Also - in response to BGoldtone -I agree with you, such a versatile actor! (And let's not forget Double Indemnity). Edward G. played the best of good guys and the best of bad guys - never played middle of the road characters. Love to watch him. By the way - you all have got to see Larceny,Inc. - if you haven't seen it already - hilarious!
@BGoldtone great movie forrunner of all gangster movies. edward g very versatile, could play many types. the stranger, the sea wolf, larceny inc.,hole in the head.soyliant green was last movie. dick g.
With all the praise for Eddie G., let's not forget Glenda Farrell's especially good performance as Olga. Her greatest role was as the fast-talking reporter "Torchy Blaine" in a series of very popular action-adventure B movies in the 1930's. Jerry Siegel, co-creator of "Superman", said that he modeled the character of Lois Lane on Torchy Blaine. WOW, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!
The lawn's mowed... all the chores done...the missus is out getting her hair done.... time to kick back with a cold beer and a classic movie... nyeah!!!! Thanks for posting this gem!!!
i donohow u managed 1h vid but thanks u saved my ass!!! 4 cinema i cld not find this movie anywhere online and lol i go on youtube and ur ass has loaded it here!
It's weird, I've seen a ton of Fairbanks, Sr. movies and Jr. reminds me of him just a little in appearance. It's weird, like being on the edge of seeing some of his father in him, physically, but not quite. Very strange. The closest thing we got to Sr's personality, of course, later on was Burt Lancaster. But even Lancaster wasn't quite in Sr's league. Jr's good in this movie, though, although his father would've been totally different, of course.
@funnycookbook Lucille LaVerne (Ma Magdalena) was famously known for her voice as the Queen / Apple Hag in disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Ma's physical appearance was also caricaturized for the Hag's appearance.
THE GODFATHER of its era....with dialogue of "tell them they can go to---"...and Robinson as trigger happy as Joe Pesci in GOODFELLAS or Al Pacino in SCARFACE remake.
...this movie was radical stuff, coming a few years after silent movies....even the cornball dancer is based on the real Legs Diamond...
this and PUBLIC ENEMY plaed a lot on 1970s nyc tv stations....the origonal SCARFACE seems to have disappeared till '80s cable tv.
@Palsharpton james cagney was terrible as lon chaney in MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES....and bw photography also helped cagney a lot---he had bright red hair.
robinson worked past cagney's retirement, right up to SOYLANT GREEN---robinson and heston were the best things about that 70s movie.

Chief Wigham from "The Simpsons." Robinson's superb in this, the performance rings down through eight decades and counting.
