Is this book a balanced and thorough analysis of introversion, or is it just a feel-good, self-esteem booster for introverts who feel inadequate? Because that's kinda how it's being marketed.
@CountBifford That is my impression also, based on the marketing and comments...more pop culture.
I am presently in a five story "World Class" University Library. It won't be long before someone cuts-loose with a cell phone, bag of chips or what have you. The second floor is dominated by a coffee/snack bar deal. President of this University makes more than the Governor. World is not going to adjust to me; however, I wonder...this all intended to mask mediocrity?
Although you would never know it, a component part of my personality is introversion...I don't see it as defective at all. Those who can not remain essentially quiet are the one's with the defect, subjecting others to their private cell phone small talk in public places, playing their tech toys with out ear buds and so on.
I'm currently at a supposedly World Renowned University Library ( Cal Poly SLO Cal.) Distractions galore. Group Think? it's a daycare/Lounge. These distractions add up.
I'm an introvert. I find it interesting that we need research and a book to show us that it's OK and even advantageous to be an introvert. I wish that this was just common knowledge, but it isn't. I've struggled with this my whole life. Earlier in my life I did see myself as defective for being introverted.
@nico3641 I have not read the book, evidently there is some sort of "growth group", group think aspect even to this book.
I do believe the amount and frequency of distractions in public places where one has a reasonable expectation of being accommodated is problematic...often a fee or tax is payed and for what? to be annoyed?
If this book is just another marketing ploy I won't read it. I will suffer in silence with my introversion issues.
This is awesome, Susan! Love the trailer. The release date is almost here! How exciting. I hope you do a meet and greet in L.A. My book is missing your autograph!!!
