Mazda was trying to make the car easier for JOE driver to get behind the wheel and not a wheel man. The Z is a very nice car as is the RX8.

Unfortunate for Mazda that they only car afford to put 3 developers on the new RX model where they have tons more on the other models. The Shinari Concept premiered last year so we could be looking at a new RX model by 2013-2014. A new 1.6L is being developed aka the Sky Rotary motor. Check out Mazda USA for info.

These are my two favourite cars. I personally would buy the Rx8.. but i wouldn't leave it stock. Notice the slide on the 350Z around corners.. The Rx8 would win if it had an engine just as powerful. Get a nice Euro style low nice clean looking bodykit ... and the rx8 looks like a 100k car ;).
@YouAreGoingToLose Good comment regarding the RX8, I had mine for a couple of years and just moved it last month. It was a great car and handled as good as anything out there, economics determined we ( my wife and I ) went back to one car so my RX8 had to go.
To be honest as much as I loved that car it was a good move, high octane gas is required, 94 octane at Chevron, 1.49 ( Can. ) per litre, gas mileage was bloody awful and if anyone tells you they got better than 15-18 mpg thats bullshit !

@jeanmunn I do get better then 18 hwy, I get about 20-22 driving to work at 60mph on 495N. When I drive mixed country roads and Hwy I get an avg of 16.8-17 mpg. I allow the car to reach high rpms with out lead footing it to keep carbon out of the motor. But I agree most people will get lower more like 13-15mpg because they don't keep up on the coils, plugs, etc.. and they keep their foot barred in the pedal, and race off every stop light...

Either way the 2006 rx8 was around 3k pounds, the 2006 350z is listed between 3200 and 3600 on wikipedia(coupe or roadster, not sure?). The rx8 made 232 bhp with 160 tq and about 180-190whp. The 350z made 300bph and 260 tq, not sure of whp but maybe around 260-270? So if its only 200 pounds heavier and 90hp and 100 tq more I think the Z shoulda got it off the line.
i don't understand... the z beats the rx-8 in the straight line and in the twisties but just because the rx-8 is "softer" and one driver gives it a vote makes it the winner? biased much?
It all comes down to not knocking the other car, Nissan has a great reputation and have been building top class automobiles for many years.
So price comparison, let's take todays market, the average price difference between a 350Z and a RX8, GT both with comparable mileage and same year of course is around ten thousand dollar.
I could never agree that a 350Z car against car was ever worth ten grand more than a RX8, a bit heavier on gas someone said,,,,how much fucking gas can you buy for 10g.
Okay you want to compare,,here we go,,as far as handling the Mazda wins that one by miles, Nissan has the torque but then again it's got a six cylinder engine. extras and finish ( I'm comparing my RX8 which is a GT model ) Mazda wins by far for finish and extras.
I test drove both cars long before I bought, I could have bought either one, the Mazda was loaded with high end extras and I felt the bucket seats were more comfortable especially on a longer trip. What was huge was price,,next post.
@siverside No shit... Z has a 3.5L engine stock while the STi only has a 2.5L. Z has almost as much power as the STi stock already, it's just that the STi's AWD gives it a large acceleration advantage. If the Z is twin turbo'd I'd expect it to be way faster as the larger engine gives it much more potential. But stock vs stock the STi still wins and that is what matters.
@siverside A quick search on Wikipedia will tell you STi runs 305hp stock and 350z is 306hp stock. STi has 290ftlb of torque while 350z only have 268. The STi, therefore, has a way faster acceleration due to higher torque and because of its AWD system. Not to mention that 350z is heavier than the STi when fully loaded. Those numbers really don't mean much, as the thing that makes the most difference is STi's AWD system.
@siverside its not about HP bro.. there are allot of things that are important.. traction is one of them.. the weight is second.. etc. etc. sorry, but the rex (specialy the GC8) are much faster.. and whats even more important is that they are faster in any condition and on any surface.. snow, wet, gravel.. its faster 365days in a year.. not just when it is warm and dry and chicks are looking:D

I'm sure you can put whatever you want on your car and it'll make it faster, but I have been talking about stock all this time. Still does not matter whether its 2.0 or 2.5 it's AWD system makes it faster and like you said the horsepower doesn't matter.
@sushlet The STI is faster to a certain point due to the awd. Anywhere above 100mph, a well driven 07+ Z will start catching up and walking away. Their top end is strong.
@ambientflier I can agree with that, but the difference will still be marginal. I expect quite a while before the gap closes and a quarter mile would have ended way before the Z catches up. The reason for doubt is that their power and weight are too similar...

I just tested out both of these cars. the RX8 has 2 more seats, and the interior seemed much nicer, but after driving them and coming back to the showroom, i took the Z that was £500 more expensive. i dont know why, i just preffered it.

@AdrenaleeT granted you did say it was fake, but i can be proved wrong. the gallardo's tiny 5 litre v10 buitl to the max couldnt produce that much power. engine swap? no room for the huge 600 plus ci engine needed to go plus monster transmission. gallardos dont have solid axles, they have independent supensions and cv shafts which arent cappabble of holding the power. the alluminum alloy frame would twist into a pretzel. the tiny twin radiators mounted in front wouldnt cool it so in short wrong

My RX8 JDM is 247 @ flywheel (suprisingly as advertised) and around 210-212 @ wheels.
Also weighed at 2912lbs
I have ~60,000miles on the engine
Keep in mind it is a JDM Type-S model so I guess EU + US get screwed with all the extra crap that make the car heavier.

Most people dyno in the range of 190-192whp stock with the 231 models.
JDM can go a bit higher due to different CO2 emm. restrictions / we got different cats and the stock ecu map is different etc.

im pretty sure the reason the Rx-8 passed the 350 in the beginning is because the rx8 is made from aluminum, now dont quote me from this but im pretty sure thats the only reason people bought that car.

There were more reasons people bought the car. I know when I go car shopping I am not looking at weights of them lol.
Either way the 2006 rx8 was around 3k pounds, the 2006 350z is listed between 3200 and 3600 on wikipedia(coupe or roadster, not sure?). The rx8 made 232 bhp with 160 tq and about 180-190whp. The 350z made 300bph and 260 tq, not sure of whp but maybe around 260-270? So if its only 200 pounds heavier and 90hp and 100 tq more I think the Z shoulda got it off the line.

It all comes down to not knocking the other car, Nissan has a great reputation and have been building top class automobiles for many years.
So price comparison, let's take todays market, the average price difference between a 350Z and a RX8, GT both with comparable mileage and same year of course is around ten thousand dollar.
I could never agree that a 350Z car against car was ever worth ten grand more than a RX8, a bit heavier on gas someone said,,,,how much fucking gas can you buy for 10g.

Okay you want to compare,,here we go,,as far as handling the Mazda wins that one by miles, Nissan has the torque but then again it's got a six cylinder engine. extras and finish ( I'm comparing my RX8 which is a GT model ) Mazda wins by far for finish and extras.
I test drove both cars long before I bought, I could have bought either one, the Mazda was loaded with high end extras and I felt the bucket seats were more comfortable especially on a longer trip. What was huge was price,,next post.

@siverside No shit... Z has a 3.5L engine stock while the STi only has a 2.5L. Z has almost as much power as the STi stock already, it's just that the STi's AWD gives it a large acceleration advantage. If the Z is twin turbo'd I'd expect it to be way faster as the larger engine gives it much more potential. But stock vs stock the STi still wins and that is what matters.

@siverside A quick search on Wikipedia will tell you STi runs 305hp stock and 350z is 306hp stock. STi has 290ftlb of torque while 350z only have 268. The STi, therefore, has a way faster acceleration due to higher torque and because of its AWD system. Not to mention that 350z is heavier than the STi when fully loaded. Those numbers really don't mean much, as the thing that makes the most difference is STi's AWD system.

@siverside its not about HP bro.. there are allot of things that are important.. traction is one of them.. the weight is second.. etc. etc. sorry, but the rex (specialy the GC8) are much faster.. and whats even more important is that they are faster in any condition and on any surface.. snow, wet, gravel.. its faster 365days in a year.. not just when it is warm and dry and chicks are looking:D

@sushlet power is not all.. yes.. u can install a turbokit on the Z.. but u can put a bigger turbo in to the rex:D and this rex is a 2.0T:D not 2.5.. 2.5s are hawkeye models and up.. (in EU)

@asimoVT I have already mentioned that power is just numbers. You still cannot deny that stock for stock, no matter which generation, that the STi is faster than the Z. Is that so hard to understand? I'm sure you can put whatever you want on your car and it'll make it faster, but I have been talking about stock all this time. Still does not matter whether its 2.0 or 2.5 it's AWD system makes it faster and like you said the horsepower doesn't matter.

@sushlet The STI is faster to a certain point due to the awd. Anywhere above 100mph, a well driven 07+ Z will start catching up and walking away. Their top end is strong.

@ambientflier I can agree with that, but the difference will still be marginal. I expect quite a while before the gap closes and a quarter mile would have ended way before the Z catches up. The reason for doubt is that their power and weight are too similar...

@siverside if the Z was a twin turbo, it would probably lose again.. far less weight and more traction is a killer combination.. in a longer drag strip it would be a different song, but.. i love both cars.. even the rx8. its a nice looking sports car with an special engine.. love all 3 cars. wait.. ilove more that this 3.. the rx7 is cool to! and the GTR.. i love it! end the EVO, and the MPS.. dude.. there are so many cars:D who really cares what is faster.. there is a car for anyone:D

I just tested out both of these cars. the RX8 has 2 more seats, and the interior seemed much nicer, but after driving them and coming back to the showroom, i took the Z that was £500 more expensive. i dont know why, i just preffered it.
if your a real petrolhead, you buy a car on how it makes you feel and forget about practicallity and slight cost differences. someone who buys a car on its spec or top gear test track lap time damands no respect from me as a driving enthusiast

@AdrenaleeT granted you did say it was fake, but i can be proved wrong. the gallardo's tiny 5 litre v10 buitl to the max couldnt produce that much power. engine swap? no room for the huge 600 plus ci engine needed to go plus monster transmission. gallardos dont have solid axles, they have independent supensions and cv shafts which arent cappabble of holding the power. the alluminum alloy frame would twist into a pretzel. the tiny twin radiators mounted in front wouldnt cool it so in short wrong

It s true the 8 has the best ride but power wise it go's to the z. The z after a road trip will have u feeling like u just got whipped by a UFC fighter lol. I have never had more fun on a road trip than I did in my 8.
