Hey man, it seemed like you were having some problems towards the end there so let me try to help you out as best as I can. Music only really plays when enemies are present. There are a few exceptions, but not enough to not have that be a rule of thumb. Also, be on guard when you hear scuffling and screeching together. One or the other is usually just ambiance. Both in quick succession is usually something coming to nom you.
