One of the greatest sega tunes from one of the greatest sega systems of all time, back from an era when sega defined the arcade experience. Pure classic!
@tkayube If you've seen any Sonic Retro Sonic ROM hacks, they mostly use a shortened version of this song as an intro, right after the SEGA logo, but before the game itself starts. gnulinuxman is right, though. It is from Space Harrier.
I love this Bios on Japanese Sega Master System very much !!!! Sega made a greatest job with this !!!! FM Chip ROX !!!! I wanted my Sega Master System III Compact have this BIOS or the Snail Maze Game built in !!! :-( Sega 4Ever !!!!
@mattsprinter Actually, If an FM chip is installed in your US Master System, you won't get this screen. Therefore making the FM chip in your SMS useless. HOWEVER! Some of the games released in Japan that are also in the US STILL have the FM music/sound effects code. R-Type, Rampage, Outrun, just to name a few games.

Why cant console startups today sound as cool as this one? I mean, this music was probably really cool back in the 1980's and it still is today!

This is good, but i would prefer to listen with EITHER of the sound chips (PSG or FM). sounds alot better with FM by itself.

This is the coolest BIOS screen ever. Even beats the Mega CD and Famicom Disk System.

What? SEGA mark 3 has a different intro screen than this. Besides, they are 2 different machine types.

What would happen if you put an fm synth in an american sega like mine? What would the startup be like?
mattsprinter 2 years ago
It would only use the PSG chip, basically a lot more simple.
seanieb64 2 years ago
@seanieb64 Actually, it would use the YM2413 on supported games. I've installed one in my PAL EURO SMS1, using a board made by VileTim. :)
