@ozone400 hey man you need to unlock "god mode" in windows 7, really u don't have to, to get the admin tools but it makes the control panel really beefed up and finding things on the pc is way ezer with this hidden mode built in win 7. get to know the registry it can be ur friend if u use it right :). many hidden things in win 7 unlocked in registry. happy tweaking!!! i have modded the hell out of win 7 in regedit.

You don't. You can use the Network Configuration. An equivalent service for Linux is sendmail, procmail etc.... Router's don't give you all the same IP, they show your computers as one computer, and give you the same *external* IP

Nice. This actually worked for me. You can actually test it on yourself by just sending a message to the ip your computer has and then it will pop up on the same computer.

You know that's your internal IP if someone knows it they can't do anything. Now if they know your external IP that's a different story. So no need to blur it out.(Unless both computer where hooked up to the modem directly but you said they were both connected to the router)

ok listen for vista users the messenger service is not installed as a default. go to Control

panel > Programs > Windows Features to install the "Microsoft Message Queue

(MSMQ) Server it should now show up in services

Technically, it works on either LAN or WAN but you'll be lucky if you ever find a computer with the required ports/services opened/active on Internet nowadays..

You can try IP 127.0.0.1 and send a message to your self.

First try typing:

net start messenger

If that doesn't work go to Start>>Run and type 'services' (no quotes). Scroll down until you find Messenger and double click it. Go to the 'startup type' drop down box and select automatic. Just below the drop-down box there should be a button titled 'start', click it, and then press ok.

After you've done that try it again on your network. If still it doesn't work, your net policy blocks it and you won't be able to use it.
