Awesome montage for a great gymnast who had the misfortune of being on the Romanian team in the age of Belu. Goreac or Forminte in another time, in another place would have treated this fine athlete with the respect she deserved imo.

First of all WorldClassGym: What a GREAT montage!!!  Second of all: have you or has anyone else here read Alexandra's book? From the reviews, she opens up on the horrific treatment she and others suffered from Belu. Ex: he locked her in a hotel room for three days without food or water to make her lose weight. English title is "The Secrets of a Gymnast." I can't find it anywhere.

Google the book I bought it on net, interesting but some of it smacks of sour grapes, but I also wonder that if she had won some medals she may not have sold her story. It does tie in with another Rom gymnast who sued B&B i think 2002 ish(?)for mistreatment.

Thanks! I'll probably be able to find it online. I tried bookstores, libraries, etc. There probably is some "sour grapes" elements in it. But there's probably a lot of truth - based on Alexandra's perspective.

mka800 is my old channel. Well, I found the book and read it. It's fascinating. There's really no reason to doubt most of what she says. But man! She described Belu as a total monster. My opinion is that most of it is true - like you said another (actually a few others) have said basically the same thing.

She was actually one of the better Romanians on bars-look how she flows in her routine and goes right up to handstand.

i know, i loved marinescu! she's probably been my favorite romanian gymnast in the past few olympics. as much as i like amanar, marinescu had much better style and i wonder how she would have done in the all-around.

Agreed. With falls from Simona in the team event, and other top performers in the AA such as Khorkina-it is anyone's guess.

At least Alex's fans can take comfort in the fact that like Nadia in 1975-Marinescu won the 1995 Pre-Olympic test event in this very arena-beating some very good gymnasts along the way. :)

Belu was such a stubborn ass. I hated how he treated Marinescu just because she wouldn't move to Deva and lose her style and attitude. Yeah, Amanar is a solid performer, but Marinescu's the only interesting Romanian gymnast I've seen in over a decade, and she qualified fairly...grrr.

Alexandra was my favorite Romanian gymnast in the 1995-1997 seasons. To me she was the most graceful of her team, and could DANCE! Thank you for this great tribute! Alex-you Rocked! :)
