I like the way the presenter says 'The Auteurs' at the beginning. "New Wave" is such a master piece, i had it on my WalkMan back in '93 and when i was out of battery, i used to sing it from the first song to the last one, so much that it is within my memory forever.
Funny watching this after reading Bad Vibes. When Chalker fucks up the first chorus (@0:45) I imagined James 'the Cellist' Banbury and both Barney grimacing (in perfect time with each other of course).
Thing is, it's more that he *was* a twat at the time and acknowledges it honourably in the book. He's probably a really nice chap now. I bet he'd offer you a Werther's Original and a cup of tea. Like he did with Metallica.
@Echioderm Interesting he says he is a twat. I have not read the book but I roadied for the band a few times and whilst I found him to be a very very strange and deep person, he was always extremely civil and a proper gentleman. But other guys I know who worked with the Auteurs did say he could be difficult sometimes. He is still a genius songwriter and amazing talent though. Never get tired of listening to them.

Should be one one of the greatest Brit bands ever. Shame that not many people know about them these days.

not bad. the bass needed a bit more imagination though

I wouldn't take 5 Jack Whites for 1 Luke Haines.

Reading "Bad Vibes" at the mo, interesting stuff. Always have time for Luke Haines' offerings.

It is indeed a great read. He is very funny but also quite a nasty piece of work. I wouldn't want to cross him!

You want to read Mark E Smiths [The Fall]book!....put Haines in the same room as Smith...watch the sparks fly!

Amateur is a word that means "Amante" or in plain english "Lover", so I`m an "amateur" of the Auteurs

Good tune. Always used to make me laugh when the music press referred to them as The Amateurs.
