Greetings from Portland Oregon, I just saw your work its amazing. I'm currently enrolled in Oregon U, working on my degree in Fine Art's with my major being Ceramics. I noted in your video you attached "Spun Sugar" on as handles, How does this hold up to the heat in the kiln? I love the idea but I see it as melting at those temps. Also will you be coming to Seattle Washington next month for NCECA it would be thrilling to meet you and see your work. Best Melanie
please pardon my ignorance but can you please tell me what porcelain is I mean, does it come in a powder of some kind that you make into a kind of dough, how is it made?
@missdarcy321 hello Porcelain is made from ground up pieces of rock or minerals. Kaolin feldspar they are grinded until they become a powder and they are mixed with a form of clay. The mixture is then heated to over 1400 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hotter than volcanic lava! .. the mix i use has a secret ingredient and ths mix i use takes 12 weeks to mature before i can use it for making baskets and flowers thanks brian
the 3rd firing is for the painting i underglaze the leaves and do a final painting in the 3rd firing for detail like shading etc thank you for your comments i only make about 10 a year slan anois brian
Really lovely! I would be so afraid to brake it! Thanks for showing how it's done! Greetings from Uppsala, Sweden! //Ann
