It is not bad for an "Old timer" the D2H ...It was good in its day...BUT Time and tide waits for no man! DO NOT forget you are buying tecnology when you buy a camera now...Like all technology it goes out of date very quick. If you must buy an "Old pro" camera pay the bit extra and get the Nikon D2X.
can you use this as an all purpose DSLR ?? As in stills, panoramic, lanscapes, and such?..Relatively new to DSLR's, but I don't want to start with an entry DSLR and then upgrade to a Pro model later...I'll deal with the learning curve...
As with any camera you will have to make adjustments in the computer to get the best out of your images... thats just the way it goes. This is a great sports and photojournalism camera but not much else anymore
i wana get a d2h because i love how fast it is, however the megapixels worry me and if i wana blow up a picture does it mess it up? is the D2h a good camera to get, how is the quality? (would i have to touch up pictures to enhance the quality?) lotta questions lol sorry
I was about an hour away from getting a D2H for $250 off craigslist, but got sold. But i was wandering if a d1x is an upgrade from a d40 for sports photography? because i found one for sale
I wouldn't consider picking up a D1X. With the new cameras Nikon is releasing it would hinder you more than help. Consider a D90. They'll be dropping in price soon and used ones are always available.
srvwannabe, why do you think it has a limited lifespan left? I've got one of these; it's got over 386,000 shutter actuations on it and it's still going strong. Yours doesn't look like it's been abused as badly as mine has, too. ;)
Would this make a good camera for a college student participating in student press and some studio work? I have an entry level DSLR and the ergonomics and features are making my life difficult.
Definitely. I love everything about this camera. The resolution is low when you compare it to today's cameras but it is still high enough to get amazing 20x30 inch prints
@bfung4 I've had no problems blowing up pictures shot with the D2H. I've even made a 24"x36" from one of my baseball pictures. (Not the greatest in terms of clarity but acceptable) Every time I go shoot I do have the fear that I'll capture a picture with the D2H that I'll want blown up super large and might not be able to do it with the 4MP resolution.
most replies here are from those who have shit brains when it comes to the big old "pixel" count rate. Its one of the best PRO DSLR ever made. Even with 4.1 have you seen the quality of a large print ? they are one of the best press cameras ever. I have done 3 B&W portrait prints taken at 400iso and they are printed A3 and look fantastic
DO NOT JUDGE A CAMERA BY SILLY NUMBERS ON THE FRONT.
we dear friends..stay quite...You're not a fucking teacher..I well know that mp are not important...but i think this is the camera only for a sport photographer.
And anywhere this is my opinion, I don't mind if you're not according to me, but you can't say that I don't know what photography mean.. You don't know anything about me and about my feeling with photography. Stop say bullshit.
I caught on eventually (luckily before I'd shipped the camera =P) I'd never encountered anything like it before so I didn't know they were trying to scam me. The first couple emails from the person were very well written with proper spelling and sentence structure. As we kept talking though, the person seemed to get more and more frustrated and the emails got very sloppy. It was definitely a learning experience.
I have about $500 to spend. I found a Nikon d2h in my area on Craigslist. Do you think I should try that camera or a new camera in my price range? I was thinking a new camera on short money may not be the best route.
@MrBazzat11 I wouldn't get a D2X at this point in time. The D300s is far superior in almost every aspect and is right around the same price. The D2H is a highly specialized camera with a limited lifespan remaining but is still a great camera. Anyone who wishes to comment on the D2H should own one first so they can see how good of a camera it really is.
I'd like to know how the D2Hs compares to the varieties of modern Nikons... such as the D300, D300s, and D90.
hi-ISO performance is an issue of particular interest.
There is a mint D2Hs on ebay right now for $1,000...under 6000 actuations. I have always wanted one of these, but alas... time has passed and there are new things out there.
So how does it really compare in image quality to the newer $1,500 and under Nikons?
As for Camera OCD, I've kinda got that - the fact that the rubber grips are beginning to come off my camera is unavoidable (and not cheap to repair I guess) but little things like smudges on the screen and top screen drive me nuts.
Horrible nose-prints on my rear screen are the worst :P.
What's your price range because the D300 with grip is around 1500 if you find a good deal. But that is what it realy comes down to is what is your price range.
whould you recomend the d300 or d2h cuz i mainly shoot skateboading. but u can get a bat grip for the d300 giveing it 8fps. whats your opinion? cuz im soon gonna upgrade from nikon d60
get a d2h its cheaper and you wont have to buy a battery grip. i shoot skateboarding too and im upgrading from a d40. dont worry about that 4.1 megapixels. thats just a fancy way to get people to buy cameras.
sk8monkey300, I'm replacing my D40 with an older camera probably as well. :P A D1h. I did a side by side review of the D1h, D2h, and D40, and there's almost no changes at all in any of the specs.
ya i had the same thing happen to me but she was really detailed i was selling a computer and she was like i will include 200 exstra thrue paypal to ship it to africa for here daughter that is in colleage and really wants a computer?
Sorry but one more question. I've been looking and can't seem to find one under 600 (keh) and was wondering if you knew any other places. Thanks again!
The battery life is fantastic. One will get you 700+ shots if you keep the use of the LCD down to a minimum. The camera can handle 8fps with no reduction in quality at all. I got mine through a trade on craigslist. You can try there or ebay. There are deals springing up all the time. You just gotta wait until that perfect deal presents ifself then jump on it
Hello just a quick question. I'm going to be in the 10th grade next school year and I will be the photographer editor. We mainly take photos of the school sports and events. Right now I have a nikon d50 and like it. But it seams to be limiting me with it's slow fps and lack of options and ISO controll. So would this camera provide what I need? Also how is the battery life? I guess the d1 could only take 200 files where my D50 can do around 700-800
Its an amazing camera but the applications its meant for. It is designed for photojournalism, sports, and news work. If you do any of those things then yes this camera is definitely worth the price.
I've been considering getting a second body. (I'm currently using a D40x.)
I found a reasonably priced D1, and started looking around for reviews. I happened upon your D1x review in the process.
I just had one question. When you have the portrait shutter release turned on, can you use the landscape shutter release? Or do you have to be certain to turn the portrait shutter release off?
The vertical shutter release button is used in addition to the primary release. The activation of the vertical one does not turn off the primary. So they can both be used interchangeably quite quickly
4mp but the quality producing images are absolutely amazing ! I have the D300 though ! But this camera makes me wana trade mine to go with D3x
