I agree, and possibly his real life grief over losing a Bill may have contributed to the performance. Miss Bill and Kathy.......the show was never the same when Bill died.....every time I watch the se episodes I wish could be there.

It couldn't possibly be the same, but more important, it was just as good, no show has lasted so long, changing so many characters and being just as great, my favourite 5 tv shows all time, MASH, Summer Wine, all creatures great and small, the avengers and the twilight zone.
