I am a singer in a band and I have just recently 'found' this song again.....I loved it then when I first heard it and I love it now....must sing it xx
You should check out the original studio recording. It's by far the best version of this song. Nile on guitar and Bernard on bass tear it up, not to mention Sister Sledge's vocals are better too.
That's definitely Joni singing lead on this track....I believe if you google Joni Sledge you can hear tracks from her solo cd TRU...Debbie does have a jazzier alto tone which can definitely be heard in teh background on this song...someone asked where you can find the original track, it's on the "We Are Family" cd...Pointers vs Sledges hmmmm...I've always preferred the Sledges, but the Pointers were great too, especially when they were a quartet dressed in their 40's fashions
Sister Sledge is my most favorite girl group of the 70's. Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards have done the album ''We Are Family'' justice. I still have the 8 track tape of this. Kathy Sledge lead vocals on the album version are phenominal.
live versions of soul and pop like this often becomes not only rough but also cheap; like lots of synth and trumpets instead of strings, violins, and other
funny the original is not on YouTube? used to be here for a while? never a video for this? one off my all time faves. and there was a "ramp"-something syper mix of it from early 90s. anyway a good live version, usually i am not so into live soul stuff like this, it often becomes too "rough" for my taste
Kathy is the main lead singer of the group. She has the raspy/husky voice on the original version of this song. I believe the lead singer on this live version is Joni who is on the left side of this video picture.
This is one of my all time favorite songs! My aunts and uncles and my momma had this record. I used to play it all the time. "I'm thinking of you and what you do to me. That makes me love you, now I'm living in extacy."
I Fell in love with these girls when they came out...I remember the album cover with all four of the sisters on there with the corn rows, I thought they looked so hot...I treasured that album cover cuz they looked so good because you didn't see french braids/corn rows back then, not often...
I rally loved these young ladies when they first came, out and I still right today still enjoy them especially the older songs, this one especially, it has some sentimental value behind it. someone ,please tell me, are they all still alive. irvinbean123
Sister Sledge is currently alive and well with all four sisters in their early to mid fifties. Their most recent performance as a group was at the Pennsylvania Inagural Ball in January (minus Debbie), which is documented on YouTube. There are also videos of recent performances of Joni and Kathy in their solo acts.

The Pointer Sisters had better voices and their harmonies were perfect.
