According to Amendment 12 of the U.S. Constitution, electors are to hold separate votes for candidates for president and vice president, as opposed to presidential candidates choosing a "running mate." So, why aren't we following this? Allowing a presidential candidate to select a running mate gives that person power not conferred on him/her by the Constitution.
