  • Hey Aussie! Do you know what it was powering at Luna park? Or at least what you could imagine it being used for? Thanks mate

  • at 5:44 is the greenish thing next the engine the generator?

  • Comment removed

  • Oh Yeah... after the WWIII and Great EMP wars... this gorgeous girl will be reclaimed to power the early non-hybrid human satellite stations. From there, we will gain victory over the zombie hoards that will try and attack from the south.

  • at 00:18 you can see a prototerygote also know as "rods" fly through the video. i cant beleive that you got one on camera, there not that common.

  • Put that in a tank and you've got a power to weight ratio equivalent to that of a ferrari :D

  • What is the water supply about ?

  • @magna59 turbocharger cooling, the main block tubes are rusted out so cannot be used, hence the short runs.

  • Is this at Scoresby?

  • Its got a shocking miss.

  • legendary engine

  • sounds lovely

  • do you live in victoria dude

  • @roadwolf2 I am in Melbourne

  • @Aussie50 happy new year aussie

you know the best thing about Melbourne?

the sign which says Sydney 980km..!

  • beauty!

  • Did they ever get the water tube seals fixed?

  • @douro20 no, it needs to be moved into a proper shed for rebuild.

  • Well i've been looking for old engines like these to be put into emtpy locomotive as really soon with help start up a private freight & passger railway service... I like using the older engines due to there long lasting & beautiful sounds they make..

  • @GayBoyRunning ah okay, I am not sure where to get them from, members of engine clubs like the guy who has this one get newsletters for auctions on these things.

some times companies are just happy for sombody to haul them away (the blackstone next to this engine was a freebie)

he offered me one of these 6VEBX's from up state Victoria, but I don't have the space or concrete footings for such a thing.

  • @Aussie50 Do you have a video of the Blackstone engine ?

  • @GayBoyRunning nope :(, its governor is stuck.

  • @Aussie50 oh ok... but does it have a hp & torque display on it..?

  • @GayBoyRunning its around somewhere, I will look next time I am up there

  • nice sounding engine, though 540 turbo charged is incredibly under powered - i dont think 540 is accurate, the 9" bore naturally aspirated bmw engines were making 750HP

  • @epl0si0n yeah I think its a really old design they just bolted a turbo too, it does well enough for the alternator thats on it

  • Music - what a symphony.

  • @goinghomesomeday1 you can hear the cylinder compression or injection is a bit off but it makes it sound nice!

  • @Aussie50 -- I’d not know the difference as I have no experience with the Ruston engine. I worked mainly with Lister and Peters twin cylinder which drove a sludge pump.

Your Ruston get a second vote here from my wife! she remarked "what a lovely sounding engine it is"

    Regards

    G&C

  • @goinghomesomeday1 If the wife loves it, I'd say your the luckiest man on earth :D

  • What a beast! Thanks for the great demo of this engine. This video is a keeper!

  • @Hallaran the guy who owns it asked if I wanted one of these for myself, apaprently there is another available for salvage.

too big for me tho, nowhere to house it :(

  • sounds awesome!

  • Fantastic !! Good to see it in preservation , well done for keeping it out of the scrappys hands !!

  • @turboslag yeah, no way its going to waste!, one day it will get a full overhaul and work as a permanent generating set

  • sweet engine i wish i had a gen like that, nice sound, looks like it needs a tune up?

    geat vid Ben please reply

  • It is a awesome genset!

It does need a good overhaul, including block water jacket tubes, injectors, pump, rings etc..

but as a running display it still draws a crowd!

  • At least she still runs for her age!!! And once it gets its tune up it will be a great gen!!! I am just wondering How much fuel does it consume per hour. After you tune it up you should run it on Bio fuel or pure veg oil so it is better for the environment

    peace Ben PLEASE REPLY

  • I wouldn't ruin it by running waste oil in it, only fresh Diesel oil.

It does need a tuneup tho!

  • @Aussie50 bio diesel is just like diesel it just is greener and it is better for the engines parts.

    peace Ben

  • @Aussie50

What I understand it is an English motor, was it bought up or simply shut down ?

  • @johnsenkenn it is a English build engine!

the park was shut down if that is what you are asking?

  • Aah, there's nothing like turbo-whine to start the day ;)

  • Awesome engine, To bad it wasn't under load to really get that turbo screaming.

  • yeah, we need to repalce the water jacket seals first, then we can load up the alternator and get it howling

  • Im loving it! :) Reminds me of starting that 3-cyl Nohab diesel we had at school.

  • awesome machine. Is your camera lens dirty?

  • nah lens is fine, it was the sunlight in the wrong angle.

  • thats one sweet gen set, love the sound of that

  • man thats cool. reminds me of the old Blackstone's at the Melb art center. good sound quality i could feel it.lol. it chugging like that cant bee good for the turbo.

  • wow only 500 RPM? it must have a hell of a lot of torque! would make a nice sawmill engine!

  • holy balls thats a big turbo!

  • Sounds as if it's only firing on 2 cylinders, or maybe it's just the exhaust.

  • its firing on all 6 but the exhaust is deceptive, and one or more aren't 100%. she's overdue for a rebuild IMO.

  • that engine is just incredible!

  • oh yeah!, I've started it before and its a great experience!

  • Thats maddd! :D

  • Perfect for an alarm clock! :)

  • Fantastic!

Sounds like the old diesel loco's that I work on at the local heritage reailway!

  • yeah it would make a cool loco engine!

  • How many RPM ?

  • we had it up to 500 RPM, which is its max rated speed.

  • Sounds like an old locomotive engine with the turbo.

  • that is savage - you could power a small village easy with that -whats the fuel consumption like?

  • mmm, we started with a full 44 gallons, after 4 breif runs we had about 5 gallons left!

mind you fuel consumption would be better if it was just ran at a set speed.

  • gotta love the old turbocharger sound
