Even if you say Light is really smart. His plans are so flawed. Number 1 rule is always have plans B to D. By this I mean putting a deathnote page in sakugo's ass. There is so many different plans he could do. Killing people with this power can so easily be kept secret. I loved the anime, but there is so many loop holes. But I guess his downfall was his ego. Always thinking hes one step ahead of everyone else.

Actually to be fair, I believe Light WAS smart enough to tell Mikami to keep a few spare pages (When evaluating his previous performance). He even KNEW that Near was going to replace it, so it doesn't make sense for why he would not keep a few spare notes. I mean, he gave many of the previous supporters who were a part of his plans spare notes as a strategy, why did he change such a flawless strategy now? It's a simple answer, really; it's a story, and unfortunately Light was supposed to die. :(

@Valakrie i think Light have grown to Over Confident of his plan, he was REALLY believing he was a god, and he was using another strategy: he tought Near wouldn't find out that Mikami's Death Note was Fake (and that he had the real one hidden) but Near found the Death Note, and replaced it with a fake one, so Mikami tought he was Writing in the real Daeth Note.

But i think that what really killed Light was the fact that he claimed his victory to soon, and that Mikami called him God.
