I love this song and its delivery which is as deeply moving as it is beautiful. The Celts lived by honour and truth, our women wild and free, our men by fearless courage and gentle strength. Civilisation cannot truly be measured by its technology or battle prowess but only by a peoples heart. Boudicca, for a time, was that beating heart.
Merci... Boudicca is my Heroine of the Iceni the Spirit of Britain for all Eternity. This made me weep tears for Boudicca was my Heroine from my childhood. ❤ L.
warlordexpert: the celts were not more advanced than the Romans, there society revolved around violence and physical domenance"
The Romans epitimized violence and brutality. They were conquorers--murderers, rapists, and thieves on the grandest scale. This statement is absurd on its face...
warlordexpert: "She lead her people to there doom where they could have just accepted roman rule and enjoyed the prosperity roman order brought to Britain"
Yes, and the world could have surrendered to the Nazis and avoided a lot of headaches too.
In point of fact, the Iceni were allied to the Romans and only revolted after they had been horribly abused by them--As Roman will do...
Look, It's not to do with surrendring in every scenario to induce greater prosperity. It wouldn't have helped britain to surrender to germany because there societys were already well established, where as boudiccas peoples societys where primative and cruel.
HEY! Primitive and cruel? By what standard, the Roman one? The Celts were FAR more advanced than the Roman chroniclers (like Caser) let on. They were not dumb brutes, in MANY ways they were far more advanced than the Romans were, especially socially. It was the Romans who were primitive and cruel in this scenario, friend.
The Celts were the first great road builders, NOT the Romans. Celtic metallurgy was much more advanced, as was their art.
the celts were not more advanced than the Romans, there society revolved around violence and physical domenance, there systems of government often crude or purely monastic, there art was by no means more advanced, take examples from pompeii which was buried only 2 decades after boudiccas rebellion, the fine examples of art and lavish frescos clearly shows the intricassy of roman art in both its ability to represent characters and events as well as the use of artistic patterns.
I would like to contest also your comments about metallurgy, take the greeks with there metal sculptors like Phidias and Silanion who produced many fantastic peices of art that capture a flair that no other peice of celtic art does, while simultaniosly making the gunderstrup couldron look like a mere chamber pot.
In case your wondering what these greek artists have to do with rome is that romes academic elite were educated in Greece which was then part of the empire.
Well, too bring an archaeological perspective the celts where indeed technologically more advanced in some areas. One that even the romans sometimes admitted was their iron and steel technology.
But old roman words are one thing, the archaeological traces gives a more unbiased picture and it has been shown that the celts where ahead in both weapon production, making use of mixed grades of iron to get stronger blades, and even producing steel. Their helmets where infact copied by the romans.
I wish I had the funds to rent a medieval cathedral for the vocal recording. It sounds so good just like this, I can only imagine what it would sound like in a natural reverb.
What an amazing song and voice you have. It's one thing to have a beautiful voice, but to have a voice with lots of feeling behind it is the key.....this is a haunting piece. I really enjoyed the listen. :)
ahhh burning sage lavender and thyme gorgeous evokes rustic ancient folk memories of caravans woodfires elves and tinsel. You gotz the unique english witchy and amazing sound stick with it.If you meditate on holy and blessed things the music will fall out the cosmic ether.Go girl xxxx
Yo im outta norfolk where the iceni came from and we all say Iceni like in the song plus who cares its a fantastic song.Girl got the fully fat stamp of Iceni approval.
I,m afraid your missing the point of what boudicca represents.Yes technically it was a bad military decision to take on rome but that could be said of churchills decision.Plus the romans didnt enslave us as they had commonly done so to other peoples they,d conquered maybe thanks to the iceni drawing the line.
Look, at the battle of wattling street Boudicca had a force of 60,000 fighting infantry at least, with a baggage train of thousands, The romans charged through the britons pushing them together killing tens of thousands of Boudiccas so called army. She lead her people to there doom where they could have just accepted roman rule and enjoyed the prosperity roman order brought to Britain, these characteristics are hardly admirable.
The romans didn't charge the Iceni. Other way around. For being an expert on warlords you don't have your facts right. Romans rarely "charged" anywhere. It was the celtic way of warfare to charge en masse, the battle then degenerating into a series of one on one battles between warriors. The Romans linked shields, hunkered down, broke the charge of the Iceni, then walked over them. Such is the way of the Roman Legions.
Romans charge all the time you idiot, they through pila at about 40 ft from the enemy then draw there swords, they use there shields to batter there enemy on impact, thus a charge ;)
Though Romans did make use of the the "Charge", in this instance the only charging done was by cavalry, at the wings. The infantry threw, note the proper spelling of the word, their pila at the advancing brits. Then they advanced into a multiwedge front formation and butchered them at close combat. They then slowly advanced, grinding their enemies to a pulp. Which is what I said the first time. Break disorganized enemy charge, formation advance. Worked time and time again.
Oh and by the way, dont try and compensate for the fact that your historically ignorant by trumping up a few spelling errors, people like me have to spend alot of time correcting imbeciles like you and dont allways have time to spell check. ;)
Look, I gave you a fair chance but now you've decided this is what you want, here is where you went wrong -
You say the only charging was done by cavalry, plainly untrue, the cavalry charged down the wings at the same time the infantry charged in a simultaneos manouvre, they formed wedges and charged the celts down the hill pushing them up against each other making use of there small stabbing swords.
The romans didn't slowly advance, there is no rgument for a tactical slow advance they are not trying to win a gritty slow battle, there trying to cause a route!
Wow. I am so impressed with this, I really am. This is right up there with Heather Dale and Mercedes Lackey for me. Wonderful lyrics, gorgeous voice! Lovely song!

Holly, the day is quite done, but it was immensely worthwhile for I knew your new creation. To say this is stunning is to reinforce what others have done, yet, I do it. It is not the right place to, but I'll risk it. Try to read the book How the Irish Saved Civilization, by Thomas Cahill. You shall see why. Easy reading from the first to the last page, save for the trouble of Celtic words. Girl, I say it anew: you have stuff. God bless you and family.
I'm adicted to your music! Do you have a CD recorded? I'd love to purchase! If not---Girl Friend---Get a recording label to sign you! Your quite a talent!
Thanks for the entertainment!
My two favoites of yours are the Iceni Queen and Topsy Turvy World.
This is such a moving song, the music and lyrics work so well together I literally haven't been able to stop listening to it since I first found it! It makes me lament all the things that we have lost as a nation since the invasion of the Romans all those years ago, our way of life, our connection to nature, our religion. Like I say, very moving.
I totally agree with everything you say, and am so happy there are others out there that feel like me. If i could have one wish, it would be to have the chance to stand beside her in that final stand.
Fantastic. Just imagine what type of Nation England could have become had Boudica beaten back the Romans. Our history would have been very different indeed. If only we had been led by our own blood instead of god knows what from ancient Babylon...
Hi there! You do indeed have a lovely voice. I recently started singing classes now that I have the money and..I wanted to ask a question that you may find..to much to ask. I was wondering if it would be possible to work out a way for me to get a hold of the sheet music for this song. I want to sing it for my semi-final, with your permission. Please?
I loved Enya's music from when I was quite young and anything with a celtic feel. Then when I met the brilliant Rob(jugnutgut)on YT he wrote lyrics for me that he thought would suit my style :-)
Do you have a 'proper' recording of the song? Would love to have it on my mp3.
Also, just like to add that the song would turn out better, more haunting and the message/story behind it more powerful if the words were sung more clearly, cos I felt you were mumbling quite a bit and I missed quite a good words -which takes the whole song down- and had to read the lyrics to understand what the song's saying.
Or is it just the mike?
But really, got a recording of it? It's a real good song. Bravo
The lyrics are simple, not exactly one of those really poetic-quality sorta lyrics that hit the spot, but there's good storytelling in them. *sorry, I'm just a big appreciator of lyrics and I can get picky* The lyrics flow well with the story; am amazed by how 1 song can deliver Boudica's legend.
I am pleased that you like the lyrics. They were written by Rob (jugnutgut) who is great at telling stories in songs, as well as writing lyrics in general. Have a look at Claddagh Ring, that is a similar type of song to this one.
This such a great song - absolutely love the lyrics and accompaniment. Its gonna be stuck in my head for ages now! - will probably end up singing it out loud somewhere! Hope you make more like it,
The words are brilliant aren't they! Rob.(jugnutgut) is amazing with his lyrics! He tells lovely stories. I love Claddagh Ring too which he also wrote.
this is so beyond beautiful it has practically brought me to tears... Are you singing and palying the piano simultaniuosly? hmmm... Loreena McKennitt also does that ;)
Beautiful. You have a fantastic voice and I love the storyline. 5* and another favorite. Hmmm...this seems to be becoming a habit. Good thing there is no limit on favorites.
Sorry lads but is it just me or are the words absolute shite. Nice voice and melody but the words...you wanna represent Celts then please at least try to come up with lyrics like them. This is a bit of a say what you see song. Sorry to be harsh but do a bit more than she wore a golden necklace!
Absolutely Beautiful. You have a very lovely voice. I'm Irish so this sounds light heaven to me , Thank You . May God forever shine sunshine upon the paths you may walk in this life.
I was looking for an automated way to give 5* to all your vidz haha, you're so good i prefer listening than moving my mouse to click ;) But i didn't find :S Is this a real story, i can't remind any iceni ? might need some history class by Rob ^^ ooh can you hear my applause ?? 5*

This is such a moving song, the music and lyrics work so well together I literally haven't been able to stop listening to it since I first found it! It makes me lament all the things that we have lost as a nation since the invasion of the Romans all those years ago, our way of life, our connection to nature, our religion. Like I say, very moving.

If you had said this was a 500 year old English folk song handed down generation by generation of singers I would believe you. It's that good.
Your voice is a rare treat. You could sing a page out of a phone book and it would be the most hauntingly beautiful song.
Thanks for posting this. I do love your music.

Bravo
trojanmemory 3 years ago
Beautiful haunting song.
The lyrics are simple, not exactly one of those really poetic-quality sorta lyrics that hit the spot, but there's good storytelling in them. *sorry, I'm just a big appreciator of lyrics and I can get picky* The lyrics flow well with the story; am amazed by how 1 song can deliver Boudica's legend.
trojanmemory 3 years ago
Hi trojanmemory :-)
Thankyou for both your comments.
I am pleased that you like the lyrics. They were written by Rob (jugnutgut) who is great at telling stories in songs, as well as writing lyrics in general. Have a look at Claddagh Ring, that is a similar type of song to this one.
