know nothing of ballet but loved that. physically gasped when she crossed herself. Ends at the end of anna karenina's story i see, rather than seeing through the novel.
i am just after anna karenina ballet, that was dedicated to Shchedrin birthday and after the ballet Shchedrin and Plisetskaya came on stage to greet the audience and it just came as a surprise!!! i am still astonished!!!! what a great couple!!! and what a fantastic evening for me:)
I've always loved the dramatic, fearful music of Shchedrin's Anna Karenina, written in 1972for his wife Maya Plisetskaya. How he achieves the sound of that train at the end I'll never know (and I still don't know after seeing the score!). Shchedrin's music should be better known than it is.
Breathtaking!

One of my many favourite books (I advise you to read it, munkubrain) so I would love to see the ballet live and on DVD.

Did you know that Maya Plisetskaya is the wife of the composer of the music, Rodion Shchedrin?
