  • O.o how the....what

  • Darn it @ilikethecoke you beat me to the punch!

  • @EldenOmega Yeah, sorry about that

  • I bet ProtonJon's really jealous of you right now.

  • @ilikethecoke haha ya he probably is xD

  • @ilikethecoke He only had trouble on it is because it was his first time playing the level.

  • i never made it this far in battletoads, what are you actually supposed to do here controller wise that make this so difficult???

  • @WeTeX30 Just use the D-pad here, no other controls. U need to time the curves prefectly or otherwise the swirl WILL get to you... and he gets there really soon. Never made it past this level, but hey... I've started playing again recently and one day I will beat this game!

  • I was never able finish this game. Can I download it on the Wii?

  • I gave up counting at 100 tries. How in the FUCK do you beat this level?

  • GODDAMN CRAZED SPIRIT OF THE 1970's, LEAVE ME ALONE!

  • Bryan LaJoie...any relation to internet comedian/rapper John LaJoie (you know the guy who does "Everyday Normal Guy and Show me your Genitals among other gems)

  • @HelloFade2

    No :)

  • hmm the sound that's made when you make a turn, sounds like the sound made when you shoot an enemy in Metroid.

  • What is everyone talking about regarding saves? How can you save on this game? Every time I play, I die on this level and have to go back to level one!

  • @smothaudio i think they mean save states

  • i never got to pass this level, i didnt know how to drive this shit it gets slow

  • Best Boss ever xD

  • LOLLIPOP POSIED

  • what do you have to do in this level??

  • Im Stuck On Dis Level Rite Now On The Emulator Lol

  • Minutes after I post my comment I finish the level by pausing on every corner.

  • This is the only level I'm having serious troubles with; it makes me want to pull my god damn hair out. Even with save states I can't do it. This 360 controller may be the only thing stopping me from completing the level.

  • I love the beat down at the end more than my own children.

  • In some versions this game 11 level can't do what because have many BUGS.

  • controlling is a nightmare!!

  • Oh god I can feel the mind numbing frustration. Every turn has to perfectly flow into the next like a never ending flow of water. One hiccup and you die.

  • Oh wait, I tried again and this pausing helped me quite fast. :D But this is not cheat, just it slow down game, and game is not so rainbow when it standing. And it helps use correct button fast.

This is not cheat and it shouldn't thought this way. This is just hint that helps look and react. But sure you don't need it. You are champion.

    Not hard? :P

  • Do you wnat to say we have hard to beat Clinger Winger because new controllers that we use have 8 directions and most time we turn we probably press direction that is never needed in this level, for example up and right?

That's mean we cannot cross because using old D-Pad is easier to press right button turning? :) Yes? This pausing I tried, this didn't work!

I have beated it only one time and this was with several hours saving and loading game, this time I feel I just cannot cross it!

  • I love what they did to this in the SNES game. Better music, and what's not epic about a rat chasing you with a huge buzz-saw in a construction site?

  • ...so exactly how does the level work? (still puzzled after 3 different videos of this) To turn a corner, you push the Dpad in the new direction, but what happens if you're slow to push the new direction?

  • @TARINunit9 The orb catches up to you. It catches you, you die and start ALL OVER AGAIN from the top of the structure... Imagine how irritating that's gotta be, if it gets you on that final stretch. lol

  • @Classixish

But does your toad just sit in place at the corner until you press the button to change direction?

  • @TARINunit9 Nope. Basically, there's "perfect" turns- meaning, hit the D-Pad buttons at the right time on a corner to change direction, and possibly gain speed. PRess a wrong button or don't press any at all, and you get a "Slow" turn and the orb gains precious seconds on you. ...Come to think of it, Ever since I played this game I've had a real fondness of racing games, like F-Zero; lol..

  • holly shit, i'm triying and triyin but i can't pass it, my fucking dpad sucks

  • I don't get it, this level is like.. one of the easiest ones. The sewer stage and the last tower caused me the most trouble.

  • FUCK YEAH MAN!!

    KICK HIM IN THE BALL!!

    WHOOOOOO!!

    Still haven't beaten level two..

    WHOOOOOO!!

  • That Harderst level than in Sega Version

  • this level was the most annoying thing i ever played when i was a kid, but i found the easy way to complete it in the nes original game with the original joypads (year 1995-1996 10-11 years old) press start in each corner an instant BEFORE you make a turn, then press the next direction and so....by this you got more "reflects skills". Try it!

I was so happy when i beat the dark queen for the first time... ;-)

  • the whole game is fuckin hard. 3 lifes and no passwods ...

  • Classic Controller turns out to help. Wiichucks seriously suffers analog stick issues.

  • @MasterKnightDH this is for the wii? o_O

  • @Cupcom5

It's for the NES. I was using FCE Ultra GX.

  • @MasterKnightDH i know its for the nes, i played it. i thought it was also for the wii since it got the other games on it. i hate this stage. the NES one almost made me wana throw the stick. =_=

  • They should have randomized the stage each time you attempt it.

  • I played Battletoads incessantly on the NES. I eventually learned and mastered the game. I must admit your technique for killing the clinger winger boss was very interesting.

THe three hardest levels for me were the Rat Race, Clinger Winger and the Terra Tubes.

    Good job

  • How many reload save states did this take?

  • This make the rat race look like a breeze. I can't imagine ever beating this level. I'm not even going to waste my time. I'm getting a game genie tomorrow.

  • If you guys are playing this game through an emulator, the pause trick does not work on stage 11. Instead, try to reduce the emulation speed to 50%. It's kinda easy to beat this stage that way.

  • you make it look so easy. i always get killed by the damn.. thingy! my bro has emulator on his xbox. idk if that's still possible to slow it down like that. i have no prob beating this stage on genesis version, but the nes one is hard. im still on it

  • this was the only level I could not beat in this whole damn game. I had to use game genie for this bs. lol

  • thanks for the pause trick idea guys. it really helped me to pass this nightmare level.

  • Pause trick ftw. Tried forever to beat this. Took me some time, but the pause trick finally allowed me to beat it.

  • DX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Easiest way to beat this level. Pause the game at every turn. While the game is paused, reset your thumb on the correct position on the D-pad and then unpause the game. Do that through the whole course, you'll finally be able to get to the end.

  • I like being known as one of those guys who can beat this game... but it takes forever to program yourself to be able to beat it with anything resembling ease...

  • i must of nut in my pants the first time i beat this level. i think the trick is to remeber the track and LIGHTLY press the directional pad.

  • Level 9, by far the worst. I only say that cuz I think I might have beaten it twice! This game still makes me mad to this day. Thank God I gave up trying to beat it. It's actually easier to have 3 way sex than it is to beat this game.

  • Yea on the NES i could pass this with ease. Now i have it on my XBOX and using an emulator to run it. Its almost impossible with a XBOX controller.

  • @the1andonlybigh I hear you, I never got the opportunity to try on an NES controller, but I had to resort to the keyboard for the emulator. The xbox just could not cut it.

  • Yea, thats what i had to do. Lucky you didn't try it on the NES, you would be throwing the controller trying to beat it without saves states, lol. This is one game i never conquered on the NES. Ive even tried recently, i lose all my build up of lives by the time i get to the Tower, and screw up the level.

  • this is not the original version battletoads is modified...the original is very hard at the clinger winger level

  • You corner way faster than the energy ball, but it's faster than you on straight aways... I never die on this level, cept sometimes at the boss fight.

  • I'm about to smash my fucking screen. I can't get that gay little thing to go fast at all

  • Yea, boy! That's the way a giant toad's supposed to..beat up... a giant... marble...? Wtf-- this game was weird, lmao. but I loved it, it's part of gaming history

  • Made this Level only with two hands on the cross (of the controller). Three days of training though

  • what is the trick to speeding up? I've tried everything and get owned only a little ways in.

  • I hate you color-changing peppermint swirl! I hate you with every fiber of my being!

  • @nightofthelivingdon. Agreed. This level is the hardest fuck in Battletoads. I could never get past this level. Had to use Game Genie to skip this bitch. The Tower is nothing compared to this ass.

  • Agreed, and I ***DID*** use an original Nintendo controller because I played this game when it first came out!

I recently found out about the pause trick, but I never knew about that back in the day.

  • Stuck on this level right now *grumbles*

  • i couldnt get past this level... it seemed so simple..when i was a kid i thougth that ball was a gumball..so= i called it the gumball level...

  • Excellent!!

  • I've played this game since I was a kid, and I'd say this, and Terra Tubes are the 2 hardest levels.

  • i made it to this level with 8 lives and all my continues. For some reason i randomly slow down sometimes even if i'm holding the direction down. I'm using the nes/snes duo controller though, which is more like a snes controller..maybe thats it. Either way, i can't wait to try it 100 more times!

  • I'm reminded of Diabetus' excellent Let's Play of this game.

When he does this level, he does a great job explaining how it works and what you're supposed to do...and puts it to great music.

Incidentally, this is the level that is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE with two players--a bug made player 2's controls not work here, making this a kill screen of sorts.

  • Unless you are playing the PAL version.

  • That had to the one of the best runs i have ever seen on that.

  • I'd say that from the first time playing, level 3,6,7,10,and level 11 are the most difficult levels on the game.

  • I Do not agree on level 10 level 9 is harder!

  • That's probably the hardest regular level.

  • that is true.

  • I'm Stuck At This Level For A Long Time

    Please H.E.L.P !!!

  • Uh, BrYaN5555, could you explain to me exactly how the controls work in this level? I don't really know how they work.

  • i just played this level for the first time, lost all 3 continues, didnt beat this level.

And finally my left thumb hurts!

  • Damn, I could make it to this level but never was able to beat it.

  • THIS LEVEL IS HELL!!!!!!

  • this level IS FUCK DIFFICULTY

  • oh yeah! try it you're self

  • I could never get past this level ... makes me wanna get out the nes again

  • in this level you have to press A B A B A B to run away from the ball?

  • Huh? No, just the D-Pad

  • so why is hard?

  • Because you have to time it right. But I don't find it that hard to be honest. I don't have any problem with this stage. Once you memorize it.

  • I've noticed some have trouble with it and some don't. I have a bud that can beat it pretty much any time he tries, but I can't seem to get the timings down.

  • It's hard because you have to HOLD the directional button and as soon as you turn switch to the other direction and hold it too. The problem is that you need to switch extremely fast, or you will be run over.

  • Comment removed

  • try it. and then you know

  • @rave64 because its fucking hard

  • Yes, this is really. sharp tumbling passage

    ball lagged for screen.

  • No really, I assure you, I didn't use any cheat code or anything at all.

  • Well i can't get such a distance on the NES, but on the gameboy remake i was able to do that <_<

  • @EricPR239

You're obviously not as experienced as some.

  • @EricPR239

Lmao, dumbass. I ALWAYS got the ball OFF THE SCREEN when I did this level... AND I WAS 6!!!

  • @KikiTottori What are you, a Martian??

This is the only NES game I've never beaten, and it's all because of this damn level!

  • @EricPR239 nah Eric, every time you turn a tight corner perfectly timed you should gain some distance on the ball for a moment. Usually the ball makes up the distance on straightaways or poorly/averagely turned corners. If you turn enough corners well enough it is possible to carve out a comfortable lead like that for stretches of the race.

  • I HATED THIS STAGE i use the keyboard then at the end use the controller its easier

  • Try this on a psp emulator, it is impossible

  • i play battletoads on a nesticle emulator, and I cannot for the life of me beat this level. you beat it so easily. I think its tough to make quick turns using the keyboard. Great job man.

  • I actually found a way to get through it using a keyboard: when you hit a corner, keep pausing it (holding down whatever direction you were going in), and when the bike thing changes direction (the frog won't, that's OK), change direction.

  • Hello BrYaN5555 woooow, u are a great master of Battletoads!! I play with emulator, do u know how can I get lifes with the keyboard? The tips doesnt function in my case. Thanks!

  • Not too sure what all this "keyboard" stuff is about, but the best way to get extra lives is on stage 2 from the birds. Hit them enough times and they give you an extra life. Do this on most of the birds in the stage, and you can collect enough lives to see you through the game.

  • Terra Tubes (lv9) also has a neat thing with the rubber ducks: if you lose all your lives there and get the Continue screen, you get there once again, not getting killed, get the two extra lives and beat the rubber ducks for points to get another 9 lives, retaking the last life if they kill you. it works wonders

  • Even more nifty is the enemy near a 1-up right at the end of the level. Take 1-up, kill enemy, suicide, repeat. Infinite 1-ups. Boring, but easy.

  • the ducks works better: jumps of 5000 points each time you knock it over :3 and they don't die!

  • winger= \m/

  • I got stuck for almost a year on this level, Couldn't for the life of me get it. I'd reach this point with over 40 lvies in stock from the seccond level and still fail. Would have blister on my fingers by the end. Then one day, I finnaly got it, and now it seems so easy. I guess I just wasn't that good at cornering!

  • If someone here really want to test themselves on this level, download the Nesticle95 emulator.

This emulator is one of the worst out there,it´s soo difficult to beat this level if you use that emulator.

The sound sucks and the controlls arn´t that good, and ofcourse not to mention there are a bunch of graphic error aswell.

    Good luck any way!

  • >>>>"With an original NES controller, Clinger-Winger is actuall quite easy..."

No it was not easy, you bastard. It was still difficult.

    >>>>>>>>"....with a little practice."

*immediately shatters BrYaN5555's bones with two sledgehammers*

There's no such thing as practice, you idiot!

  • Very constructive:)

Anyway. Yes it's easier with an original NES controller than a Playstation 2 controller. Didn't test every controller though.

  • Is there some technique that you use when using the regular controller? I can only beat this level with the NES Advantage.

  • Yeah, it sound like a very good idea to use the NES advantage here. And no, I have any other technique other than memorizing a litlle, and trying to take the corners as soomth as possible...

  • You are right though. When I first played this level, I was getting wrecked, but now I can beat it without dying with little effort .

  • Best way to beat clinger wingers is to pause as soon the graphics glitch slightly on a corner (there's a weirdass quasi turning glitch animation), hold down the right direction, and unpause. It makes it MUCH easier.

  • Yeah, I figured that out myself when I had this game years ago. Also, muting the TV helps so you don't have to hear the music switching all the time.

  • Yeah, I figured that out myself when I had this game years ago. Also, muting the TV helps so you don't have to hear the music switching all the time.

  • i couldnt pass it neither, im waiting for Battletoads for PS3

  • I cannot beat this level for life... I'm playing it on emulator so maybe not having the NES controller is hurting me, like you said.

When, exactly, do you change direction? It looks like the instant just after the toad corners? I usually end up pressing it too soon and slowing down.

  • Wow, you smoked that thing. I'm impressed.

I'll admit that I'm pulling my hair out over this stage even now; I remember beating it as a kid, but for the life of me, I just can't do it now. I bet you're right about the NES controller.

  • does pressing diagonally work?

  • It doesn't help, but on a NES controller it doesn't hurt your speed that much.

  • Guess I'll try that index or middle finger over each D-pad directon thing.

  • that's the way dude, you kept that retro dot out of the screen almost all the stage!

  • I almost refused to believe what I saw. I'm trying to beat this damned stage right now, and I--after all these years--STILL am struggling with it!

  • Try it with an original NES controller... I was playing with a PS2 controller on emulation the first time and it was really difficult. When I got the original game & playing with an original controller, it was really easier!

  • Ditto! I remember this level being the bane of my existence back when I was a kid. I would sit there for days trying to beat this level and I never could... I'd be fine up until this level and then that damn ball would always catch up to me.

  • Ok, I never, ever got this far. Doy uo have to time the turns perfectly, or do you just have to press into the next direction..

  • With an original NES controller, you basically just have to memorize the stage, and press the right direction. No need to be "perfectly" timed. It just take some practice.

  • There's no need for memorising either, it's pretty slow, and you have to change the direction at the corner anyway.

  • Man, you sure showed him!
