  • It is like I am transported into an era, far removed from the post-modernism paradigm into a tumultous age...

  • It is very impressive to see how priority is given to emotions, the score being a friendly guide rather than a dictator.

  • ahh this'll do very good for my assignment :)

  • I was in the back off an overturned warthog firing an M41 when the masterchief threw his grenade. We fought on because the chief still fought

  • "A hero is more than a person, a hero is a belief. A belief that, against impossible odds, the world can be saved—and that the world is still worth saving. Heroes inspire that belief in us. They renew our faith and give us that most precious of all gifts—hope. The world needs heroes. That's why, when a true hero arrives, the world will honor him."

If it were not for Halo 3, I would never have heard this great melody.

  • The age of piano when players possessed character rather than notions of conformism. We can even detect it through the roll, imagine if we could hear the actual sound.

  • Such fantastic sound in the Grandpiano,,,,I hope its till in use today.

  • I really like this.. This version of it is amazing! Thanks for the post.

  • Fantastic piece. First time hearing it from the Halo 3 ad, certainly a beautiful choice to use this piece for that "Believe" commercial, really made me feel a bit sad inside.

  • I really wish they wouldve put this in "The Pianist". The other songs were spectacular though

  • beautiful

  • This would be my music homework... what fun. :/

  • I much prefer the faster pace, and have a wonderful recording that is just the way I like it on a compilation CD. This is the closest recording I've been able to find on YouTube to what I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, I think it still misses the mark a bit. It starts to get muddled down mid-way through.

However, this prelude still goes down as my favorite piece of music - any genre - of all time. Haunting.

  • i like the tempo, but these accords from 3:30 have to be FORTE!!!!

  • where did you find this roll, i've been looking all over to no avail

  • this feels so hyperactive to me, definitely not how I like it.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn is a PERVERT and a QUEER, given he takes singing lessons and yoga and has failed political ideas. He says he is from the USA, but his Flickr site puts him in Sri Lanka. See his photo album, he IS definitely from Sri Lanka. Click on his name and see his YouTube site and his pervertion. He is a LIAR, a FAKE and a WEB TROLL. Click on his name above and you will see all of his PERVERTED posts! No doubt he is an orphan bastard who thinks the CAP KEY gives him power, the pervert.

  • @Tachsman WTF does that have to do with this song/video?

  • go halo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • I prefer the slower verson, it works for me, helps me wonder of in my own little world :)

  • By the way this is a piano roll so is not the real Busoni O.o

  • Best interpretation i ever heard. You can actually fell the thunderstorm from this.

  • Chopin sadly died in 1849 so this could not have been composed in 1923 :/

  • @510Beth

It says Busoni played this in 1923 not that it was composed in 1923...though I agree with Killingppl I don't think this is truely Busoni playing

  • @RannarDS Yes, i think the sound is too clean to be a recording near a hundred years old. But who cares? I like the way it is played.

  • @javierleonenriquez it is off a piano roll, its the antique version of a midi recording... pretty much you put it on any piano you want and it will play it back so... this has been done to many famous composers recordings of famous works, such as the ravel piano rolls and gershwin piano rolls...

  • @510Beth

even worth tihs iz a Halo 3 tune , who wuz out in 2007 so how could it be recorded in 1923 ? Xbox music theft iz srs businss.

    Sadly.

    Lulz

  • thumbs up for music GCSE!! :D

  • Believe

  • I just can't shake the feeling that the left hand is playing kinda weak, especially in a song whose left hand chords are so essential.

  • awesome just awesome

  • This is music

  • how to make it at DDD sound from AAD??

  • 0:43 oh my soul...now I know why I must practice practice practice.

  • it should be slower it sounds too rushed

  • @redrevolution129 i kno, i was shocked that this was how it was supposed to be played, but the dynamics with the pedals are perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @redrevolution129 where doing this peace as part of my music exam and its soposed to do that. I cant rember the tearm for it, but well the exam we got told was it would be out of beats like doing 5/4 in a 4/4 bar to make it even out you would have to slow it down in a few bars time. Same for if its slow you will have to catch up later on :P Sorry if iv lost you but well im still learning it myself :D

  • @forevershire ...tempo rubato?

  • Don't like it.

  • I actually prefer it slower

  • THIS IS FROM HALO!!!!!!!!! lol jk i love the song though

  • too much rubato

  • Busoni was born 15 years after Chopin died so he would not have seen Chopin play - Horowitz's rendition is okay, perhaps if there is an earlier recording that would be great. I liked a Copeland rendition the best - unable to locate it now

  • very expressive - however - just a bit too sloppy for my taste.

the art is: to play the raindrop through-out the piece consistantly

    without making it sound monotinous

  • just listened to Horowitz' interpretation before and find Busoni's warmth and

dramatic tempo changes to my liking.

  • is this sped up?

  • too soft in the middle section

  • Does someone know where I can get sheet music for prelude 15 for free?

  • Look up "imslp" on Google, then go to the Petrucci Music Library. You can find virtually any piece by any public domain composer there for free.

  • @sniper2073 Thanks.

  • I can listen to this amazing poem non stop..

  • *Nice.* Perfect tempo. Thank you for sharing!

  • Ah yes! someone who plays a bit faster :P i find it sounding better when it is played a bit faster. Since everyone plays it is such SLOOOW pace it just gets booring.. but thats my opinion

  • @0blacone:

Yeah variety is nice. I like it both ways, and in-between. It's nice that different people play it different ways though, gives us something for every mood. =)

  • @AnotherSchmoe every performer have his style and that makes him/her different, mendelssohn was a great chopin performer beacause of the feeling and almost always tryed to speed down the pieces and that makes him different from busoni or horowitz, but in any way, i think we share the same though "THANK GOD FOR THIS PIANO PLAYERS AND COMPOSERS!!"

  • @nergal666 any how this might be the most true version of Chopin since Busoni actually heard Chopin playing it.

  • People commenting saying he needs to slow down? people, it's Busoni, if you don't like the speed and you want a true to the score edition, what are you doing here?

  • I love this piece.

  • guys really?..c'mon really nice piece of music and you're flooding the comments with this stuff?...

  • wow cant we all just get along?

  • to orlandirafael: check out alfredo perl's rendition. it's a personal favorite of mine.

  • I really don't appreciate this version. Busoni was a great master, but this version don't pleases me too much. I think Horowitz version make the song more intense.

  • Sounds like he accidentally threw in an extra note at 0:42. =P

Great recording though, maybe a tad on the fast side for some people but I enjoy the variety between different performers. I mean how boring would it be if everyone played the same pieces the exact same way, like robots? I like variety and this guy did a great job playing it IMO.

  • This gives me the goosebumps just listening to it

  • I personally like the darker part dragged out. I think he should have accented the lower notes more than he did in some of the parts (at the begining of the dark part of the piece), but overall it was really good.

  • This was suppose to resemble a rainstorm, what can you expect. It is sort of like the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, each part resembles the 4 seasons.

  • excelent chopin, una obra maestra.

i listened it when i was teen, i have goods remembers

  • this is amazing, and beautiful

  • Please don't tell us about your masturbation techniques.

  • What language are you trying to speak?

  • You don't even know what language you're trying to speak? Man, you're really stupid.

  • You can't even spell "asshole." What an asshole!

  • Well, apparently "asshole" is beyond your spelling capability.

  • Spelling is too hard for you. Grammar is beyond you.

Ignaro.

  • Yo pensaba que usted nunca se equivocaba. ¿Podría señalar dónde me contradigo?

  • I enjoy this interpretation's sense of yearning.

  • Hi, I suspect that Busoni might have played this fast to fit it onto one side of a 78 rpm record. That could explain the speed. But I actually prefer this speed. But it was also done on a piano roll to sell to those who had the Player pianos. I think you might not have got the -4 red thumbs down, if you'd left out the f word.. It doesn't add anything to your comment, but who the f*#k am I to say that?!

  • yea he does need to slow the fuck down

  • This is the way people should interpret, adding their own spice and imagination. Too bad mediocrity never accepts the brilliance of truth and genius. Hell, after listening to all these interps of Busoni, I think I might just add some spice to Rachmaninoff Prelude Op 23 No 5.

  • arent there some mistakes? iama playing the prelude too... maybe he just changed some things... some parts sound wrong...

  • I don't know for sure as I don't have the score to read, but I think it may be possible that he omitted some bars so as to fit into the time format of 78 records. or that this was the first and second sides of a 78 which was edited for this. That said, I much prefer this faster version to that of Perl at 6.38 minutes. As to sounding wrong - as in mistakes - I doubt it. Busoni was one of the greatest ever, music historians agree. Sorry about your 2 thumbs down;you don't deserve that.

  • nobody beats him on this one..

  • Why does everyone get so upset about things? There are quite few recordings of Busoni playing. They are not rare and it's no big deal. The reasons that have been given are not justified.

    Thanks for posting.

  • This rendition is very inaccurate, he skips notes and add some others, OMG.

  • i think it is sad that classical music is neglected so that it is sooner recognized from a video game than as the piece it is -not sayins its wrong or evil, just that it's sad. Its worth so much more than that

  • Why is it sad? There is nothing sad about it. I am happy it is getting recognized and for Bungie including it in their game. There is far more music that is neglected because frankly no one can listen to everything; Du Phly, Brumel, Cima ... ever heard of them? That goes for anything in the world: art, math, physics ... there is beauty everywhere but no one can know or need to know everything.

  • its sad cos people relate it with Halo before they relate it with the genius who was liszt

  • Liszt? Don't you meen Chopin?

  • sorry - brainlapse

  • Will, after your speech on how sad it is to be associated with a game instead of, in your words, the "genius" you didn't even know Chopin was the composer and then tried to make an excuse.

I for one think it is great that it was in the Halo 3 commercial, it just shows how music from hundreds of years ago can still be used in modern tv. Plus, its letting alot of teens out there hear some classical music and maybe spark and interest. (I'm only 18 myself, although Classical is all i listen to)

  • Course I knew chopin was the composer lol..I've played this many a time

brainlapse, seriously now, don't argue. That comment I wrote at like 3in the morning UK time Do BlessedSpirit's never make mistakes? and 18 is old. wayy Older than I am anyway.

I never said if it was good or bad that it was in the halo commercial, I said that it was SAD how it was sooner recognized as "the music from halo" than as a chopin prelude. Chopin would shit himself...

  • Yes. He would definetly soil his trousers. Then, rub it on the person who called his piece "that song from Halo" xD

  • Don't forget Eternal Sonata! = D

  • NINTENDO SIXTY FOUR!!!!!!!

  • i thought that was too fast. it lost the dramatic effect. only 4:46. wow.

  • what the fuck ??

This is fake for god sake.

It's has errors, and there's no have the correct emotion in some parts. The E major chords its more powerful...

    FAKE FAKE FAKE.

  • I concur. I have a recording of the Duo Art rolls and although Busoni did lower the second have of the "storm" by an octave, he did not make this many mistakes.

  • Probably not fake, but you're right about all the flaws in this rendition of the song.

  • the thing is if u watch all the halo live action interviews and stuff then it gets u hooked into the story line halo 3 and mgs4 have the best story lines ever

  • halo has no storyline you are a plebeian

  • have u read any of the books? no u havent so stfu. theres abunch shit they could talk about if u read the books asshole so dont say it has no story like

  • the books are nothing but lies.

  • i really don't know what halo has to even do with this so shut-up

  • This video is about Busoni and Chopin, not that fucking loser "Master Chief" or whatever the hell his name is...

  • This video is not about anything at all, elitist. Maybe you're obsessed with Chopin, or perhaps with Busoni (weirdo), but your interpretation of this video being here on the tubes is not universal, shut up. If I need to tell you this, you've already lost at life. And besides, if Halo gets people to listen to Chopin, how is that bad?

  • thx saints row cause this is on d Klassical station. when i heard it i realized it was from halo believe add. Then i bought it on in d in game music shop but i can only play it in saints row... 8(

  • its weird when i found out about this song i said pretty cool very tranquil next thing i know i go on halo 3's web i see this ad i was like woah! its also in eternal sonata again i was amazed

  • yea id always liked Chopin which made me play Eternal Sonata and for some reason it just made me hooked to this song.
