I never heard of this song until I heard a couple of parodies of it by the Capitol Steps - "Christmas at Smith-Barney" and "Time for Killing Barney" (a reference to the purple dinosaur). I finally heard the actual song on Dec. 2, 2006, sung by carolers at a shopping center in Maryland.
