  • @lyoko34 :D that's how I feel to :D I want to go here so bad !!

  • um....what about aMERicans. You go out of your way to show people how noble you are, even to the extent of ignoring Americans.

  • 1:25 Berklee Trek The Next Generation

  • IM A SOPHOMORE IN HIGHSCHOOL AND THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE I WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE IM GONNA DUEL MAJOR AND HAVE A MINOR IN PSYCHOLOGY

  • Starting my first semester at Berklee, Fall 2012!!!!!! AHHHHHHH

  • @mollinicole888 well fuck you very much

  • This makes me want to cry.

  • @pugs321 I know the feeling dude.

  • @rockinroller25 Dude, do you know why I said that?

  • Does anybody know if you must attend community college FIRST before you go to Berklee? Is that true?

  • @MHidalgo8 No, that's not true

  • @spacitydrummer4JC I for one would like to teach music and you need a degree to teach at a university and I wud also like to compose and this is a great school to magnify my talents, is that enough for you?!

  • Assuming they graduate, where do Berklee students expect to work afterwards? They just expect to walk into a studio, record something, and become millionaires? Take out another massive loan and open a record label? If they want to play on cruise ships, which a good portion of them do, I can do that without a degree. If they want to audition for P. Diddy's band or start their own band, which a good portion of them do, I can do that without a degree. What exactly are their intentions?

  • @spacitydrummer4JC Hey,

I am a Berklee student, and I thought I'd let you know they don't let idiots into Berklee. We are not that naive. They even tell you pursuing a career in music is mostly freelance and entrepreneurship, and it's about how much you want it and how hard you're willing to work for it. Nothing in this life comes easy, but if you want to succeed, you work for it. So, no. When I graduate I'm not expecting to become a millionaire, or to even sing on a cruise line, but

  • @spacitydrummer4JC I am 110% PLANNING on being successful. There are also a lot of jobs in the music industry, it all really depends on what you want to get into. Success is a choice, not something that just falls on you. In the end, it is your hard work that puts you in either a good position or a not so good one.

PS. I also think that you think you know more than you actually do.

  • I just auditioned and applied to Berklee for Fall 2012!! I am hoping I get ACCEPTED:)

  • Berklee College of Music is my dream college! I cant wait until I apply there in 2 years.

  • @LutherjrVatersticks depending on where you live, you should also consider the Musicians Institute in hollywood california. i go there and its absolutely outstanding!!! nice kids from all over the wolrd and some of the best musicians in the world as your teachers. if you still decide to go to berklee thats fine. its also an amazing school!! but this is my opinion on Musicians Institute. good luck!!!! :D

  • @drummermikerocks1 Thanks for the advice! I live in NY but I've been hearing great things about the musicians institute lately. I'm going to check it out.

  • Presidential scholarship FTW :)

  • @pebblefrog196 Are you serious?

  • @JELLYS1AP That's what I'm aiming for. the original post was a little misleading I guess :P

  • Actually it has already happened at Berklee ...

two guys who grew up together met another dude at Berklee

    they started a band ...

    Called it

    Dream Theater

10 Million+ albums sales world wide

  • @ChrisHaspeck YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @ChrisHaspeck they dropped out of there though

  • @lakajd yes they did. Likely because they realized that a degree in music doesnt mean a thing in the world of Rock n Roll , or the "music industry" for that matter. Clealy they apply what they have learned as studied musicians. Very few 'musicians' (these days) it seems are able to play and READ music - oh yeah remember music ? Litle black dots with tails arranged on five horizontal lines - written with different clefs. As a classically trained musician I have an affinity for DT in that regard.

  • SO THE PRESIDENT OF BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC DIDN'T EVEN STUDY MUSIC? HE STUDIED PHYSICS IN COLLEGE..... THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE COLLEGE FOR ME LOL

  • Man, i have good news for you berklee, I CAN BE THAT BRAZILIAN GUITAR PLAYER, or a bass player too if you want it! just pick me and give me a chance! xD

  • no they make u feel real at home in the audition, thts what I've experienced as well as heard.

  • There's so much propaganda at this school... "Let Berklee discover you!" Yeah right... you make your own way. Don't come here to become famous, come here because you LOVE music with all of your heart and soul and would do it even if you never made a dime off of it.

Berklee makes all their students think that they're going to be the next BIG THING in music and then they become all discouraged when after Berklee they're on welfare collecting food stamps living with smelly hipsters in Brooklyn.

  • THIS IS UNFAIR I HAVE THOSE TALENTS AND INOVATION AND YET THEY DON'T ACCEPT ME!!!!!

  • @rockinroller25 They only accept over-rated people like Bieber, and lady gaga.

  • @daoyinyang Not sure if trolling or stupid.....

  • where is this college located?

  • @AbiRaquel Boston

  • ESPERANZA FOR THE WIN :-D Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • I want to go here!

  • I AM A BRAZLIAN ....and im a guitarrist..lol im trying to find ppl that really likes music and r not lazy..but its kind of hard......i want to go to this college and i fisish high school.....

  • Its Mr. Mackey! Mmmkay. I wonder if Trey modeled the character after this guy when he was a student there, mmmkay. Mmkay.

  • "Error, try again".... for calling berklee a g**ber institution?? lol

  • so basically they'll except anyone as long as they got the moneyzzz

  • Mmm kayyy

  • I'm the Icelandic vocalist

  • When I saw how much studying in Berklee costs I realized why people save money for their child's college studying for their whole life..

  • im in high school, i'm workin towards it . im makin it somehow

  • What Berklee looks for in a student is 50,000 dollars a year.

  • @nuke97 damn rly?lol

  • @eromigor Yup.

  • @eromigor I highly recommend going to a regular university instead.

  • @nuke97 y did u go here?

cuz i might want go here but not if its a bad school

  • @nuke97 damn straight... :-/

  • @nuke97 dead on

  • @nuke97 What did you expect? It's an amazing college. That's what all prestigious colleges cost, maybe less.

  • guys i need guidance? do you honestly think its a scam? i have been studying super hard to apply with my all three of my instructors, and now everyone is saying this place is no good? what should i look into im seriously so lost. im a singer (i can actually sing) , piano player, and can play a few chords on guitar nothing amazing. im a senior this year, what should i do? :///

  • @buggy627 GO FOR IT!!! DO NOT let people's *opinions get in the way of you trying it for YOURSELF i go and I love it there haven't been there for no more than a month n I'm already improving a lot, meeting amazing people, and Berklee will bring sooooooo many endless opportunities, from a gig down the street to singing back-up for a major artist, but you'll never know if you never try,you feel me? You don't want twenty years to pass n think *what if...

  • @Mark2072 Hahah I did audition. Last month I don't know if I got in yet. What's it like? what's your major? Thanks for responding. I'm glad I auditioned anyway

  • @Mark2072 I would love to attend, i am very interested in their Music Performance program. Was the audition tough?

  • @buggy627 All music schools essentially do the same thing. They even out your playing by making you focus on all aspects of music all day, every day. If you’re incredibly studious you can find all the same information on your own, but it would probably take you about ten years to digest it all on your own, and networking would be harder. A degree in music is useless unless you want to teach music at a university. So, if your goals are to perform or create, you can go other routes if you want.

  • @buggy627 Also, don’t convince yourself that Berklee is the be –all- to end all. Every single music school on the planet teaches about 80% of the same material.

  • @buggy627 Oh, and as pointed out by many other people Berklee is more up it's own ass than any other school in the states. Trust me, Harvard grads a twice as humble as most Berklee kids. If you go there, go for the great teachers, and ignore the propaganda.

  • he sounds like mr makay mmmkay

  • BERLKEE SUCKS

  • i think this is such a waste... if your a good artist your a good artist. you shouldn't be taught to be one. it should be something you find in yourself with your won passion your own personal studying... not trained like a fucking monkey.

  • @aguitaraddict That's logical to a point, but college is a voluntary thing, so in choosing to go there you're displaying that it is your passion, and thy you would like to indulge yourself further into the components of what you love. It's about expanding on what you know, and using it to your advantage. High school is an industrial assembly line, but college is what you want it to be.

  • @aguitaraddict yea and you should strive to learn as mush as you can... what has not learning done for all these old dudes stuck playing on youtube

  • The only way to get treated fairly at Berklee is if you are a valuable asset to their advertising campaign. Then you will be treated with absolute favoritism by the faculty/administration.

  • Well, I've never been to Berklee, so I don't have much to base an opinion off, but I figure there must me some truth in all these complaints, right?

All I know is this... $50,000 to spend a year at Berklee College? Fuck that!

That's more than the two years at my school will cost me( all of it, not just tuition). I've been here for about a month, and as far as I can tell it's a good school. The teachers give a shit, and the classes are small( 30 guitar players in the whole program!)

  • @MikeBsMovies mind i ask what college you attend? its application time :o

  • @buggy627 Grant MacEwan in Edmonton. Two months in, I've seen people improve like crazy.

  • Is it true there's some sort of revolt being planned against berklee?? I heard some people talking about it the other day in class

  • Berklee has more drug dealers posing as musicians than it does actual musicians.

  • things happens for a reason, maybe attend to berklee is not a good idea, is very very very expensive, i dont understand why is so expensive..is a bachelor degree not a grad school

  • I want to go here:) my music teacher has two students that have gone here, two of which recieved scholarships :D

  • haha what berklee is looking for in a student? money money money money money!!!!!!

  • @melissblissers Thats so true!

  • This guy is such a con-artist. Don't listen to his lip service. Berklee is a scam. You will be bankrupt and he will be rich.

  • hey you....do you attend berklee or someone you know? i wanna know why yo says that berklee is a scam

  • @Whatisthescore I agree!

  • @ajg23p yup they need money to run a school of this caliber. It sucks it has to be that way.

  • dont mean to be full of ones self, but I think I'm the kind of student they're looking for. especially because I have the money to pay for it xD, well sort of...

  • Respond to this video... berklee is a scam

  • Dear Mr. Brown.....I've read alot of things...bout all of stuff...but I don't know enough about you...la la la Peggy...or if you hear a song in blu....Morgana, or young become the...or..keep Katie...cause I have Liz...Jim Nanc..is your gorgeous Nose...wow but mine's better...wanna take a look? Tough...shhhh Ask, maggs..Jeff...or Bob..xox Where do I signed up 4 LIFE???

  • How the hell are a Brazilian Guitarist, a Chinese Percussionist and an Islandic Vocalist going to meet at this school if their respective parents are not some drug lord, some highly positioned member of the corrupted party that rules China and the son or daughter of Bjork?

Now you tell me that creativity, adaptability and originality historically originate of this pampered type of person and maybe, only maybe I'll believe you Mr. Brown. For the rest, this video is putrid hogwash.

  • @hu6h057 When a scholar institution charges more per semester than what the average BA earns on their first 2 years of employment (out of the "western world" that is), you have got to ponder on the possibility that this school is nothing more than a cash cow for some neo-aristocratic elite with one goal in mind; Getting more dough, more cash and/or more gold.

  • "There are three things we're looking for. We're looking for cash, we're looking for checks, and we're looking for publicity." I'd love to give our dear mister brown a slap, send him home, and take the hell over.

  • Gosh, i want to go to this school so bad, but im a mediocre singer (well people compliment me but im sure its just to be nice) and i have no prior training (which is something they stress) But i do love writing songs/ poetry. Do i somewhat have a chance? D:

  • @IlikepurpleXP

    Sorry, but no.

  • @IlikepurpleXP You have to apply to find out! But believe me I am not that good and I got in....I enjoy playing and thats what mattered. If you enjoy playing or singing or writing try your luck at Berklee. You never know it may help you more than you think. The experience is nothing compared to that of a regular university.

  • I wonder how Berklee is now... Joe Satriani talks about it being "like Animal House", with "people smoking pot and setting fires in the alley", "most of the students were kids who looked like they couldn't get into any other school":

I hope that's not what I get for $22k+ per semester...

  • i dont need berklee

  • @atl2maryland u mean that you cant get in

  • @bassjak666 never ever even thought of trying to get in because Berklee is not for me.. and if some of the crappy audtion pieces I saw were good enough to get in I shouldnt have a problem

  • I am going to Berklee! Nothing and no one will stop me. I AM going. I don't even have to think about it. I'm going.

  • @tjolmsy

I will see you there my brother. Promise. :]

  • Siobhan Magnus: rejected by the Berlee College of Music and one year later singing with the Bee Gees. God, it must suck to be the admissions officer right about now.

  • This is a lie. I am the definition of everything he said.

  • Check out my music and you be the judge..... Look up Fightin' Ray

  • this lifted such a weight from my chest oh my god im going to this school in january hah

  • :O I am touched. I really want to go to this college but I am constantly worried about my lack of sight reading skills.. thank God.

  • and a ton money.....

  • man i love berklee. i got in a about a year ago. knew nothing of sight reading, improvising, and i was so nervous for the performance i botched my original songs, but for some reason they saw something in me and gave me a shot. now im in three pretty tripped out bands (still shy away from jazz) but i count even comprehend how much ive learned just being in the berklee enviroment. it really is an amazing school.

  • @DaPartnerinDaCrime you're not in berklee, don't lie about shit like that man

  • @iunnodiapeys uhh yes i am. im a elpd major

  • If that is what you are looking for you must give me a scholarship plz!

  • i was thinking of going to berklee, but i have no musical skills, so hopefully since im a freshman in highschool ill gain the abilities that they are looking for in a student, wish me good luck :] <3

  • Everything Brown says is entirely true, at least in my case. I'm not a virtuoso and I'm pretty much (was and still is) allergic to Jazz. I got to Berklee based on potential, or promise, rather than actual accomplishments. I'll be graduating next semester, and looking back on the three years I spent here, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. Sure, there are several little flaws and a few major criticisms I have about Berklee, but in the big picture, this place is unbelievable.

  • i was offered a very generous scholarship to berklee, and during the interview process was told i would be a perfect addition to berklee, and that there was no way i would not get in.... and i didn't get in hahaha because the director of admissions damien bracken had issues with me.... i tried to get in tuch with the president but never got a hold of him....

  • @dmmc1043 How much scholarship money did you get?. I was given $18,000 a year

  • @dmmc1043 how do you get scholarships??????

  • @InsanityType66 you have to be really fucking good. If you can get a scholarship from Berklee, you're probably good enough to just start yourself in the music world.

  • Great, I'm soo there =D

  • @Bartekdex Already there! Heheh. If you wanna see how I got in, it's on my channel.

  • @KwameNewton Good I'm glad it's not just my family =) But I mean they don't really accept music as a "real carreer". Rather, they think it's a hobby and should be done in your free time when you get home from the office =S

  • At the end it sounds like he's describing some weird threeway hook-up. Just sayin'.

  • ahahahahahahahahahaaha

oh my God I'm laughing my ass off

  • @KwameNewton LOL

  • @KwameNewton YOU ARE MY FUCKING HERO

  • Berklee is a scam and is guaranteed to wasted your money. And, Roger Brown is a swindler trying to trick untalented people to spend $30000 for a semester. They take people into this school who don't belong there in order to steal their money.

  • hey dude

do you have any proves? or was that just another bullshit?

  • @bigmwhite Go to the video titled Berklee All Star Quartet part1 and read I what I say there.

  • Berklee tells you that making it big in the music world is not a guarantee. It's ultimately up to you. The only way you can truly waste your money is if you just go to the school and do nothing with what you learned afterwards. That's why he says "passionate" because it's not about just going and saying "I went to Berklee!" because you did. Even though Berklee is one of the leading colleges in music in the world today, they choose the people who they think will make a difference.

  • Nope. Get off the acid, son.

  • Im going to berklee, fuck it

  • me too! i'm getting my associates here at my university than a year off and going to berklee!! let's dominate em!

  • When you convince your family, lemme know how you did it =P

  • who needs to convince when you just have the obvoius talent?

  • Even if you have the talent, families (specifically parents and grandparents) tend to resist you becoming a musician. I find they don't believe you can make a proper living

  • Yeah, they say that "money isn't everything", and then tell you that you need to make 'X' amount of money to "support your family".

  • @xaviermoyssen The "3" things he's "looking" for are all lies. They like boring, non creative, same garbage. violins and guitars, piano's. They do not want creative new age style.

  • @xaviermoyssen Me too :)

  • @xaviermoyssen Yeah~~~!!!!!

  • @xaviermoyssen get ready to go bankrupt..:(

  • This makes me feel better - ALOT BETTER - about applying to music college... These guys aren't even looking for skill or 'the next best guy', they are just looking for people who love music and have the motivation to learn all they can from and about music..

  • thats what i was thinking. I was immidiately discouraged because i thought they were looking for really technical players...im applying for sure

  • Well there IS a limit to your skill. He didn't say can't play at all, he said if this is off or you play in a weird tune, etc. Sightreading is the only thing he said if you don't know how to read because there is no in between. It's read it or not. Trust me, Berklee is not only looking for passionate prospectives, but also prospectives with a certain amount of skill. If they didn't care, there would be no point in their auditions.

  • Well yea, obviously, but I figured they were looking for those types that have been going to private lessons for years and could play Flight of the Bumblebee with their eyes closed, like really technical and exact kind of thing.

  • @GlitchHalo Their auditions are just there for show. It's a scam everyone knows that.

  • as he was talking about what the chinese iclandic and brazilian dude was making in their dorm room

    I immedietly thought meth

  • check my blues guitar if you like please comment if you dont like please comment or rate than i know what to keep on you your just great take care DONOTTAWAGUITAR

  • i'm applying as a transfer student. Aside from transcript from college from this year is everything the same?

  • I have a audition in Dec. I play the drums and I'm weak at reading music........is that goin to fuck me getting in......

  • I'm auditioning for guitar in December and, from what I've heard, the sight-reading exercises are just used to place you in the right class assuming you get in. I'm terrible at reading as well...

    Good luck!

  • That's definately me!

  • This is interesting. I have a question (more answers the better) about the audition. How exactly do you make an appointment for when they are doing the tour, going around to different cities? I would be auditioning in Memphis - how would I set it up to where I would be auditioning in that city?

  • go to the website and apply, its a long process, but once you've applied you'll get an email some time after that will give you an audition date, time and location. Warning, the audition could be located in Boston.

  • I saw on their site that you can still audition even if you are a non applicant. Thank you for your response - any information is extremely helpful.

  • Well, it's like any other music colleges or conservatories. You apply for it by sending in your high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, essays and etc, then if they accept your application, Berklee will ask you a list of date and places that they will visit. You pick one and if you don't see Memphis on the list, you need to get to the closet audition place by yourself. Wish you a luck. from a Berklee student.

  • Wow, everything I need. Thank you!

    God Bless!

  • Those are some pretty weird comments TNJ..Roger Brown is a swindler. he steals millions from unsuspecting talentless hacks.

  • how so????

  • I am English and considering applying to Berklee as a post grad thing. It would be THE SCARIEST THING if I got in!!

  • It's really a great place. You may not like it, but that's a matter of personal preference.

  • It is my dream school now, and if I get in, I know that I'd make my time worthwhile, and I figure if you can't do that at ANY top notch music school, you either don't belong there, or you are too lazy. My advice to anyone is to go to Boston and see it for yourself if you are thinking of attending. Don't listen to what morons like whatisthescore are saying and actually go see it for yourself, or find current students, or accredited alumni to talk to via email, on the street, or on facebook.

  • But singling out Berklee and calling it a scam and then promoting MSM, NEC, or even THE NEW SCHOOL!! ... You need to take a look at the bigger picture. All of them are financially a rip off. And there's nothing anyone can do about it. if everyone boycotted colleges, which wouldn't happen in the first place, we might make progress, but it's not going to be like that. Anyway, before I write a book, whatisthescore, you really have no clue if you say you wasted your time at berklee.

  • Berklee is there to provide everyone with the tools they need

to be an ARTIST and this is up to the student. Of course

not everything you say is blatently wrong. College, in general, not

just Berklee or MSM or Harvard, is a scam. College in America has

become a business, and we all have to just face that fact. Sure, by

attending Berklee you may pay a little extra a year over another

school, but you won't make nearly as many CONNECTIONS that will be

    valuable after graduation.

  • I think it's pretty ignorant for you to say that 4000 students

are conned by going to Berklee. I think that everyone that goes to

Berklee is given an equal shot at making the best of the whole

experience, and of course, those who do not have what it takes to make

that push towards breaking creative boundaries, might not make it in a

further musical career... But here's the kicker. It's on THEM, not

    Berklee.

  • I truly felt comfortable for the first time

in all the college visits. The friendly admissions staff treated me

like I had known them for years, the student tour guides gave

individual pointers about the school. Overall, I felt like i had more

motivation to strive towards these seemingly unreachable goals of

attending one of these big name schools. I feel like Berklee IS in

fact a place for people like me and not just all the super giants of

    music.

  • So i would have to say that all but the New School are making a decent

effort to improve facilities. In all of my visits, I found that the

most helpful school (staff, faculty, students, and whoever I may have

talked to) was Berklee. Between the 1 hour information session, the

separate 2 1/2 hour tour, and all the hanging around I did since I

stayed at the Hilton on Dalton (literally right behind Berklee), I got

    all my questions answered.

  • Every building stunned me, especially the BPC. I prefered this over the New

School in that they have buildings that require either a 14+ block

walk (or subway ride). I also liked NEC's facilities, though they

were a bit too classically oriented in my opinion (simply because I'm

into the jazz degree). NEC has spent the whole summer renovating ALL

of their buildings, which are located about 2 blocks down Mass Ave

from Berklee and are also all located within a block of each other.

  • Also at MSM, the whole school is very clean

cut, quiet, and overall an amazing community (all now inside one

interconnecting building). I'll skip over Temple and WPU for now and

go to Berklee. My favorite of all the schools in terms of facilities

was Berklee. The Back Bay section of Boston Berklee is located is

simply a prime spot for a school. The way the buildings are spread

out, but still reasonable close (within a block), thrilled me.

  • Of all these schools, the order I put them in is: Berklee,

MSM, NEC, WPU, The New School, and Temple. The facilities issue you

brought up about nine months ago is totally wrong. By far, the New

School has the worst facilities. They have about 20 practice rooms and

aren't expanding (partly because of the lower part of Manhatten, there

is nowhere to expand to). MSM's facilities are tremendous. I

talked to students there have never had an issue finding practice rooms (they say).
