, no joke. they REALLY are from there.

  • Our tour guide back then and there even said he knew where their homes were... Don't know if he really did - and wouldn't have wanted to bother anyone anyhow by ringing the bell and say 'Hi... ah, it's me';-)

  • @MirraSyren Why would it be a joke that they are from LA? Millions of people are from LA.

  • But maybe not SOOOOO many people like those Mael brothers...;-)?

  • @MirraSyren no, what's the joke?

  • @horsedoctorman Of course not.

  • @horsedoctorman Probably their very unstereotypically LA fabulousness. Everybody thought they were British or something when This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both of Us first came out and especially given their unique and stylish looks when they performed it on TV. I mean can you see a Hitler stache going down well in LA when some Jewish bigwigs run parts of Hollywood? I can't! LOL

  • Hey! Do you guys know have they really published a cook book? And what's the name of that book? Great interview!

  • Since nobody seems to recall, it may have never left the conceptional stage I'm afraid to assume... a real pity;-)!

  • Awsome Band

  • So true.

  • Wow, hard to believe they've been around since '74. I remember watching some of their videos when I was a teen and they were always on the periphery of mainstream music. Even in the 80s, they seemed a bit left of center and odd. Anyone know when they officially formed as a group? I don't know too much about their history, pre '80.

  • According to Russell here their history as Halfnelson goes back to 1969!

  • Try the allmusic website.

  • Rare ¿¿¿......a radio show.

    Big f•ckin deal.....; [

  • Where did You get that? This was not a radio feature, but an exclusive production for the giveaway-record I wrote about in the information text; try to buy one of those to see if this record is rare.

  • Achoo.....sorry,

    it's Amateur Hour ,for me.

    Make no Complaints before

    reading the info. - ☼ - •

  • Ok; danke Dir;-)

  • they are really wonderful.imso glad they've been around da world.Had hits everywhere. Im so glad icould find out more about them here!!!!

  • My pleasure completely to provide; makes this worth having shared then:-)!

  • this isn't a rare interview..

  • Not anymore by now; right.

  • Sparks inspired my band Barnes and Barnes.

  • COOL!

  • interviewer eating out of their hands!

  • I was in junior high school when I saw these guys on tv back in the 70's I thought they were so cool and unusual and have followed them ever since. They're just GREAT!

  • Still are, yes:-)!

  • Sally James of TISWAS fame!

  • THANX, maxinebendix;-)

  • Ah the wet dream for teenagers in the miserable, wet 1970s UK.

  • Heh heh, great upload. They've made a comeback with the song 'I Can't Believe That You Would Fall For All The Crap In This Song', which they performed on the Jonathan Ross show the other night. Awesome song, hope they do some more. Absolute legends

  • Thanx; cool;-)!

  • Oh my god, these guys are adorable! :D Had me laughing the whole time. <3

  • Oh, yeah, of a very rare breed;-)!

  • Funny motherfuckers!

  • I would be giggling like her too

  • ;-)!

(and it totally gets out of hand in the second part, really cute)

  • Sorry; no luck so far in finding THAT VHS-tape, but I don't give up yet;-)

  • angelic voices.

  • 3:40

How often does he cook for 40-50 people?!

  • Don't know, but still waiting for an invitation;-)

  • Ace...fricken magic on the stove!

  • Felt completely like that when finding this LP-record on a collector's market over here in '81;-)

  • So good to know (same here;-)

  • Sechs "Lucky Goldstars" for that!!!

    Danke Dir, jmedia1!!!!!!

    Lucky Goldstar (LG),

    Volker

  • Thanx & sorry, haven't got THAT (but am searching already old stacks of VHS-tapes for a very obscure german TV-appearance from around '77/78 with a really SURPRISE ending;-)

  • And they're such a good reason to love America, if you're not American!

  • So very true;-)

  • Yeah, they're one of the things that show the more likable side of America, and of course they aren't as popular as the rest. I think their lack of popularity is sort of a good thing though because I wouldn't want EVERYONE to know who they are. It would make it less special. Plus the only way to get to the peek of popularity today is either with autotune or by being a slut.

  • Have stronger words ever been spoken about this extraordinary band?!

  • This was not taken from "one of their albums", as can be clearly read - if able to of course - in the description. Being not available for 27 years - outside Algeria - counts as 'rare' in my book. Anybody show me 40 other extensive Sparks interviews from 1974 and I'll change my mind; thanx.

(Some people really try HARD to take the fun out of YT...)

  • ;-)!

  • This is just from one of their albums, The 21st century edition of PROPAGANDA contains this as a bonus track. Not very rare.

  • awesome, thanks

  • great stuff!

  • Thanx - and good to see You here;-)

  • no worries my friend!:)

    am on school holyday..:D

    keep in touch:)

    all the best

    jesse

  • But where is part 2? I just can´t wait ...

  • Coming soon;-)

  • Ok, loading; to shorten the wait You maybe enjoy taking a look at 'Mael Intuition' on this channel;-)

  • After 3 tries of uploading the conclusion (got thrown out every time) I quit

    - for now, sorry:-(

  • Very cool. Thanks! :)

  • More than welcome, csm;-)!

  • My pleasure sharing this much too long hidden gem;-)
