No more morote gari in Judo in this times. Thats good 'cause with the morote gari Judo looks like wrestling, and Judo beauty is focused in throws like uchi-mata, ipon seogue nage and stuff like that
@jade3liphant i wrestled in college and morote gari an the traditional double leg are different. VERY different. things that look similar are not the same. i didnt take offense to you comment as i am aware that the eyes can only see what the mind can comprehend. ;) to you it looks like a blast double because quite honestly, thats what you see. however it is not.
morote gari basically = a blast double leg, it kinda seems like these people should just learn wrestling. I try to say this in the least offensive way possible, as even I want this dvd for a better morote gari
morote gari is now effectively banned from judo competition until at least 2012 Dec! Source: International Judo Federation "New rules for the period from 1/01/2010 to 31/12/2012" I think it's outrageous.
There is no such thing as an infallible technique. Don't inject survivor bias into the equation. Remember, you are talking about someone that ACTUALLY made the Olympic Team. I could use the same argument for the person that did NOT make the Olympic Team. Had they used Morote Gari, they could have possibly made the team. That argument isn't sound which is why I don't say that any technique will "MAKE YOU AN OLYMPIAN". I just show you the best ones out there to give you a good bang for your buck.
yes, yes, yes, it is a sound technique among many, but not infallible as Rhadi found out at his bid for an Olympic medal. Also, the junior bout in the video shows a highly overmatched kid...who appears to recieve a head injury from the throw. Note the countercoup forehead grab. Now there is something to avoid in a local shiai!
Thanks Rhadi great answer. I look forward to your video and slamming short guys with Morote Gari! You are right. The throw really can be an equalizer.
YES!! I will show you how anyone can do Morote Gari based upon the setup. That is a big misconception with Morote Gari. It's like saying that you can't do uchimata because you are short. Muneta does uchimata with no problem. Its all in how you set it up. But quite on honestly, I probably wouldn't encourage Teddy Riner to do Morote Gari, but he could definitely do it. And he does fight people who are his height and/or close to it.
well yes can u imagine an 6 ft person trying to curl "inside" u for an uchi mata? lol its silly when you're that big. Of course being so tall your stance had better be strong, or thats a 6 ft fall!
but ur using the same form to a hari goshi with uchi mata just need to get them onto your hip then massive drive up and around cant see the proplem my self well i dnt find a proplem with it at all
I have the same problem but I still love Morote Gari/Bahiana/Double Leg or whatever you want to call it. I hope this DVD will come out soon and don"t listen the tradicionalist judo guys out there because they are going to buy your DVD anyway.

Great throw from a great fighter! Too bad that he left this beautiful lifestyle (because judo is it) so young...

I think morote gari is banned in G.B for kids, along with sacrifice throws and drop knee techniques.

only tall people have difficulties with uchi-mata, because they are so tall! btw Uchi-mata is a basic white-belt level Judo move, basic but FUN!
shorter people have a huge advantage in Judo.
Morote Gari is considered a "suicide take-down" it just sets u up for the "guillotine" or "Tawara Gasehi" wayy to easily.
Train your legs to be strong in stance thats very important to maintain your balance.
"Strong like Tree" Sensei would always say.

uchi mata screams clock choke and taking the back more that morote gari screams guillotine it is a much higher percentage move.
