I'm studying Afrikaans at the moment and its surprisingly quite easy to pick up. It's almost like dutch with a bit of english influence. But I am guessing thats because they are both Western Germanic languages right?
@RandomGanker Where do you study it? Was thinking of buying some textbooks in the near future. Not sure if there are Afrikaans courses here in Belgium. I speak Flemish so it would be great if I could speak Afrikaans fluently (well, more or less)

@chanctonbury63 Yes I have. Been to the Netherlands plenty of times, however I live in South Africa and speak Afrikaans just as well as I do english and for some reason I don't believe that it's "caveman dutch" but just a separate language that developed due to our colloquialisms.
