Schubert sounding perfectly straight, like something between Stravinsky and Richard Strauss here - proving that he was so incredibly gifted in creating various moods and tempers. Absolutely stunning.
Great version but I recommend you listen at the one performed by Emerson String Quartet too. Its PURE MAGIC. T'is a pitty that it's not on youtube...
Besides, this piece is a colossal rendition to pure and streamlined beauty, streamlined not meaning superficial. This music ascends from the most profound and human love right up to the most divine and universal of expressions. Definately one of my favourite string quartets ever.
Thank you Schubert for this so precious gift to humanity.
@rustydog1236--- It certainly is. Amazon has it. About $13 with shipping from one of their vendors, Movie Mars. I have ordered online from them before and they are straight. Just search --- death and the maiden dvd
Best recording ever! - (maybe also Melos ;-) ...great...great...music. Sublime and heavenly. Should be heard over and over again, and heard for what it is, and how Schubert intended for it to be.
P.S.Polanksi: you vile cocksucker scum - you may be forgiven for having sex with a minor girl who was sexually ripe...but you will NEVER be forgiven for how little respect you showed Schubert in your movie - may you rot in hell!
I added 1-6 to Queue and toggled "Turn autoplay on", listening to this while I read the play "Death and the Maiden" by Ariel Dorfman. 2 brilliant pieces of work, 2 brilliant authors. Do the same and give 2 thumbs up!
I play violin and my orchestra conductor announced last week that the whole string section is going to be playing a modified version of this. I practically squealed with excitement. This has always been my favorite string piece and I'm excited to play it. Although I'm sure it won't sound nearly as good as these guys =]
Thank you very much for posting this. This is a very thoughtful interpretation of the quartet - not to mention brilliantly executed by one of the best quartets the musical world has had the privilege to know.

Don't feel bad, I can't draw but I play four instruments , I don't have neat writing but I write poetry. Its a way of life , your not average , you have your joys and your talents as equal to everyone. =D
premiered on february 1st, 1826, 2 years before the early author's death, considered the best quartet out of the 14 Schubert wrote, with a general pesimistic tone, perhaps due to the fact he was already ill at the time
yes it is normal to put that stand so low. They do it so that they can all see one another and follow one another perfectly, hence a perfect quartet that plays as one. ahhh beautiful!
