THANK YOU! I was in Yorkshire in Sept 08. Alas, I could not talk people into going to a convention!
Tom keeps saying "no" -- and people will stop asking. Short of a cartoon, like "The Infinite Quest", I can't think of a way to bring him back that would please him and the profit-hungry BBC. Tom and Lis would be wonderful together! :)
big finished has asked baker dozens of times to come back. its highly unlikely they will do that. with the exception of the audio the Kingmaker they are not doing voice doubles. which is best. NO actor can immitate the orignal. we dont need another Hundrell performance. its unfortinet that we cant hear more of his doctor but i understand. hes played the doctor for many years. i doubt hed come back. but at least big finish has plenty of doctors in the mean time.
I don't entirely agree with you regarding Big Finish. Otherwise, why would they have someone else play Rassilon? That wasn't the original actor. Actually, I thought BF's choice sounded better for the part than the original, but the fact is that they don't feel obligated to use originals. I though Hurndel was actually very good, performance-wise, getting the mannerisms more accurately than Hartnell was able to in The Three Doctors. The biggest complaint is that he looked wrong.
for the most part BF dont want sound alikes and really who could imitate Baker? NO ONE.
i did not like hundrel a whole lot. hes ok but hes no hartnell. hes not as good. with minor roles like Rassilon BF can get away with another actor. but for the most part they usuly stick with the original actor and its better that way. all though their recent Companion chronicals is a neat little loop hole to have pasts doctors. but really just think about it. NO ONE can out do baker for the role of 4th doc.
yes but they can do what they did in the Five Doctors and use clips of the first three doctors from different episodes, then have them trapped in a time eddie.
They could use body-doubles, again as in the five doctors. Or Big Finish could be persuaded to get voice doubles (much easier). Besides, I'm not happy with Russell's productions - the stories are too short and the plots feel rushed.
I think that they should do a a story with all the living doctors and just leave out the first 3, rather than do doubles or use scenes from other shows. I think Tom Baker should be brought back at least. I would love to see Tom actually appear with at least one of the other doctors.
That would work, too. Though Patrick Troughton's son is a very good lookalike and soundalike to his father, and deserves consideration. Regardless, a story with every living Doctor would be excellent.
BBC could use CGI like in Benjamin Button for Tom Baker & Colin Baker since they seem pretty different now A double for Hartnell like in 5 doctors but maybe use latex prosthetics (like Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin in star wars ep 3) David Troughton could play his dads doctor & Sean Pertwee would be perfect for his dads doctor as well McGann & McCoy are still very similar from their day as the doctor & Davidson could go either way CGI or just regular and 9&10 are perfect & now 11th it could work!
Hmmm. That could work very nicely indeed. They could also use a mix of effects. For example, if they overlaid Tom Baker's visible skin with latex shaped closer to his looks back then, and keyed to the same colour as for CSO effects, they could CGI over Tom Baker. Why would you do that? Because that gets the shadows correct, it ensures the voice sounds right for the context and it means they have reference values from the unedited version to "sanity check" the CGI rendering.
WHOOOAAAAAA!! That's Tom Baker?? Wow I didn't realized he gained so much weight! I haven't seen this guy since 1986. Dang!
