  • thanks for posting, this is the best of all.

  • really a pretty good song! on a bad!! album

  • #279(Tie)

  • gimme a gay thumbs up if you knew both those teles were Schecters

  • this is one of those played in the middle of playlist on the radio so you never get the name these days and i was totally fooled by the sound having no idea it was done by the who. i thought it was a black rock band from around the time i was born. the first 2 minutes have been used on the weather channel for 'local on the 8s' for a year now atleast.

  • Daltry seems like he doesn't know what he is supposed to do in that video. He is supposed to be the frontman, but Townsend took away his front. without an eminence front, people forget.

  • Fuckin MTV days, fuck yeah!!

  • rockstar is the best

  • I guess this was a sound check that got filmed. That explains why there are no shots of the crowd.

  • My favorite all time Who song!

  • Slap yo mama good

  • RIP John and Keith. You are truly missed.

  • You can still catch a video SOMETIMES on MTV4...

  • MTV, doesnt that stand for Music TeleVision? So why all this crap on it now?

  • Best video of all time

  • hey dumbasses this was shot at maple leaf gardens in Toronto on Canada

  • @flamitizer This was shot at a rehearsal in Landover, Maryland during their 1982 US tour. The name of the venue was the Capital Centre. It has since been demolished. I believe there is another video for this song filmed in Toronto. The Who recorded the last concert of their "It's Hard" Tour at the Maple Leaf Gardens on December 17, 1982. These performances were originally broadcast live on cable TV and FM radio across the US and Canada. It was later released in the early 80s on video.

  • @Jefgg are you sure this isn't the video filmed in Toronto watch carefully you'll see the flag of Canada in the background at 2:26

  • @mrracedog3 That is an EXCELLENT observation. The Capital Centre was home to the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League from 1974 to 1997. Most, if not all, NHL arenas hang flags of both the USA and Canada because the league is comprised of teams from both countries.

  • @Jefgg true that can be it also because i have seen them live at the Toronto place and it looks nothing like the one is this video so your probably right

  • "The song produced a video, shot at a rehearsal in Landover, Maryland, during their 1982 US tour, which enjoyed consistent airplay on MTV upon its release."

I couldn't believe I read that online. The only place in Landover for them to play then was The Capital Center. This video was shot at The Capital Center. For those of us that remember that place makes this just that much more awesome.

  • GTA San Andreas brought me here :)

  • @bosswitdasauce same bud

  • A workmate of mine call this tune to be "porn groove music"... (!!?)

  • GOD I love the WHO...I was lucky, I saw them live before Moon died...Post Moon this song was the best!!! Pete you KICK ASS!!!

  • @1stSaintsFan I saw them too before Keith died, for the Who by Numbers tour, it was awesome!

  • @funkychick60 Yes me too..I saw them on the first American Tour of "Who by Numbers"...In 1976 in Ft.Worth TX...I guess like you, I have seen so many shows and so many bands in clubs...Those 4 original members made a sound on that stage like no other band in the history of Music..BEST FUCK 'N ROCK BAND in the WORLD!!!...Saw them later in Baton Rouge with Kenny on Drums and they still rocked...but Keith was a one UP!!!...

  • you gotta wonder what this tune would have sounded like if good ol' Keith Moon had a say in its writing and performance in the studio................

  • Too bad MTV doesn't play music any more... It's more profitable to put that reality GARBAGE on TV :-(

  • ahh back when they actually played music on MTV

  • One of the best songs ever, so so good!

  • ME TOO ROGER DALTREY PLAYING GUITAR A RARE ONE

  • Love this song!!

  • memories

  • In my opinion, The Who is much better than the "milk and cookie sound" of The Beatles.

  • It sounded like Pete Townshend really liked Alex Van Halen's snare sound cus he copped it for this tune. I know Pete and Edward are friends.

  • I must have spent years trying to track down this song, the only versions the radio would play were without lyrics. This is one of those rare examples of a well put together mix of jazz, rock, funk and blues.

  • This song is playing in a great scene in "Law Abiding Citizen"

  • The Who are legends. Music today is crap compared to this.

  • FUCKEN AWESOME REAL REAL REAL MUSICIANS ROCK ON "PETE" N "ROGER"!!!

  • This song got them laid many times

  • @mach3cool FOR SURE!! LOL!!

  • kenn das lied von gta san andreas und habe anfangs beim refrain immer "ich liebe dein schwanz" rausgehört. mit bißl fantasie glaubt man auch das rauszuhören. fand ich immer lustig. find das lied ansonsten richtig gut. very good song. know it from gta san andreas

  • Truly AWESOME!!!

  • hey dis is amelia ferry. u r sounding very good...keep going,......i ll be posting my new music video within couple of days.

  • some of his best playing,at a live sound check,

  • Is Townsend wearing a wig in this???

  • @krazynite HA HA NO!!

  • I don't think Keith Moon could play a 4/4 beat like this. Just not in his nature.

  • Very nice song. :-)

  • This is a great song live. I remember seeing the Who perform this on It's Hard tour in San Diego. It was awesome!

  • Is Daltry even plugged in? lol

  • @mrhernandez81 yeah he's doing the main part..not the fancy fret work...

  • Funny, I seem to remember the annual playboy all star band line-up having Keith Moon voted in for YEARS.. guess that was because he sucked and was a "loser", eh?? Dumbass!!!

  • theres a lot UFC fighters walking to the cage to this song...awesome tune

  • Fucking AWESOME.................

  • damn keith moon was not a loser. he was one of the craziest fuckers ever that had an amazing talent to drum and a completely new style of drumming. Inspired a lot of musicians. hope your bein sarcastic, what have you done with your life that people remember you for years after your death? Nothing. Its 2010 and keith is still one of the best drummers ever to date.

  • @DarkMage965 Not to mention John "The Ox" Entwistle being one of the most, if not the most revolutionary bassist.

  • This is the first version of the song that I heard. Every other just doesn't measure up... even the studio version. :)

  • @bellyjellymusic I SOOOOOOOOOO AGREE with ya on THAT ONE my Friend!!

  • i play this all the time!

  • I remember seeing this video on "Nick Rocks" and thinking may dad would probably dig it...

  • THIS SONG BEATS THE CRAP OUT OF BABA O'REILY, PINBALL WIZARD, OR ANYTHING THE WHO WROTE WITH THAT LOSER KEITH MOON!!- Uncle Donnie

  • @myvideoization Turn off your caps lock. Comments like that and your caps lock on show how stupid you are.

  • I've been a WHO fan for more years than I care to say, but this video shows what pure music can acconmplish. No special effects, just great music, played by masters of the craft.

  • Very hard to find anyone out there now with this kind of talent...they are out there...but you really have to look. Thanks for posting. :)

  • This is how music is supposed to sound!!!

  • Top man

  • sounds different from the album version.

  • @fromthip81 it's live..

  • Simmons!

  • HOW TRUE this song is..... so many fakers in this world. Love this song, lyrics and LOVE THE WHO! Who the F#cK are you? Juniquejulie

  • who is the guy that comes out of the black caddy right when the guitar part comes in? is that roger daltrey?

  • @Lworld63: Yes, that's Roger.

  • Does anyone know if this version is on CD anywhere? Best version of the song IMHO.

  • is this drummer blind? and are these same ppl still in the band today, that is, if this band still is around...i dont know to much about this band unfortunatly. this song is amaaaaazing tho!

  • @ktmyamaha01 did you not watch the superbowl

  • @frankiepumpkineater did you not read my comment very well? and to answer your question, no i didnt, because im not to big of a fan of football anymore

  • @ktmyamaha01 no need to get shitty

  • @ktmyamaha01 No, Kenney Jones is not blind. Unfortunately, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon are both dead. Moon was the drummer from 1964 until his death in 1978 and Entwhistle died in 2002.

The Who at this time had evolved from an R&B influenced band through the Mod years of the 1960s and through and extremely creative period in the 1970s. Eminence Front is probably the pinnacle of this creative period.

Amazing song and the video is fantastic!

  • @nightveil01 ooh ok. i only asked about his eyes because they looked weird. if done research on them since my last post and considering what i know now, i figure he was probably high or something. and yes, shame about the drummers

  • perfect. never have i heard a finer guitar.

  • Two chords and a brigde... Epic...!!!

    Hope they don't quit...

  • hell yeah this song rocks-much too underplayed

  • Man, seeing this on MTV really made me want to be a bassist, and made me of fan of Pete Townshend as well, and led to all kinds of great discoveries as I learned about The Who's earlier work. Thanks man!

  • one of the best videos they did in the 80's

  • This song just smells like sunshine in the afternoon, sunglasses and a martini on a boat... Girls in bikini included

  • EXCELLENT, thanks for the post. Awesome tune

  • So Great -- it kills me that it's the soundcheck!

  • Great song! I'm glad to see so many others who appreciates this one! I'm tired of people who diss the 2 albums made right after Moon died. Maybe they don't fully measure up to Who's Next or Quadrophenia, but there was a few great tunes still in them! Long Live The Who!

  • This is definitely my favorite Who song. A good one to jog to.

  • John Entwistle = cool.

  • Went to a tribute concert for the who at carnegie hall yesterday. Living Colour covered it a nd it was so awesome. This version is the best htough

  • hard to believe that people thought they were old back then (in '82) compare this to the who that performed @ the superbowl. even back then, the proper age for the retirement of rockers had not been established at this time

  • @wirebead Pete looks like he's about 18 in this video. Dressed to kill.

  • Fucking gliding speedboats

Not too many songs with the word "speedboat"... but more than songs with the word "parallelogram".

  • I hadn't heard a song by The Who 'til I heard this one in GTA: San Andreas. :D it's great!

  • Jeez, how young are you?

  • The who is so awesome,DEf. one of the greats by the Who and underated to say the least,My dad saw them back in the day and he said it was awesome when they played this song, still to this day one of his favs by them.

  • Excellent song.

    Everyone songs great. Keyboards,

    drums, guitars and vocals.

  • the guys all looked pretty hot here, i totally forgot about that!

  • Such a great fucking song and video! brings back the good video MTV days memories! Thanks MC

  • Your welcome and it is such a great song

  • agreed, what memories!

  • Does anyone know if this version is on CD anywhere? Best version of the song IMHO.

  • @robcostido Are you saying that MTV used to play music videos?

  • @oakland2949 Yeah in the early days of MTV you could say. It was made a year after MTV debuted in '81.

  • @oakland2949 WHEN??? ;)

  • @oakland2949 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @robcostido

I agree... I miss the old MTV

  • @robcostido Do you think it's as good as today's music? (make no mistake this is EXTREME sarcasm)

  • @robcostido I know what you mean man! back in the day when MTV was MUSIC television and not the stuff you see on there now. I even remember hearing this song in an episode of Miami Vice back in the day!

  • @robcostido miss those days

  • 3rd comment
