shaw is soooo rude! seriously, if you have shaw switch to something eles. they disconnected our phones while they where fixing our TV so when we called them they blamed it on "someone eles in our household"
that's why i use TELUS shaw's a greedy corporation shaw wouldn't split a line for my two floor home they wanted my home (me upstairs brother downstairs to pay for two full lines) i said screw you, i'm going to TELUS there are thousands of illegal lines, multiple lines in one home i'm one of the few honest people that said: i'll pay for a split line, but they wouldn't have it they wanted to charge my house two full accounts i use TELUS now i can't get rid of SHAW junk e/mails salespeople
I tried to call Shaw yesterday at that number - and it was busy! I tried their 1-866 number, and waited on hold for 50 minutes until I got fed up. I called today and left a number for callback and the message said "you will receive a call back between 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 3 hours 30 minutes." Holy crap, what the hell is going on with them?!
i have a similar experience this week,my promotion plan is ending at 21 September, and I tried to call them during the week after I arrived home but each time i tried after 5pm i received a message that it is after business hours, after so many time trying finally i reached the number on Saturday 10/09/2011 and ai was on hold for 1 hour and 30 minutes !!!!!!!I
The only reason why I am with Shaw is that this part of Calgary(NW), Telus don't even come close to Shaw speeds. Also many people in SE also has experienced huge problems with Telus... For example, the Telus use ADSL system and one of my friends show me that when ever he gets a call on the land-line, the download speed of a a file drops. That is a problem... also Telus customer service told us that their service is faster than Shaw... false! So I am stuck with Shaw because Telus is bad for porn.
I was with Shaw for three years because at that time in 2008, Telus Optik (formerly Telus TV) was at its begining, barely a few HD channels and no French channels (I'm from Paris living in Canada). So I choose Shaw. But I recently made the move to Telus because they offer MORE for the same price, their Optik PVR is awesome! And it's very prompt to talk to a representative... with Shaw you can wait 40 minutes sometimes!
Well at least shaw uses Canadians to answer the phones , not someone that can't speak a word of English . As far as charging for bandwidth everyone has in the past shaw has just started doing it . This is a new thing to do thanks to companies like net flicks who rake in cash on someone else's network.
@Rockythesqurel The only reason Shaw speaks English and hasn't outsourced their customer service to India is because Canada has "two" official languages. Thankfully Indians don't speak french. As far as netflix goes the Canadian version of it blows courtesy of our content du-opoly Shaw/Rogers and Telus/Bell. I dunno.....isnt any competition called for? The more the better.
After ten years with Shaw on the advice of a Netflix rep we have just switched over to Telus after Shaw introduced 100gb data cap on our service. Although we have never come close to using the 100gb limit the fact is one day we could and under Shaw's new pricing that would be very pricey.
So far we have found Telus to be a faster better service offering twice the data at just over half the cost Shaw were charging us.
What does this guy do for a living????? i mean, seriously. Like, do you sit at home all day waiting for a service guy to show up to your door? Hahaha! i love it. Way to go there bud. i have had my issues with Shaw, but they usually rectify the issue. Hey Alistair, go with Telus. They rock. and you get a 3yr contract.
To add to this.. It seems like you have been through a pretty rare series of issues and this has fueled your frustration by missing the first two appointments. In your case, I would have tried choosing other options on the phone menu to reach another department, this way they could transer you.
That's a real bummer. Seems like there was something wrong with the phone line. There would have been no reason for Shaw representatives to disconnect the call and hang up on you. I still think that Shaw is better than any of the competition. Shaw does have competition, but the service just does not compare, Shaw internet is by far the best.
shaw sucks.. Horrible internet, Horrible customer service.. My dads being waiting for help with his tv. He has been on hold for over 102 mins on the phone. That like 2 hours of waiting.
I called shaw several times and this never happened to me, i think its your phone, or during the time you called something with there network was not working correctly. Anyways hope all worked well for you, shaw beats telus any day from my personal experience.
Be very carefull if u want to go with Telus, horrible cust service not to mention crapy internet connection.and the contract you get stuck with.Overall Shaw is pretty good.
I'll use carrier pigeons before I use Telus for anything. I've had Telus TV, home phone, Internet, and mobility, all of them were a joke, service (if I was lucky enough to get someone on the phone after waiting up to 45 minutes, who was from CANADA!!!), the product, it was all pathetic.
Shaw used to be a good company however over the last few years they have laid a lot of staff off. The result is that CS is now very poor. The auto call system is just one example. That said since Telus Internet is so slow Shaw is the only game in town.
As a tech myself, I can say that the problem lies with a bug in the phone system in the way your call is being routed. You aren't just being hung up on. This even happens to me on occasion. Just try a different extension, something a little more vague. They can transfer you if need be.
I'd suggest using TELUS until SHAW is available. The major ISPs offer discounts for the first couple months of service, so even if TELUS is slower or too expensive for you, for a month of service it might be simpler.
Plus you get the added benefit of canceling TELUS, at which point they'll probably match whatever price SHAW was offering.
Having been a CSR, I can tell you that its the phone system almost definitely. Have you considered using an EECB? Executive Email Carpet Bomb. Find the emails of the upper levels of Shaw. The Consumerist is a good place to look for this. Barring that some creative googling shoud do it. Email every exec and VP you can find. Do the following:
Not terribly surprised with this from Shaw. This is the company that deliberately throttles VOIP service like Vonage in order to sell you their own digital phone (or you can pay $10 for them to stop screwing around with your internet pipe).

Probably just a phone system error, hit 0 and talk to somebody who has a 30% chance of redirecting you in a loop or hanging up.
