It's an old comedy trick letting something drag on for an extended period - it's funny, then you want it to stop but it continues, then it's hilarious again - it practically writes itself and is the funniest sort of joke. It was also so out of place that when you go back to the actual story it's just a lot funnier.

I'm rambling now, but hopefully this will add to a mass of comments and you will get an Honor that you deserve.
