From a scientific perspective the ocean is fascinating. The extreme conditions and thriving life are simply amazing. These creatures deserve a great deal of respect, being so well adapted and for having survived so long. I only hope I can see this kind of thing with my own eyes one day.
It has to be a little intimidating to be in the water with such giant creatures and yet amazing at the same time. I'm terrified of deep water where I can't see the bottom. So basically the ocean terrifies me, lol.
Come to Pto. Vallarta and buy a whale watching tour, it is an incredible experience, as sometimes we get 1 mt. away from the whales (IM NOT KIDDING), I work as a photographer for this and other tours, I came to look for matting footage, but I think the tour guide is right, no one has ever seen how they mate....!!!
breaching must be more than just mating behaviors because we just witnessed a solitary female breaching in Massachusetts with her calf. WE were told by our guide that they're still not really sure why they do it. IT could be anger at being intruded upon, or playful exuberance. Regardless, it's an amazing experience.
omg thanks for this magnificent vid! I love whales, but if i were to be so close like this, i'd ve freaked out and fainted. Seriously, "lookit the tail" they're too huge!! :D awesome
totally blown away by these magnificent creatures. just got back from Baja where we had 8 in one go. The calf was hanging around our boat and kept swimming on his back before turning over and breaching. Aboslultey amazing experience!
that was fantastic footage! absolutely mesmorising to watch. do you have restictions on how close you can get to the whales? in australia we do. i think we have to keep at least 100m away and more if they have a calf. thanks so much for sharing this movie :)
Yes, they are intimidating, but what surprises me is how very gentle they are with us humans when we are in the water with them, out of our element and in their element. And yes, the whales are very beautiful, and once you've experienced them underwater you are unlikely to be unmoved.
that is so cool you are really up close to them. I really want to go to bermuda and see the wildlife and everything I can there.

This video really conveys a sense of the ocean's vastness and depth. It's kind of intimidating! The whales are beautiful.
