The AOL Acoustic version is actually is open C, the way they play it. Check it out, you can tell they play the song differently because theyre in open C

Hey man, I just learned the song but am having trouble with fitting the strums into the lyrics. The D UDUP UDUD pattern works but it seems that when you play 2 times of it it rings to long for the lyrics... the song drags on and gets offbeat. this is abosolutely in open d tuning, not drop d. Drop d is where you drop the base note to a D instead of and E. Open d tuning is DADF#AD

thanks for this video. and it was easy to follow. but i think it's just 1 measure for basically the whole song. b/c if you play it along with the song, by the time you're done the second measure of the open strings you should be going to the 5th fret already. see if it's right. thanks again.

Low E drop to a D is two flats

A stays the same

D stays the same

G drop to a F# is 3 flats

B drop down to a D is 2 flats

high e drop down to a D is 2 falts also.

tune 6th string to 4th string

tune 1st string to 4th string

tune 2nd string to 5th string

place finger on forth fret 4th string and tune that note to your 3rd string = open D tuning

then back up, so it tightens it

well no matter how much you turn the tuning knob, it won't ever get any tighter, the tension in the string is what causes that D note, if it were any tighter it approaches an Eb
