  • I like the way the presenter says 'The Auteurs' at the beginning. "New Wave" is such a master piece, i had it on my WalkMan back in '93 and when i was out of battery, i used to sing it from the first song to the last one, so much that it is within my memory forever.

  • ALL CLASS !

  • The cellist & his Bickerton!

  • Should be one one of the greatest Brit bands ever. Shame that not many people know about them these days.

  • not bad. the bass needed a bit more imagination though

  • I wouldn't take 5 Jack Whites for 1 Luke Haines.

  • Reading "Bad Vibes" at the mo, interesting stuff. Always have time for Luke Haines' offerings.

  • @orkitecht85

Brill, nice one. Read it myself recently, he even mentions this show.

  • yeah,them and the KLF !

  • Funny watching this after reading Bad Vibes. When Chalker fucks up the first chorus (@0:45) I imagined James 'the Cellist' Banbury and both Barney grimacing (in perfect time with each other of course).

  • Great. Read the singers book 'Bad Vibes - Britp-Pop and my part in it's downfall'! it's a great read!

  • Brilliant book!

  • It is indeed a great read. He is very funny but also quite a nasty piece of work. I wouldn't want to cross him!

  • You want to read Mark E Smiths [The Fall]book!....put Haines in the same room as Smith...watch the sparks fly!

  • @Echioderm just read it, it's hilarious

  • @DREWJAMES1234

it is a bloody good book. he's a total twat, but he doesn't try to deny it, which is nice in a wierd way!

  • @Echioderm

Thing is, it's more that he *was* a twat at the time and acknowledges it honourably in the book. He's probably a really nice chap now. I bet he'd offer you a Werther's Original and a cup of tea. Like he did with Metallica.

  • @Echioderm Interesting he says he is a twat. I have not read the book but I roadied for the band a few times and whilst I found him to be a very very strange and deep person, he was always extremely civil and a proper gentleman. But other guys I know who worked with the Auteurs did say he could be difficult sometimes. He is still a genius songwriter and amazing talent though. Never get tired of listening to them.

  • Thank you so much I had never seen this before!! They were such a brilliant band...

  • This is great - thanks for posting!X

  • viva los autuers..fantastico!

    yeah, great band, maaaan.

  • Top track - good performance.

  • Totally cool performance.

  • Amateur is a word that means "Amante" or in plain english "Lover", so I`m an "amateur" of the Auteurs

  • Good tune. Always used to make me laugh when the music press referred to them as The Amateurs.

  • Wonderful - thanks for this, pauldee. He'll always be music's Steerpike, to me!

  • Sorry everyone, bit blootered there (blushes hotly).

  • greatest band of the 90's!

  • @traductor

    Greatest band ever maybe. YSF
