@ugmodude were is the love button for this comment ? Lol i loled hard core cause i never realised it because i never relised it till you said something LMAO!!!
"Ribbon of Darkness" was written by Gordon Lightfoot. In 1965 it became Marty Robbins' eleventh 11th #1 on the U.S. country singles chart. Connie Smith also recorded it and it went to #13 on the country charts. Crystal Gayle performed "Ribbon of Darkness" on her first television appearance.
@juds2u If you could count the days ,hours and minutes passed since we heard this you'd know. But thank G-D you were able to live in a time when music for the everyday person could be purchased in a record shop.
I was fortunate enough to see Gordon many times when he was in the Chicago area. Even won tickets to his show by answering the question "what is Gordon's favorite past time. I also won an autographed album which I treasure today. I saw him on sound stage for the first time and fell in love with him and his music.
I think it was because Gordon isn't famous for his guitar pickin, but more for his great songwriting abilities. He once made the guiness book for being the one to pay the most alimony. $40,000 a month.
The man is simply unbelievable !!! His talent and music transcends time and generations ! What he has given to his fans cannot be mesured, and he very much deserves our appreciation and love. I wish him nothing but continuing succes !!
This is awesome. I've been a great fan of Lightfoot's since my Canadian aunt introduced me to his music in the seventies. I have been able to collect all of his albums.
It is a big wish of mine to attend a concert of his, preferably in Canada. (I am from The Netherlands.)
They don't come any better than his two albums of "Sit Down Young Stranger" and "If You Could Read My Mind..." thanks for this fantastic footage. i loved the guy then, and i love him still...
That was actually the same album. It was originally titled "Sit Down Young Stranger", but when the song "If You Could Read My Mind" became a hit, the album was renamed after that song.
Big wolf whistle -- (if I could)!! He's one of the best singer/songwriter's ever and needs more accolades (and more recognition) for it. love you Gordon!!!
Thank you so much for posting the vids of Gord on the Johnny Cash show! I always hoped these two gargantuan talents occupied the same stage. Now I know, and it makes me very happy.
Marty Robbins made a very good cover of this, but this live clip is the best I've ever heard! That a man, a 12 string, offstage bass, and percussion could sound this good today!! Or that someone could write such a song.
A living icon
