this is one of those played in the middle of playlist on the radio so you never get the name these days and i was totally fooled by the sound having no idea it was done by the who. i thought it was a black rock band from around the time i was born. the first 2 minutes have been used on the weather channel for 'local on the 8s' for a year now atleast.
Daltry seems like he doesn't know what he is supposed to do in that video. He is supposed to be the frontman, but Townsend took away his front. without an eminence front, people forget.
@flamitizer This was shot at a rehearsal in Landover, Maryland during their 1982 US tour. The name of the venue was the Capital Centre. It has since been demolished. I believe there is another video for this song filmed in Toronto. The Who recorded the last concert of their "It's Hard" Tour at the Maple Leaf Gardens on December 17, 1982. These performances were originally broadcast live on cable TV and FM radio across the US and Canada. It was later released in the early 80s on video.
@mrracedog3 That is an EXCELLENT observation. The Capital Centre was home to the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League from 1974 to 1997. Most, if not all, NHL arenas hang flags of both the USA and Canada because the league is comprised of teams from both countries.
@Jefgg true that can be it also because i have seen them live at the Toronto place and it looks nothing like the one is this video so your probably right
"The song produced a video, shot at a rehearsal in Landover, Maryland, during their 1982 US tour, which enjoyed consistent airplay on MTV upon its release."
I couldn't believe I read that online. The only place in Landover for them to play then was The Capital Center. This video was shot at The Capital Center. For those of us that remember that place makes this just that much more awesome.
@funkychick60 Yes me too..I saw them on the first American Tour of "Who by Numbers"...In 1976 in Ft.Worth TX...I guess like you, I have seen so many shows and so many bands in clubs...Those 4 original members made a sound on that stage like no other band in the history of Music..BEST FUCK 'N ROCK BAND in the WORLD!!!...Saw them later in Baton Rouge with Kenny on Drums and they still rocked...but Keith was a one UP!!!...
I must have spent years trying to track down this song, the only versions the radio would play were without lyrics. This is one of those rare examples of a well put together mix of jazz, rock, funk and blues.
kenn das lied von gta san andreas und habe anfangs beim refrain immer "ich liebe dein schwanz" rausgehört. mit bißl fantasie glaubt man auch das rauszuhören. fand ich immer lustig. find das lied ansonsten richtig gut. very good song. know it from gta san andreas
Funny, I seem to remember the annual playboy all star band line-up having Keith Moon voted in for YEARS.. guess that was because he sucked and was a "loser", eh?? Dumbass!!!
damn keith moon was not a loser. he was one of the craziest fuckers ever that had an amazing talent to drum and a completely new style of drumming. Inspired a lot of musicians. hope your bein sarcastic, what have you done with your life that people remember you for years after your death? Nothing. Its 2010 and keith is still one of the best drummers ever to date.
I've been a WHO fan for more years than I care to say, but this video shows what pure music can acconmplish. No special effects, just great music, played by masters of the craft.
is this drummer blind? and are these same ppl still in the band today, that is, if this band still is around...i dont know to much about this band unfortunatly. this song is amaaaaazing tho!
@frankiepumpkineater did you not read my comment very well? and to answer your question, no i didnt, because im not to big of a fan of football anymore
@ktmyamaha01 No, Kenney Jones is not blind. Unfortunately, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon are both dead. Moon was the drummer from 1964 until his death in 1978 and Entwhistle died in 2002.
The Who at this time had evolved from an R&B influenced band through the Mod years of the 1960s and through and extremely creative period in the 1970s. Eminence Front is probably the pinnacle of this creative period.
@nightveil01 ooh ok. i only asked about his eyes because they looked weird. if done research on them since my last post and considering what i know now, i figure he was probably high or something. and yes, shame about the drummers
Man, seeing this on MTV really made me want to be a bassist, and made me of fan of Pete Townshend as well, and led to all kinds of great discoveries as I learned about The Who's earlier work. Thanks man!
Great song! I'm glad to see so many others who appreciates this one! I'm tired of people who diss the 2 albums made right after Moon died. Maybe they don't fully measure up to Who's Next or Quadrophenia, but there was a few great tunes still in them! Long Live The Who!
hard to believe that people thought they were old back then (in '82) compare this to the who that performed @ the superbowl. even back then, the proper age for the retirement of rockers had not been established at this time
The who is so awesome,DEf. one of the greats by the Who and underated to say the least,My dad saw them back in the day and he said it was awesome when they played this song, still to this day one of his favs by them.
@robcostido I know what you mean man! back in the day when MTV was MUSIC television and not the stuff you see on there now. I even remember hearing this song in an episode of Miami Vice back in the day!
