No. The breadboard is just to make it easy to try different circuits and is not needed. You will need to solder your connections, especially to the transistor leads. Soldering is easy and the irons are cheap these days. There are some good instructions on how to solder on the net. You can learn in like 10 minutes or less and it is a good skill to have.
Weeks. Some of the fellows on OUdotcom in the joule thief topic have been running some of their units for weeks on a single AA. (24 hours/day) Their new coil designs are much more advanced than my simple replication shown in this video. Thank you for watching.
I believe it will work just fine with a rechargeable battery as I have run one off of just a supercap before. Overunitydotcom. Just replace the "dot" with a "." (the period) Joule thief topic.
Thanks! The light output is rated in mcd. (millicandles) A rating of l000 mcd is equivalent to the light of one candle. (I looked it up on the net) I had some, I thought, really bright leds that were 26,800 mcd and I thought that was the highest until I found these. (265,000) Electronics Goldmine has them for about $2.50 ea. These are regular looking 10mm jumbo leds. I am working on my Bedini and also the charger/self runner from fusionchip. I will check yours out as well. Thanks.

@asboobsred
Hey, my Dad taught me how to solder when I was 10. I do not believe that tape would work at all. You need good electrical connections.
