what a perfect composition. I like the Quincy Jones Version especially for the incredible Take 6 vocals, too, but to hear the original is a very special delight: to see that the substance of this song has always been so great. For anyone who is wondering if Brazilians typically get married in September, and feature this song at their wedding, I remember seeing Lins in concert, and before he performed this song, he introduced it by saying that he'd written it for a friend whose wedding had been set for September. I agree that this version is much more pensive (a feeling of Brazilian "saudade" more prevalent) while Q's version was much more celebratory.

In either case, Lins is one of my absolute favorite musicians. =)

Excellent tune. Lins is one of the great modern song composers, without question. Quincy essentially copied this but with Take 6's multiple voices.

Quincy Jones is an excellent producer and yes, he is an institution and everything, but frankly, he is not a musical genius like Ivan Lins. Quincy's talent is tapping and coordinating the talents of the people he gathers around him. Ivan does not really need others, all he needs to spread magic is a keyboard and a microphone.

After having listened to both versions a couple of times now, I think this version is more touching than the cover version, it conveys the special Brazilian feeling. Sure, the audio quality was not as advanced back then, but musically I prefer it. There is also something solemn in it, which kind of expresses the meaning of getting married, a once-in-a-lifetime decision, in theory at least ^^

No, they don't use this song here in Brazil for weddings. We use that traditional song "Wedding March" by Felix Mendelssohn, but we can use whatever song you like.Not necessary September by Ivan Lins.
