No, gold stars is achieved by getting a certain score on expert. Doopian did not get 100% on the song and still golded it.

In Guitar Hero games, gold stars are achieved only by completing the song 100%. But on Rock Band, they are achieved by getting a certain amount of score, usually close to what you would get from 100% (pretty much 98%). It is way easier with more than 1 person though.
