I finally found the song in this commercial (it may not be exact but it's damn close)
Das Rheingeld Vorspiel by Wiener Philharmoniker.
There are many variations and "artists" of the song and the title varies, but they all derive from the same song. It can be found on YouTube, iTunes, groovshark, etc.
Im seriously considering buying property in Braddock, I love the grittiness of the area. I've been a Pittsburgher my entire life and i love the raw feeling that the city projects to its residents. Its a no-bullshit, hard working, go forth and do-it-yourself kind of town. I'd love to take part in the re-settlement of braddock, not for profit, but because the opportunities are endless. What ran15206 see's as a dump, Mayor John, his residents, and I ... see as a raw beautiful canvas.
You'll see alot more towns like Braddock if Obama is re-elected. He continues to ship our jobs overseas while the only people making money are the fat cat union bosses which in turn donate that money back to Obama. What a crock the Occupy Wallstreet movement is when the Democrat Party who vocally supports them is in bed with Wallstreet. Corrupt bastards! George Soros, the convicted insider trader and currency manipulator is where your jobs and 401k's went.....Obama's top supporter!
Levi makes a gritty looking ad but underneath it is just another sugary take on the 'American dream'. Levi does not mention that corporations like itself are the problem and have impoverished and caused hardship to many once thriving communities. Take levi's closing of its factories in American towns such as San Antonio, Texas. Just look up Levi labour dealings in Wikipedia . Spending millions of dollars on an ad to buy a pair of 'mythical' Levi jeans made in Asia by cheap labour.
Braddock is a dump. The ad leads you to believe that it is out west on the plains. It is not it is in the Mon Valley. There are no long vistas of flat land. The neighborhoods around Braddock are doing fairly well but for some reason not Braddock.
@ran15206 Have you even spent a day in Braddock? Do you know any of the people? Have you talked to them? Your statement does more harm than good and seems to be just a negative statement thrown in the wind. Every scene in the ad is of Braddock. There is so much potential there, but you're here spewing venom.
@TheyCallMeTruth00 Yes i have been to Braddock and spent lots of time there. I live very close to Braddock. Why is it that every place around Braddock is doing much better than Braddock? You are here spewing lies about what a great place it is. It is a dump.
@ran15206 I think you really need to come down to Braddock and say those things to the people that live and work there and maybe learn some things from people who really know what Braddock is and the work that is being done there. Calling a place where human beings live a dump only says something about your character...not the people there. If you have a criticism, maybe try to voice it with a little more eloquence.
Manufacturing Levi's in China saddens me. I feel we are giving away our lifestyle, our heritage and we are losing ourselves far to soon in our history.
@typeash Think you'll find it on the soundtrack of The New World by James Horner - the whole style of the commercial is reminding me of that movie and the music is definitely the same
I read an interview with the CEO of Levi's...When asked about closing every plant in the USA he stated that Americans don't really care where the jeans are made..Yes this commercial is touching with its music and the kid narrating..But I think Levi's is a crap company for slinging out such propaganda..They are guilty of exactly what this commercial is about..Industry leaving town to go overseas so CEO can fill pockets with obscene amounts of money..Disgusting
Braddock already has jobs. The US Steel plant never left Braddock, and the town is only 8 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, which has some of the lowest unemployment in the nation. However, that didn't stop the people from leaving Braddock, which is part of the reason it's in the state it is now. People just didn't want to live there, for whatever reason.
@pianonotes1010 It's ripped straight from Terrence Malick's The New World. Even the style of cinematography and editing, and the voice-over is very VERY reminiscent of that film.
you may laugh but i have been thinking off making a factory in the US for quite some time now, now i am no millionaire just an american who wants to bring pride back to his nation, Braddock is defiently the best place i would put it.
i keep wondering why my ees tear up everytime i see this commerical.....i now know..
There are hundreds of Braddocks all over America and we need to put down the remotes, video game controllers, cell phones, iPads, blackberrys and what-have-yous and get back to work! This country is worth saving.”
@hawkins08 i guess they should have had lil wayne right? Some pop culture icon that is mass produced and churned out every other month. that would really bring the commercial full circle
i spent many thanksgivings in Braddock with a Grandmother who was proud to call it home and relented having to leave due to her failing mind. Braddock, there is nothing you can't not achieve; so please don't listen to the FOOLS who say otherwise. Pessimism is one thing; sitting around, making excuses, and having a "No" attitude is the greater catastrophe.
braddock needs torn down and started over again, more than half the buildings are not salvageable, this commercial is not going to help progress braddock, a ghetto is a ghetto thats all
... but not all is bad. Levi's is donating over a million dollars to the Borough of Braddock to help jump start the new vision of the mayor and the people.
I grew up right across the river, and I never thought in a million years Braddock would ever be the focal point of a line of advertising. After the Mon valley built America everybody abandoned it, it's nice to see national attention, even if it's 25 years too late. Although I won't buy Levi's unless they are manufactured in the U.S. again, I commend them for making this commercial. Well done.
@WhiteAbenaki To all who say this is a rip-off of Terrence Malick, I'd say the more appropriate description would probably be "homage." The ad was directed by John Hillcoat, an Australian director who has made The Proposition and The Road. He has obviously been influenced by Malick in his other work, and using his style here is no doubt explicitly giving tribute to one of his heroes.
I didn't know it was done by that guy, although I know the Proposition is a fantastic movie and I've heard the Road is not. But an homage is not supposed to be identical with differences merely in the specifics. That is what this is.
Also, this isn't good. The script and delivery are pretty lame. Which makes it even worse as an homage, if that's its aim.
Wow. If I were Terrence Malick I would sue the shit out of them, not that he could likely win anything. They literally seemed to find someone who sounds just like Q'uorianka Kilcher (sp?) from The New World and overlaid her on top of Das Rheingold, just like in The New World. Humph.
@toReasonWhy Did you not understand the meaning of the ad idiot. Its about restoring a town and people in it. They don't give a shit about the song or where its from, and the person narrating is a ten year old girl from Braddock. I'm sure they got legal approval to use the song.
Of course I know what they're trying to say in the ad, but clearly you don't understand what they actually said. You were sold hook line and sinker by this faux poetic trash. Obviously levi's doesn't give a shit where the song comes from, that was exactly my point. It's not that they're not genuine, it's that they pretend to be genuine. It sways idiots like you. Tho maybe that's not a bad thing.
Oh, and they don't need approval to use Das Rheingold, it's long been out of copyright.
@toReasonWhy Then why are you whining about them using or copying the song? Why am I an idiot? I can't like a commercial and its message because it does not follow your ideas of what is genuine? Nothing is. You are a presumptuous moron who probably thinks your smarter then everyone, and probably can't hold a conversation because of that fact. Of course is been long out of copyright its been around longer then Malick's film, so why are you complaining?
Why are you an idiot? I don't know that you're an idiot, I was presuming, as you have clarified is part and parcel of my character, and plus I was using stupid ad hominem to respond to yours, which seems to be your only tool for discussion, as you just used it a second time. Yet I'm the one who can't speak to people... buh? Or didn't you notice that you called me an idiot first?
Of course most ads are bullshit. That's a given. I don't mind so much that an ad's function is to sell you something, nor that they use insincerity to do it. I mind when to do this they employ direct artistic theft. It creates a false idea of what art is and who should be given credit for it.
If you truly believe nothing is genuine, then I'm sorry, your life must be pretty heartless. But I imagine that like most people, your life isn't heartless, and I doubt you really believe that.
I grew up in this part of PA and I really admire the hard work and sincere vision of Mayor Fetterman, this man is determined to put this place back on the map and I think the LEVI campaign is quite an acquisition on his part and I truly salute LEVI for their involvement and contribution.
I live in SF and LEVI is well known as an employer that celebrates diversity and equality among their employees. Now, if only the fine people of western PA can learn to welcome diversity into their area.
This commercial is depressing as hell. I remember Braddock, McKeesport, and the other mill towns from their glory days, and to see how run down we let things become makes me sick.
I met John back before he became Mayor. He is a GREAT GUY! He is the real deal! He loves that region so much. God Bless him for the work he's been doing ever since!!!
John Fetterman is an idiot. His solution to every problem is to stand there with his hand out until the federal government fulfills his every wish. That's not how it works stupid. Maybe if you had gotten your town off the government teat we'd still have UPMC here. I hope this thug gets booted in the next election. He is poison to the American dream. Fitting that a company who's production has been forced out of the country by hight taxes should endorse such a waste.
@leech77 He won by 1 vote. Because of him.., they have community gardens, play grounds, murders have gone down, and people feel safer on the street. Because of him, this town is once again on the map and getting attention. What have you been doing?! Is EVERYTHING you buy US Made? Your car and the parts in it. Your house, the clothes on your back, the food in your fridge and cupboards. When YOU find a passion and selfless dedication that drives you like Fetterman has... then maybe you can speak.
It's not taxes, it's cheap labor. America is a country that expects a lot higher wages then people from other nations. I say we help work on developing those nations, and by then the global economy will improve and jobs can come back to the US.
@SpartQ77 What are you talking about? Wages in the US have stagnated for well over 50 years, if anything, wages in the US don't keep up with the cost of living. As for "helping other nations develop," that was the excuse behind NAFTA and well, just look at how Mexico's doing now.
This ad is a pretty shameless rip-off of Terrence Malick's The New World, and it takes a little from David Gordon-Green's George Washington (itself indebted to Malick) for good measure.
True, but we have the poor economic and political decisions of US politicians to thank for that, not the company. Taxes, tariffs, and the like make the success of entrepreneurs here almost impossible. The people are being screwed by the government, not Levis.
@zildjianbronze well, I think it's a combo of politics and Levi's. Taxes n stuff play a part, but I think greed does as well hence the outsourcing of labor.
@jkonu2 Idk man, I've done a little research on the outsourcing of labor and I've come to the conclusion that if any company that outsourced labor truly wanted to bring productions home to the USA, they could. However this would dramatically cut profits. I'm not sure who crafted the phrase, "Think globally, buy locally;" but they were onto somethin...
@tman916x because govt wont let it be like the beatles said but 4 real i dont think corporate america should scam ppl or abuse them but they shouldnt be taxed outta there ass and since they do they go else where afterall big companies like levi employ ppl

I my jeans online. They're 100% union made in the USA jeans and are better better quality than the jeans in the commercial.
The only way to build a new frontier in this country is to buy American made products and elect officials who support domestic manufacturing.
rosiechanel 1 year ago
@rosiechanel I doubt they are better than Levis, by a longshot.

It's not taxes, it's cheap labor. America is a country that expects a lot higher wages then people from other nations. I say we help work on developing those nations, and by then the global economy will improve and jobs can come back to the US.
SpartQ77 1 year ago
@SpartQ77 What are you talking about? Wages in the US have stagnated for well over 50 years, if anything, wages in the US don't keep up with the cost of living. As for "helping other nations develop," that was the excuse behind NAFTA and well, just look at how Mexico's doing now.

How's about we go forth and carry out a Revolution? There won't be work as long as manufacturing jobs, like Levi's, keep going oveseas.

My Sisters and brother are in this commercial lol

This ad is a pretty shameless rip-off of Terrence Malick's The New World, and it takes a little from David Gordon-Green's George Washington (itself indebted to Malick) for good measure.

Levis has step up the commerical and rode this slogan " go forth"
supertmac2002 1 year ago
dude levi's can start going forth to work by bringing their production back to the U.S.

@tman916x Levis is full of $hit

@tman916x
True, but we have the poor economic and political decisions of US politicians to thank for that, not the company. Taxes, tariffs, and the like make the success of entrepreneurs here almost impossible. The people are being screwed by the government, not Levis.
zildjianbronze 1 year ago
@zildjianbronze well, I think it's a combo of politics and Levi's. Taxes n stuff play a part, but I think greed does as well hence the outsourcing of labor.
tman916x 1 year ago
@zildjianbronze that's bogus. Plenty of companies still produce things here.

Yeah, I agree. I guess you can't take either extreme position.

jkonu2 1 year ago
@jkonu2 Idk man, I've done a little research on the outsourcing of labor and I've come to the conclusion that if any company that outsourced labor truly wanted to bring productions home to the USA, they could. However this would dramatically cut profits. I'm not sure who crafted the phrase, "Think globally, buy locally;" but they were onto somethin...
tman916x 1 year ago
@tman916x because govt wont let it be like the beatles said but 4 real i dont think corporate america should scam ppl or abuse them but they shouldnt be taxed outta there ass and since they do they go else where afterall big companies like levi employ ppl
