In all fairness, The Cure's entire sound was heavily influenced by Joy Division, so to say that New Order "copied" The Cure would be like saying a father "copied" the facial features of his son.
i love this too, and also love the cure, i love the way the cure did the walk and sounded like blue monday so why not new order try and nick just like heaven bassline
Given the number of New Order / Joy Division songs "co-opted" by the Cure (sometimes probably unintentionally) I think they can be forgiven for getting one back, i.e. In Between Days = Dreams Never End, The Walk = Blue Monday, New Day = New Dawn Fades. Obviously the two bands influenced each other a lot, and since they don't seem to care about the other borrowing the occasional bass line or drum pattern I don't see why I should.
Having a similar bassline and drum pattern doesn't make a cover. Come on people, that's really basic stuff if you think about music in general. I like both - this one and Just like Heaven - but for me, this one has more original lyrics and better melodies.
Although the groups sound similar, this is in no way a rip-off of Just Like Heaven considering Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me came out a couple of years BEFORE Technique.
So how do just like heaven and all the way sound the same? There not ,not even the same tempo. These are two of the greatist bands alternative music has had. lets leave it at that. PEOPLE.
Seems to me that I only like a hand full of songs by the Cure (they made a lot of crap songs) BUT New Order on the other hand, seems like I like ALL OF THEIR SONGS. New Order is the greatest band of all time!
The fact is Hooky was annoyed when he heard similar bass and sound on "In Between Days" by the Cure than New order song "Dreams never End", that's why he plays bass like "Just Like Heaven" here
"it takes years to find the nerve to be apart from what you've done to find the truth inside yourself and not depend on anyone". this is the same chord structure as 'just like heaven' but down one whole note.
@ask123321 this song "All The Way" (new order) does not sound exactly like JUST LIKE HEAVEN , it is just similar. But it also has other sounds on guitar, listen carefully
@ffm20zaheri Wait a minute, you call Depeche Mode a modern rock band?!? First of all, that band is almost as old as New Order. Second, it is hardly rock when they only have one guitarist who plays background guitar.
@ffm20zaheri this song "All The Way" (new order) does not sound exactly like JUST LIKE HEAVEN , it is just similar. But it also has other sounds on guitar, listen carefully
@ffm20zaheri A lot of songs use this same chord progression. Modern English's "I Melt With You" is another song that sounds similar to "Just Like Heaven" or "All the Way." There are countless others, especially amongst '80s alternative/indie bands.
Don´t be naive, too....lots of rock´n´roll IS similar now and then + has similar musical patterns and riffs, same is even the case for classical music or folk songs.
I often admire musicians for well.done "covers"(though there are also "artists" like the Fugees - who made such an own deliberate horror of classic soul/R&B stuff that the NME wrote to the Wycleaf Jean + his clumsy "unmusical" gang:
"Stop it, you´re ripping off people with more talent than you will ever posess"
I remember an interview with Peter Hook in which he admited they take the bass from Just Like Heaven, but he also said that his mother cried after having listening a The Cure's songs because it was a shame how this band sounded like her son's band, which is so true. The Cure made a very bad ripp-off of Blue Monday with their song The Walk for exemple.
@powerdsister Im not one of those idiots that listens to poppy crap, coldplay has done some good things in the past. Also the Cure and New Order are different bands. i like both of them very much so Fuck you

Sorry, but I think there is enough more then enough disparity between Just Like Heaven and this NO track....not that it matters, as previous peeps have already pointed out.
actually bernard sumner bragged about how he ripped off just like heaven to make this track. new order & the cure have always been ripping off each other's song & taking the piss out of each other. it's all very friendly really. lol.
good point!. :) the cure and new order have gained a lot of comparisons in their careers and there's nothing wrong with that. both brilliant songs, both amazing bands!
but JLH has better lyrics...

My favorite bassists (post-punk only):
3) Robert Smith with his Bass VI solos_Amen!
2) Steven Severin (Banshees)
1) Peter Hook - Hooky ALL THE WAY!
By the way: New Order are way cooler and more relevant than theCURE will ever be.

new order felt that the cure were ripping them off as well as joy division so this song is kinda like an ironic middle finger to the cure.

Hey,take it easy man.You need to slow down.
With all due respect to New Order,The Cure are my favorite band.
They actually had lots of good tracks.
Besides in a lot of ways they were darker and more morose in their sound.
Very independently original styles.
Great music either way.
