And yet he moves and speaks (intentionally I think) in the manner of a preacher offering eternal salvation. Objectivism has such a religious veneer (being based on American and Randian mythologizing). This is the movement's fatal flaw: if it's religion someone wants, it's too easy to find the real thing. Similarly, if it's philosophy someone wants.
I love this. So inspiring. I want everybody who doesn't understand, or who misrepresents Ayn Rand's ideas to see this and finaly get it through their thick skulls that her philosophy was one of life and justice, not "greed" or "heartlessness"
I hate hearing the little comments from the audience. Only because I understand why they do it, and that I would do it too, but it sadly has no significance :) oh well. All for the cause.
I find it ironic that the Christian right is the backbone of the republican party(vote). If it wasn't for the religious mysticism, the republican party would be able to get back on it's feet.
@pookiehohn There is nothing like celebrating 'diversity' than insulting someone else's beliefs by describing it as mysticism. I wonder if you save the same description for Islam or some other religion? Probably not because you are nothing more than someone who hates a particular religion.
people fail to realize that nationalism is 100% collectivist, anti-objectivist and anti-free market. this is what differentiates true free market supporters from those who feel like they need to protect 'american jobs'. a free market does not consist of a monopolized monetary system and border controls.
"free market does not consist of a monopolized monetary system and border controls."
Uh, Yaron Brook is not for protectionism, the federal reserve, or border controls. There's a video on this channel outlining his views on immigration policy.
His support of the US is because it is objectively good and not for collectivist reasons.
When the adjoining countries don't support the free market system, a border is a must to maintain the free market. That's why you make trade deals with countries that practice alternative economic systems.
If you want a country with free market capitalism and your neighbor doesn't practice free market capitalism then you don't have a level playing field do you. NAFTA is a joke and not what I was referring to.
Currently in the USA we are on the cusp of full blown Fascism. We left the Free Market Capitalism 100 years ago and now have regulation that stifles economic development via force and coercion.
I think he got quite a few good ones. Considering that they were at a dinner and eating and not out in the open pretesting with signs, I'd say that is about as loud as I would be too.
This is the party that wants prayer in schools, violating a woman's right to chose motherhood, creationism etc, etc. But what Dr Brook said had to be said and maybe some present , listened.
You really have it wrong here:Allowing prayer in the schools is different from FORCED pray in the school. None of the advocates for prayer in the schools I know of are for forced prayer, just the right to pray. It is the liberals who LIMIT the individual by forbidding prayer in the school.
In regard to teaching creationism, teaching a theory along with other theories is a reasonable thing; forbidding that theory to be presented as something to consider limits individual freedom.
government funded schools made this problem. if people were allowed to educate themselves instead of the US forcibly indoctrinating kids this wouldn't be an issue b/c people who wanted prayer in school would go to a school that had prayer and vice versa.
Socialist government owned schools are the real problem.
If you want to pray in school you can, but it cannot be institutionalized or advocated.
Creationism is not science. Science requires evidence to support what you say and it must withstand the scrutiny and rigorous examination by means of peer review. Creationism does neither.
Not teaching creationism in schools is not a violation of individual freedom, because in science your opinion must be backed up by evidence. But of course creationists are free to say what they believe.
If you want to pray in school you can, but it cannot be institutionalized or advocated.
Agreed, time set aside for it is fine, forcing it is absurd since if prayer is not voluntary it is not prayer--forced acts from free creatures are invalid acts.
I don't know what Creationism is except another theory among the changing theories of man; just another man-made metaphysic. But I do know nihilo ex nihilo. Since things exist there must have always been something and that thing, of its very nature, cannot be limited or bound by the constraints things are bound by which are extended in time/space.
If a theory posits a creator is is not anti-science; it is the work of metaphysics completing the work empirical observation is incompetent to do. Your thinking seems to set physics and metaphysics at odds--mine does not; they compliment one another and one completes the other.
Finally, if you think the state would be wrong in preventing the slaughter of unborn humans you probably think the state should not be able to prosecute people for murder of other humans, stealing and assault. There is a difference between laws against injuring others and laws that limit ones right to choose to start a business or whom to associate with or whom to hire or not to hire. Apples and oranges
So people that defend the right of women to control their own bodies are likely *in favor* of murder, rape, theft and coercion. I cannot imagine the mental backflips it takes to make that kind of connection.
People that defend the right of women to control their own bodies are "in favor" of them controlling their own bodies, BEFORE they create another one; another one that also has equal rights. In the 1850s the Supreme Court decided blacks were only 3/5 of a person. Absurd! The day will come when the decision that unborn babies are not persons will be seen for what it is: equally absurd. Abortion IS the taking of human life, INNOCENT human life and murder. Life's not just about YOU.
We need House, Senate, Presidential positions FILLED with people who think like Yaron Brook.
Only then can freedom be restored to the republic.
It is now controlled by the Sith.

Good job Yaron! The speech STYLE seems similar to those TV preachers, so I think Republicans (ala church goers) will be more likely to pay attention.
